Two more days to a year that I'm not supposed to be counting. The little Tom Hanks in my soul is marking days without you. Castaway on an island surrounded by an ocean of tears getting deeper daily.

Two months and a week. I miss you. This sucks. Is it bad that I pretend that you PCS'd and will be back before long? Then I remember you're gone and won't be back even if I wished it. And I do. Daily.

Two months, four days. I miss you. Can't listen to Mike and the Mechanics "In The Living Years" anymore. It came on at work yesterday as the last song and I cried.

Bio

Ugh...I hate this part. So I'm super into Sailor Moon...which no one else is...and that's okay. I also really love Items, Escaflowne, Vampire Knight, Fushigi Yugi, Ah My Goddess, K Dramas, Chinese and Tiwanise Dramas as well. I torture people by making them read the TV.

Oh this is where I tell you I'm American...and I just lost a few people but oh well. Trust me if I could afford to live overseas I would. So yeah...that's me.

As our intrepid and slightly irritated heros are running down the corridor of their choice the noise from above their heads stops. They come upon stairs that lead up to the second floor. Our young motley crew climbs up the eerily silent staircase they soon come across two doors on the landing. One that shows a continuation of the stairs, only the most unobservant would not see the stairs through the slender window. The other door is undecorated save for a scrolled two, 2, carved elegantly into the frame.

Astoundingly the door is unlocked. As our heroes open the door they are treated to a room that looks like someone just left in a hurry. There seems to be a few chairs pushed out of the way quickly.

The room is a teal color with warm wood paneling that goes halfway up the wall. There are five chairs that are upholstered in black and gold boricade designs of fleurs de les and a stop stitch pattern. There is a luxurious couch with crimson, gold and teal throw pillows. The floor is a warm oak color that is carried into the paneling there is a rug on the floor that is marbled with all the colors in the room. The ceiling is a scene of a blonde girl in a blue pinafore looking out over a stream. The scene was very reminiscent of a Thomas Kincade painting.

There is a tea set with five settings. All different.

One is a dainty thin porcelain with ivy painted on it. One looks antique. One looks as if it were made from the lightest thinnest green jade. There are patterned dots and dashes on another beautifully hand painted in a golden paint. And finally a beautiful ombré bright blue to smokey grey teacup.

On the table is a sterling silver tea service and an envelope.

Kaylee Everose

The sensation of floating was the first sensation that was discernible to Kaylee. She had the ability to cross the city or farther if she wanted to travel by the Astral Plane. She had read a book series once that involved one of the main characters traveling in dreams much the same way. Funny how she didn’t remember the series or the name of the character. No matter it would come to her later.

Names of characters in a series were not important at the moment. Simply finding the lost sheep was the ultimate goal. Rolling her neck Kaylee let her head lift on a breath that whistled in through her nose in a rush. The back of her mind registered the scents of heat. Enclosed spaces and heat. The sharp scent of hot plastic that could only be solved by rolling the windows down or freezing herself to death. She opted to roll down the windows.

Quickly the sharp scent dissipated and Kaylee noted that she would have to leave the windows cracked more so that she wasn’t greeted by the smell each time. Focusing as she exhaled she let her consciousness go.

Rising on the wave of alternating color like a psychedelic rainbow Kaylee cast herself into the Astral Plane. She’d always found it disconcerting watching her rise to the higher plane. It was different every time which was one reason that she normally shut this part out. Distantly she felt herself turn on the car and the strains of a sultry voice and she was translating the French in her head. The song reminded her of Cole.

Shaking off the thoughts that threatened to bring her out of the Astral Kaylee focused on any lingering traces of colors. Sifting through the miasma that sparkled and swirled she quickly found the trail that two different signatures left going off campus. Damnit. Couldn’t stay on campus and go to your room could you? I should have made you stay with me. I really should have looked at those envelopes before I gave them to you. Damnit Aya.

Following the shifting faint trails Kaylee let her Astral self drift to the mall. Smirking as she spotted her quarry she observed Aya and Charles shopping. Bonding. Perhaps not such a waste. Glancing around Kaylee made a mental note of where the couple were at and reached out to Charles and rolled a little of her color into a ball about the size of a penny. She flattened it and slipped it in his pocket. Astral Marking was a handy little trick that would stay with the boy so that she could concentrate on driving.

She blinked and came back to herself in the car.The sad hopeful notes seeming to hang in the air as Kaylee pushed on a pair of sunglasses on her face. Shaking off the prophetic feeling and frowning as she started up the car and turned toward the mall that she had tracked Charles and Aya to.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 15 minutes later ~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kaylee stood up as she looked around at the parking lot of the mall and sliding to the side she shut her car door. The swish of her high waisted white wide legged slacks lost in the flutter of the hot breeze that came off the pavement. Kaylee’s mouth twisted with the irony of the fact that not many people dressed like she did anymore. If anyone. She’d stand out.

