He saw Lute get knocked back by the cat, so he lowered the bow to repeat the process of reloading. It was a major downside of this weapon, a quick glance had proved that Lute had managed to stun the cat. What was his trick? Whatever it was, it appeared to be working, and it bought enough time for Dylan to reload. Then he heard Selan’s cry. Snapping his head up, he turned his head to see Estelle protecting Lute. “NO!” he cried as the wolf-man managed to slide his blade into Estelle’s shoulder. He braced his bow, ready to fire at the beast, when... “I’ve got this!” Estelle’s teeth clenched even tighter. “You… Dylan… Xan… handle the cat… I can… nggh…” Estelle’s eyes darted to Selan, and she smiled. “We’ve got this.” He hesitated for only split second, torn between helping his friend and following her orders, before he did what he felt in his gut was right. Estelle was strong. She could handle it. Lute, though, was cornered by the cat, and he could use a hand. Taking aim once more, he fired the crossbow. Unfortunately, switching targets like that was beyond Dylan’s skill. Instead of burying the bolt deep into the creature’s shoulder, it merely grazed the arm. Though blood leaked from the wound Dylan knew that it wouldn’t slow him down.
“Crap crap crap!” he cried, reaching for another bolt only to find himself out. “Xan, help!”
