Strange, you sure he did not say that 'he' was descended from the Alyeid or something? Cause that literally means 'first ones', and the modern day Altmer are the closes mer race to the Aldmer(in appearance, and probably gene, otherwise known as the unaltered descendants). Every other Mer who branched off came from Summerset Isles who came from Aldmeris. Heck their name pretty much says it all. Interesting.
