Name: Abejidé Appearance: WIP Nicknames/Titles: Dé Age: 24 Gender: Male Allegiance: Himself and other now free slaves. Allegiance Faction: None Role: Captain Personality: Dé is a cold man, he has lived through it all and has seen his family and friends be killed in front of him. Despite this he is welcoming to other slaves and is always willing to listen to please of attacking plantations and slave ships. He is a realist and if he see’s something as totally impossible he is most likely to avoid it entirely. He believes all ‘White man’ are evil and that they all are power mad slave owners and so finds it very difficult to even show a white man any sort of respect. He uses his powerful and inspirational voice to good effect and this is no different even when he is not talking to a crowd. He enjoys the fact he can almost always intimidate people. Enhanced Ability: Dé has been known to raise his entire crew from slaves he freed or have freed themselves. This means he has a way of inspiring other slaves to fight and die for him with no questions. Furthermore he has the ability to convince other slaves that escaping their fate is always worthwhile, causing many a slave revolt/mutiny. Biography: Dé was born in a little village on the coast of Africa, modern day Ivory Coast. The village was called Humtah and it was all he knew. His people were a simple kind, content with their lot in life. Dé was a big child and a very good fighter and his father encouraged him to build up his muscles. His first job in the village was helping build home and buildings around the village. This helped build up his muscles as well as his training programme. When he was 12 he went out hunting with his father and caught himself a deer. For his first hunt it was impressive. After a few years he was a regular huntsmen and was bringing in some of the finest meats the village. When he was 16 his village was raided by a nearby warlord. Most of their cattle was killed, in a response Dé organised an attack in which they would steal back the cattle they had lost. It was a total success after Dé was able to take on a farm’s guards single handidly. He returned to his village a true man and was married too the village chiefs daughter. Life was very good for Dé. He found However all of that changed when the white man came. His village was burnt to the ground and every strong man was taken, bound and forced to watch their families killed before they were loaded onto a large dark ship to be sold at the markets in America. The journey was long and hard and Dé experienced beatings and suffered humiliation he could never forget however it made his resolve stronger. Around 3 quarters of the way through the journey Dé had become fast friends of the slaves he did not know and had found out that there was almost 10 times the number of slaves than there was crewmen. He decided that enough was enough, there would be no slavery for himself or his fellow slaves. One night during a routine inspection the slaves were able to grab one of the guards and break his neck. Stealing the keys they began to silently move through the ship killing guards and freeing more and more slaves until almost all of them were free below the decks. Then they waited, when another guard came down to check on those below deck the slaves made their move. Rushing from below they swarmed the ship, killing captors and sailors with their bare hands as well as the few cutlass’ they had stolen of the men they had already killed. Finally , when they had taken the ship, they came to the captains cabin. Dé himself took the man’s sword and sliced his head clean off before hanging it from the mast. The final part of the journey turned Dé from a slave to a freeman and, after a vote, captain of the ship. Deciding that the large lumbering vessal was not to his liking he decided that they would make port anywhere where they would not be immediately placed under lock and key again. A small port near Tortuga called ‘Sleepy Hollow’ was the ideal destination. Once docked Dé made contact with a white man he met in the tavern. The man would go with part of his crew to Tortuga and sell the ship. He would receive 5% of the money and use the rest too buy a faster more fitting ship for the purpose he had in mind. In the morning he watched the ship and 50 of his men sail away. Only a week and a half later a new ship returned with all 50 of his men as well as the white man he had sent. The white man, Edward Galls, was an experienced navigator and had been part of the Royal British Navy however a misunderstanding had left him dishonourably discharged and stuck in Sleepy Hollow. In exchange for a fair part of the loot he offered to be their navigator. Dé was suspicious but trusted the man. They soon became fast friends. The ship he returned with was a fine one. A used Frigate Dé christened ‘The Howler Monkey’, it had been in service for a number of years to the Spanish yet after a storm it was abandoned. A group of scavengers salvaged the ship and brought it to Tortuga for repairs. Now Edward had bought it along with a set of cannons and supplies needed. Dé now sails the carrebian, freeing slaves from their bonds and raiding plantations. Sleepy Hollow is now used as hi base and has turned from a ghost town into a very profitable port due to the sugar and tobacco he has stolen. However Dé does not see himself as a criminal, he is simply freeing those imprisoned and giving them what they have worked for. When his crew is full all the slaves are freed in Sleepy Hollow along with a share of the goods stolen when they were freed Likes: Freedom, rum, other slaves gambling and fairness. Dislikes: Slavers, those in authority, people telling him what to do and thise who assume he is a slave. Family: None that are left alive. They were butchered by a slavers company when they attacked his village. Weapons: 2 Large cutlasses, one from each of the slaver captains he has killed, so far. (He wants a lot more) A belt with 4 pistols on. The hunting knife he was given when he turned into a man. Miscellaneous: Very well built and tough however his seamanship needs improving and so he normally delegates jobs such as navigating to Edward.
