People are going to hate them regardless, because nerd culture is weird. Like how people think that was a bad movie, because old Star Trek looked different. But upvotes for Jar Jar Abrams, that's funny as hell.
I would have liked Into Darkness better if, A) They didn't take an Indian character and whitewash it with Benedict Cucumberface B) It played more off the strengths of the first movie C) If it didn't resolve every situation with some kind of violent action sequence, because even though I was never a Star Trek fan, I know that a big part of what makes the series what it is is how it treats violence as something of a last resort and the Federation's kind of about forging peace and understanding with different cultures, not Michael Baying every conflict. D) The giant gaping fucking plothole where Kirk needs Khan's blood to survive getting pwn'd by radiation and they go on this big fucking chase to bring him in alive when there's literally dozens of torpedoes with people with the SAME FUCKING PROPERTIES as Khan sitting in the cargo hold. Other than that, it was enjoyable, if pretty forgettable. It was the Quantum of Solace to Casino Royale, if you will. But yeah, I think JJ Abrams pretty much was making Star Wars movies with a Star Trek coat of paint. If he did something similar with the new trilogy and was respectful to the original material, I think it'll be something I'll enjoy a lot.
