Let's talk about animal control because I am too scared to go into my kitchen right now. I went into the kitchen to get an apple out of the refriderator and I saw a mf mouse run out from under the fridge and I fucking pissed my pants and ran out. Roommate thought it was hysterical?! WTF, it's spreading disease in our kitchen and you're fucking LAUGHING? UGH!

So, my roommate and I are going to the hardware store to buy some mousetraps or whatever to get rid of them but I have no idea what to get and she doesn't either. So I'm asking you Roleplayer Guild. What kind of mousetraps should I get? I honestly don't think I can do this. I personally think I'm gonna lose my shit if I see a dead mouse in a trap because the thought of killing even a mouse makes me want to bawl my fuckin eyes out but if I leave in in my kitchen I'm afraid it's gonna kill me from some weird disease. I think bubonic plague came from a mouse and maybe covid too?? idk anymore...

Help a girl out!

@KitsuneWarrior Let's avoid the name calling, and this is a late reply, but:

First, you need to decide if you want humane traps or not. Humane traps are the catch-and-release type ones, obviously. The others are your typical spring traps, glue traps, poison/bait traps, etc.

Unless you plan on releasing the mouse far from your house in like, some kind of field or forest, I highly don't recommend humane traps, especially if you're worried about potential diseases. Sure, it's humane, which is nice. But at the same time, the mouse will just end up finding its way back into your house unless you release it far away. Trust me: I've lived near cornfields and forests all my life. Dealt with my fair share of field mice getting inside.

Personally, I would suggest the traditional spring/snap traps. They're inhumane, yeah, but you can always reuse them if needed (you can reuse the catch-and-release ones, but see above point). These are probably among the easiest spring traps to set up off the top of my head.

Once you get the mouse (and any other mice that might be lingering around), I do suggest looking around your place for any possible way they could've got in and get it filled in. Expanding caulk is an easy fix for that kind of stuff; we did it for a temp fix to cover a hole a snake had slithered in from.

1. Blame the title. (You needing advice on pest control and how to eliminate rats, shouldn't have such a boring & inaccurate title, that doesn't provide any context. Nor does it indicate that you need or want help of any kind. Since the title alone looks like a spam post, that was put in the wrong sub-thread. Which happens all the time. So I can guarantee that nobody read this.)

TLDR: "I need help! I have rats in my home! How do I get rid of them?" Might've been better than "animal control".

2. Blame yourself. (Calling people idiots, when you don't know something, is rule one for lacking self-awareness.) You have access to the internet. It's not hard to search for that on your own. (And it's more than likely what you'd get from your average stranger online, in the first place.)

So here, https://www.letmegooglethat.com/?q=get+rid+of+rats+without+killing+them.

Have a nice day now. 👍
