A quick synopsis is this:  


So the series happens a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Well this here is the same universe, but right here and right now.

The Sith discover Earth and start collecting force sensitive humans.  The Jedi follow a while behind, but the people of Earth are suspicious of them for a time and Earth creates its own Force Sensitive group, rather than relying on the Jedi for protection.