Normally she didn’t care. Rolling her eyes behind her shades Kaylee shrugged her black button down blouse that was tucked into her pants shifted slightly. Her black and white saddle Oxfords tapped across the asphalt with a low steady click.

Singular in her purpose Kaylee failed to notice the full regard she was paid. Her style might have been what some considered out of date but it was striking. Notice was paid but not returned as she felt a pull to the marker that she had placed.

Catching up to the couple and pausing to observe a little Kaylee glanced at her petite watch and shook her head. They didn’t have time to fool around now. She watched as Charles slid a multitude of bills into a wallet. Kaylee almost choked at the quick summation that she did in her head. She needed to get these two back to the Institute. Now.

Walking up to the two Kaylee laid a hand on each of the students shoulders. “The dimensions of your room have changed Ms. Germain. Mr Gannon amazingly detailed construction of your fourth period class. Please do tell me where all the other students are. I would imagine you are brilliant at dioramas. So which of you would like to go first?” Her tone was frosty and dripping with sarcasm.
Dr. Sena Yüksel & Uná O’Brian

Smiling Uná nodded once. "Sounds like something my mom would say. Thank you." She looked around the room. "So what did you come here to drop off?"

Sena stepped back over to her bag and opened it slowly, shifting a few items around before retrieving a small case and placing it on the desk. “This is actually Dr. Ashford’s medication… and part of what I’m involved in developing.” She produced a metallic business card with an embossed logo that matched the case. INDIGO with the letter ‘O’ represented by a symbol. Both items were the same color as the namesake of the company while the card simply read, Dr. Sena Yüksel and a phone number. She handed it to Uná and a slight glimmer of neon light passed around the edges as it changed hands between them. “Keep that with you, it might come in handy and feel free to call me.”

Reaching out Uná took the card willingly watching the light glimmer along the edges. She studied the symbol on the card. "That is really cool. This symbol. It means something… I think. Oh I saw this symbol when we studied Egypt… I think it was in reference to their afterlife."

“Think about what we talked about and look into it,” She said with a hint of mystery in her voice and a gentle smirk as she looked back into her bag. “There is one other thing I have here that maybe you can actually help me with.” In her fingertips was a small device, similar looking to a phone or tablet, but dark and blank, clearly without power. She held it out for Uná to take, but kept her grasp briefly before the young girl could accept it and notice it was just marginally heavier than it appeared. There didn’t seem to be any receptacles for a charger, no corporate logos and each surface was the same smooth polished texture leaving no indication of a front or back. “You have some friends whose mutations relate to technology.” She said letting go of the object. “This is for my own, personal research and I need this to be unlocked. Do you think you could do that?”

Eager to please Uná accepted the device as she turned it over in her hands. "Yes. Jasper would love to get her hands on a puzzle. I'll let her have a look at it. Anything in particular you're looking for? Like how it charges or something like that?"

“Let’s just call it a little bit of…” She had to think for a moment and very innocently touched a finger to her lip as she recalled the terran expression, glancing away thoughtfully. “Corporate espionage.” She said with a sly smile. “Nothing that will get you in trouble, but if you do manage to get inside, call me and I’ll be right over.”

Uná's eyebrows shot up as she looked up from the device to Sena. "Then yeah of course. If it helps you; that helps Dean Ashford and the school, on down to helping the others and me. I'll just tell Jasper that my parents sent it and I let it die and can't remember how to find the charger. I'm good at getting people to underestimate my intelligence."

Watching the beautiful dark haired woman smile and wave at Uná was just enough to distract her from her current predicament. Giving up on the idea of meditation Uná looked around. Nope no one's looking. Even if they were she's already on campus and near Dean Ashford's house so she probably belongs here. Is she a family member? I can't see her as a girlfriend. She's not old enough for him. And far to pretty.

Moving over to the dark haired woman Uná smiled brightly at the woman. She vaguely remembered that the Dean had a Doctor that was female and Uná had seen her around on and off. Just the other day as a matter of fact...now that I think of it.

Uná held out her hand. "Hello I'm Uná O’Brian. We haven't been formally introduced but I've seen you about a few times."

Uná noticed the similarities between the woman in front of her and her mother. Well adopted mom. But her hair was that rich loam color, same as Ginger O'Brian's, and she was chic in the red and navy dress. The stripes were bold and the belt just the right shade to match the blooming roses that took the outfit from severe to fiercely feminine. It was something her mother would wear, and it comforted her instantly putting her at ease.

