I had the same thoughts when I watched it last; you see a few instances of normal soldiers fighting alongside Witches (the Zeroes flown from the Akagi in the last few episodes of season 1 for example) but they tend to be redshirts killed off willynilly. It'd be interesting to see a few soldiers who [i]didn't[/i] die a few second after being introduced.
