A human butler, perhaps in his fifties, answered the door. "You must be the new servant," he said. He handed the keeper a check, took the rope. But he didn't pull on it as if she were an animal; he waited for her to follow. A young man came downstairs. "Who was--?" he stopped midsentence. "Oh, so he came, Niles?" "Indeed, sir," the butler replied. The young man frowned. "Take that collar off of her," he ordered. "She's not an animal, so she will not be treated like one."