Uná inwardly grimaced as she recalled her undignified outfit of a lime green sports bra, black yoga pants with a matching lime green stripe and charcoal sneakers with her ankle socks peeking out in a lime green rebellion. She had felt like the color this afternoon, all energy and light, now it just felt childish next to the stunning woman. Far away were the thoughts of Ginger swearing that Uná could make even the most unappetizing green color beautiful.

Clearing her throat Kaylee nodded to the envelopes. "Congratulations it's commonly called a remote viewing or RV. Think of the world as fabric. Time woven by threads and all those threads are people's lives. They make a pattern that is solid and has a purpose. Now think about a memory as a color. So the thread is colored by people’s memories. But life is not just one color but many random chaotic and messy colors. Some colors are bolder than others, some more pastel and soft. Yet others a garish neon that everyone can see miles away.”

Kaylee placed the water bottle in front of Aya. She paused a moment so that Aya could let that sink in. “Did you ever do Tie Dye when you were younger? You took an old white shirt and randomly put rubber bands all over it or you made a design. A heart. A bullseye. What have you. And when you were done sometimes the dye would bleed into the lines. Well those lines are like the Astral Plane and the dye you used is like a memory. The memory bleeds over to the Astral Plane. Strong emotion manifests and you can remotely view a scene hours, days, weeks, years sometimes even centuries later.”

Reaching over for the coffee mug that was set among the other items Kaylee took a sip of the now cold coffee and mentally shrugged. Oh well this was more important anyway and it wasn’t the first time she had cold coffee. “You might not see colors, like I do. You might hear sounds, smell scents, taste something or even feel a touch or a breeze. You might even experience all five senses when you run across a pocket. Dates, times, places especially in conjunction with people who are powerful or have made a mark in history can even pull you into the memory reliving it.” She looked over at Aya and waited till the girl met her eyes. “I do not recommend Gettysburg, either of the World Wars, or anything to do with the 1918 Flu. No matter if you think it will get you a good grade or not in History. Too much trauma and death. Nor do I recommend anyone that is aware of the Astral Plane. You never know who is going to leave nasty surprises.”

Downing the rest of her coffee Kaylee rose and refilled it. “You really should rest before you attempt another RV. Eat and drink something. If you have questions I’d be happy to answer them.”

Kayle watched and waited as Aya struggled with a remote viewing. It brought back memories of the first time she attempted hers. The same tense, anticipation thrumming through her. Watching Aya's understand dawn on the girl and the vison took hold. Her eyes went distant and the girl started writing. Japanese short hand flew across the page.

Then stopped.

Started again.

Standing Kaylee grabbed a bottle of water for when Aya came out of the vision. Sitting back down Kaylee waited. No long after Aya started crying Kaylee grabbed a box of tissues. Gritting her teeth at what Ashford was putting the poor girl through Kaylee didn't have to wait long.

Aya was practically sobbing and Kaylee called out to her softly. "Aya? Aya Germain? Aya pay attention! You're at the Institute. You're safe. You're not in that moment anymore. You're far from that moment. Now breathe in and hold it for four seconds then release slowly. Slow your heartbeat. Let the vision pass. And we'll take a break."

Kaylee nodded to Professor Santos. "Forgive the interruption Professor Santos but I will need Ms Germain for the remainder of your class. If you'll forgive me for the short notice. You're not doing a test today are you? She noticed out of the corner of her eye the class' interest, in a horrified fashion, zeroed in on Professor Santos.

"No. Nothing like that. I'll email you a copy of the lecture and any reading materials we go over so that Ms Germain doesn't miss anything."

"Brilliant. Ms Germain if you'd be so kind as to follow me." The bright white wide legged slacks swished as Kaylee turned as Aya joined her. Professionally Kaylee had a very Katherine Hepburn style. High waisted slacks, black button down short sleeved blouse, paired with honest to goodness black and white saddle Oxfords with just a bit of a heel. The click of her heel wasn't as jarring as if she had been wearing heels.

Kaylee led them back to her office. Turning back to Aya she smiled warmly. "Just so you know you haven't done anything wrong. You expressed an interest in working with your abilities. I’m going to give you four envelopes. These four envelopes contain something you may or may not be able to see. Hopefully you will but if not don't worry. I will be monitoring you so if something happens I can pull you back. However you must record everything you witness while you're using your ability on this test. There is no real wrong or right answer."

Kaylee handed over the four black envelopes and walked over to her desk. She picked up a 70 page college ruled journal and a ball point gel pen. "You can begin once ready. I have tea, coffee, fruit whatever you like."
