Warning

Before I begin, I'd like to warm everyone that this RPG is MATURE. This includes cussing (preferably limited), violence / battle, and suggestive themes (but no smut / descriptions of actual sexual acts).

So, here we are.

Co-GM'ed by @Regitnui

Everything changed. Forty years ago, everything changed.

Was it a government test? Alien experimentation? Random evolution?

I don't know. And no one else seems to either. But our city, once known as New York City, has never came close to returning to normal.

You live in Epic City, the new world that was NYC. Epic City is it's own country, with government and military forces from around the globe 'visiting'. The local police still work with the USA national guard on occasion.

Four decades ago people changed. And since then all born have been affected. Nearly a quarter of the population has super powers, and are aptly named Epics. These powers range from basic to weird. Flight, strength, speed, impregnable skin, and more exist like basic comics. But many more enter the realm of weird, such as precognition, transmutation, energy transference, and so many more.

So maybe you're a Hero, or a Neutral, trying to make it in the City.

But as they say, the City is whatever you want it to be.

So, a quick rundown....

All powers are open game. But I want you to discuss them with me. We'll hammer down the specifics.

Everyone with a power also has a special weakness. Maybe it's fake jewelry, gold, soy sauce, or something simple. Without a defensive power, you're still weak to Normie stuff like bullets, blades, blunt force, drowning, fire, etc etc. Power weaknesses are tied to your character somehow. Something from their past, a great fear, or something else. We'll figure those out together if needed.

Weaknesses negate your powers, and such are carefully guarded secrets (that you may or may not know yourself!) by both Heroes and Villains.

Speaking of He's and V's, you'll need to figure out where you'll fall on the spectrum when we get to character creation. We're running a basic Black / Gray / White spectrum, with gray being basically someone who does what they want for themselves without being abundantly evil, or who work outside of the law to protect the City (vigilante, basically). That's not exactly set in stone though, just a basic guide.

Please note, I won't be allowing villain characters, unless you can convince Reg and myself.

On Power Limits:
Most Epics have a single power with the more powerful having two or three. These powerful Epics generally have one offensive ability, a defensive ability, and a weaker defensive or offensive ability or a 'bonus' ability. So, speed with precognition and increased eyesight. The more powerful the Epic, the less complex their weakness.

Of course, this is just another baseline to start from. As you'll see in my NPCs, powers can always grow with time.

This is mostly a sandbox RP, but there will be plot points for y'all to interact with.

Please note, as well, that the City only resembles NYC in the layout and the occasional business or something. Most everything in the City has changed with it's populace in the last forty years.

I expect questions and everything, so bring 'em on.

@Old Amsterdam, this is why we talk first. You forgot Those on High!

Co-GM here. Let me give you a rundown of Epic City from the perspective of the common man:

- The city is ruled by extremely powerful Epics known as Those on High. Each of them are living WMDs, capable of wiping out cities. However, they confine their abilities to Epic City, where they operate in an uneasy but stable truce, defining their roles in the City. Each may have a Herald; a lesser Epic or mortal who acts in their stead; or an Heir; a lesser Epic of similar ability they're grooming as a replacement.

Each of Those on High have two weaknesses, one shared and the other unique, that would destroy them. Needless to say, these are closely guarded secrets.

- The High Prescient: An absolute mystery, but known to have incredible powers of precognition. Some suspect they have other time-related abilities. No known Herald or Heir.

- The High Clairvoyant: Capable of touching the minds of every being in Epic City, the High Clairvoyant is a powerful telepath. She's been known to completely shut down the brains of those who offend her. Current Herald: her husband, a British man named Porter.

- The High Electric: An energy-manipulator who once lit up the sky over EC like a second sun. He contents himself with maintaining the electrical grid of Epic City. His Herald is Hale, a normal man who runs the power utility.

- The High Island: A presence within the fabric of the city who maintains the structure of Epic City, rebuilding buildings, roads and even individual doors and windows almost as soon as they're broken. He has no Herald, though has been interested in electing one.

- The High Venom: A woman (most guess) with more or less complete control over biology, her own and others. She prevents major diseases and backs hospitals, and supports the "freaks", those whose powers mutate their bodies. However, she's also hardly shy about stealing beggars and the terminal as "test subjects". Prefers to have her "freaks" fight for her approval over picking one Herald.

Below that are the celebrity Epics; especially flashy or well-known Epics who are the target of most of the population's aspirations or admiration. This list includes Mr Mass and Lady Lust, two of the oldest heroes still operating, the 'bad boy' Dragon Heart, the armoured heroine Spectrum, and the "elemental wizard" Magus.

- Then we get the working-class Epics, those who put their powers to use in business or have some other focus in their life. These include the Judge Arthur "Fields" Savage, the white-hat thief Kat, and a man named Calico, who runs the black market.

Finally, the majority of the population is made up of weak Epics and "normal" people much like everyone in the real world. The ECPD Chief of Police, Jerry, the infamous gang leader Khan, the Mayor, and most NPCs will be in this category.

As for current power groups? The police and some Epics wage a low-level war against villainous Epics and the normal-supremacist gang known as the Kryptonites, after the famous weakness of an overpowered comic-book Epic.

@Old Amsterdam should have one. I have a previous version, but I'm not sure if it'd work. I'll post that for now and you can work off it for now, OK?

And here you go. :)

@HeroicSociopath

Sorry for the delay. My phone didn't want to cooperate.

The template Reg posted will work fine. Pictures are acceptable for Appearance, for the record.

Any ideas on your powers and such?

Or would you like to wait and see what the NPCs look like to give you ideas?

@Ever, and anyone else finding this topic from Lytherus, of course, but we're running a new version in a few days. There will be a link provided here when it is completed. See you there!
