Well this here is the same universe, but right here and right now. Backstory: Exploration beyond the Galactic Republic's reach has gone further and further, and they've reached Earth, and discovered Force potential in the Humans who lived there. Unfortunately for everyone involved, it was the Sith who made this discovery. The Sith have come back, as they always seem to do, in a big way. The Rule of Two has been discarded yet again, and the Sith have a veritable army of Acolytes, ruled by a small group of Lords. The Sith entered the Sol System with just one Frigate with an expeditionary force. They made first contact under a false banner of peace, but quickly showed their true colors as they started snatching up children, and occasional adults, in whom they sense the potential for the Force. The Frigate retreated for a time, further from Earth than humanity could reach with its paltry technology. Earth united, attempting to find a recourse for retaliation, however none seemed practical. Their salvation came in two parts. The first, was Cameron Ortega. A soldier who was among the few adults captured. He was subjected to the same torture that passes for training among the Sith. But what was different was his previous training with the US Army, which had taught him to withstand interrogation in the event of capture. He put on a show, pretended to be molded in their twisted image. Until he got a premonition that told him it was time to make his move. He stole a starfighter and fled back to Earth, managing to land through stealth. He returned to his superiors and reported everything that had happened. The UN used Ortega's knowledge of the Force to gather other Force-Sensitives from among the armed forces of the world, and set up the Sith Task Force, or STF. The second part of Earth's salvation, was the Jedi Order. They followed a great distance behind the Sith, and when their advance spies finally got word back of what was happening, a second ship appeared in the Sol System, but this one truly meaning to help. So there are three factions.
The Jedi have come to Earth to assist against the Sith invasion. Unfortunately, because of the great distance between Sol and their home galaxy, reinforcements are slow in coming. The Jedi arrived in the system with Thirty Jedi Knights, only some of them having Apprentices. In the five years since their arrival, some of the Apprentices have been moved up to Knight. After some negotiation, the Jedi have been permitted to train young Human children in the ways of the Force. They are, however, not permitted to take them away, or to use them on missions. All training is done in special classes in schools. Unfortunately for the Jedi, the Sith have already ruined any trust and goodwill that the Humans might have had for aliens. Upon turning sixteen, however, it has been agreed that a Human can make the choice to permanently join the Jedi order.

Ranks go as such: Regent(title should be Prince, rather than anything else because) there would be multiple, but very few. I'm thinking ten. There is one present on the expedition. The title "Prince" replaces Darth. Lords The top rank, other than regent, obviously. Carry a "Darth" title. Apprentice. Chosen from among Acolytes by a Lord. A Lord almost always has only one apprentice, but there has been a history having having multiple in secret, usually for the purpose of tricky plots. Carry a "Darth" title. They stay apprentice until either they die, or their master does. If their master dies, they replace them. If they die, they are replaced. Acolyte: The Sith will try to turn almost any being with Force potential, and bring them into the fold as Acolytes. Acolytes have no title, and are subservient even to lowly apprentices.

The United Nations headed task force for Force sensitive humans. STF agents are issued lightsabers, made using design specs given by the Jedi, and colorless lab grown crystals. Earth does in fact have its own deposit of saber-quality crystals, and STF agents are allowed to carry and use any other lightsabers that they might build or scavenge. Though they wield traditional lightsabers, they also make use of automatic assault weapons, usually lightweight and optimized for high mobility. They do not have an apprentice system, as they function as a military outfit. They do, however, act in squads under a ranking officer. Unlike realistic military squads, where the members are interchangeable and are assembled before missions, STF squads are permanent, and are trained to intuit each others actions through the Force, and to act with minimal or no communication. A new member can't just join the squad at any time, they would have to go through the rigorous intuition training again, which is made more difficult for the new member because the rest of the squad have already defined their roles and don't need to communicate. The STF and the Jedi are in a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" sort of position. The STF and Earth's other militaries make up the largest part of the planet's defense against he Sith. The Jedi consider STF to be borderline Darkside, however galactic exploration law forbids them from actively influencing the ideology of newly discovered planets. That doesn't stop them from trying to teach their own doctrine when STF members and Jedi are on missions together.

Name: Age: The Sith and Jedi have any age(though Human Jedi must be sixteen), STF only accepts people age eighteen or older. Species: STF is all human, the other two, all species are fair game(unless you come up with one I think is unfair in some way). Faction: Rank:(Jedi have Padawan-Knight-Master and Sith have Acolyte-Lord. STF use normal human military ranks.STF have an automatic officer designation of Second Lieutenant or higher). Appearance: I love pictures, personally. Anything goes, however, as long as you describe your character in some way. I actually do not ask for bio or personality. Both can be expounded upon in character. Just don't over-use expositionary prose.
