So he went after Lia's mom which turned him into a summoned, thus his demon book would have been dropped into the world and him trapped in Hell forever unless summoned by the book left for some naive human to pick up. That's where Maddie comes in, and it's only through her re-summoning him that he can get back on to Earth, one there she must remain alive for him to stay there and she is the only one who can send him back, but if he's made it to Earth he'd have full control of her will and thus her own ability to send him home will be cut out. So pretty much the moment he gets to Earth Maddie will be sentenced to death as for the greater good for the world xD
