The Slayer was a Time Lord during the Time War with the Daleks and Time Lords. His family was murdered by Dalek extermination squads during the first wave of the war. Further complicating the matter was that he was accused of treason, and framed for the murder of his family. He discovered his lover, Adria was targeted by assassins who taunted him when he was in isolation. As a result he begged with all his strength to be let out of captivity, to no avail. No one ever found any traces of outside communication with him from the outside of his isolation. For even worse complications on the matter, he was mysteriously let out of his isolation, and given the opportunity to save his lover Adria if he reached her in a certain time period. 
By the time he reached his lover, she was being tortured by security forces. He killed them both, but she died, and he was discovered. He escaped and with the aid of his mentor, Ganner, he escaped the Time Lord's planet with his TARDIS and fooled sensors into detecting it as one of their own ships battling the Dalek fleet. Thanks to the emergency transmat, he escaped termination.
