That said here's a thought.

You mentioned Half-Elves "What if after centuries of breding there now is a race of Half-Elves who inter marry among their own kind?" 
Sure the other races say they aren't truly their own race but try and tell that to them.
They might have the extended life spans of their kind along with the human drive to succeed quickly at whatever task they assign themselves
