do the timey-wimey thing.
"Quite a tale, Mala. Perhaps we can find you a way to stay human, if you'd like. Actually, your problem is similar to mine. I have troubling holding my shape, too. It's really uncomfortable to wake up as a newt." She looked up at a clock and then swore. "We're late for Alteration! Oh, crap!" The red-haired witch raced out of the dorm at top speed, which wasn't much in such dimly lit, cramped space.
Gertrude blinked at Vivian's appearance. So he's her... but that would mean... oh, gods! She couldn't help it, it was simply too much by half. After a good few seconds of cheerful laughter at the awkwardness of the whole situation, she recovered enough to introduce herself. "Well, this is going to be an uncomfortable year. Saint Gertrude at your service." She gave Vivian a friendly glance. "You know, they say forgiveness is divine, Vivian. You might want to watch yourself. The doors of heaven might not be as closed to you as you think."

Sarah had managed to wrap her head around the dog talking, somewhat. Sitting down on what passed for a bed in this dump, she started putting her thoughts in order. "Time magic? That's... incredible stuff, Parr. My parents were always yelling at me to make more time for school, so maybe you can help with that. And Mala, you told me earlier that you're an apple that becomes human? How does that work, exactly? Magic fertilizer?"
Gertrude smiled at AJ's awkwardness. The guy was so cute! And speaking of cute, she opened the door to her new room and gasped. It was so frilly and overblown, she had to stop for a second and just take it all in, conflicted. The modest part of her was ready to faint, but her inner six-year-old was absolutely squeeing with delight. Dropping her bags on one of the beds, she looked back at AJ. "Well, guess this is home sweet home."

Meanwhile, Sarah looked at her room and sighed. "Rats." Speaking of which, there probably were a fair few vermin in here. The shapechanging sorceress set Mala down on a dresser, then heard a rather refined voice. Looking down, she saw it was coming from a dog. But her beastspeaking powers hadn't activated, which meant... "You're actually talking? I guess I can now safely say I've seen it all- or heard it, rather."
Gertrude nodded solemnly as she got her room assignment. R-17. Got it. She headed out to Dorm Rose, noting the beautiful landscaping. It seemed that some of the rumors about just how low-quality the school was weren't quite true. The stairs were a long climb, but she eventually made her way up. The sounds of footsteps came behind her as she set her meager belongings down. "And you must be AJ. Greetings. I'm Gertrude."

Meanwhile, with a great effort, Sarah managed to turn herself back to human. A redhead in a green dress, she took Mala's apple and started for the Azalea dorms. After all, her poor roommate would have a hard time getting there without legs.

"So, you have transformation issues, too? That's interesting, but you'll get better with practice. Believe me, it can be done." She made her way down into the depths, finally stopping at A4. "Well, here it is. Home sweet... home?"
Gertrude stopped and thought for a second about the offer. Not needing sustenance was great, but she'd never minded trying new things, plus it quite possibly would be rude not to take it. "Thanks. I'm not hungry now, but I'll save it for later." In return, she fished a strange coin out of her pocket, with sigils inscribed on one side. "You can have this. I've put a blessing on it, it'll bring you good luck."

@Zinita

"No, sssnakesss don't eat applesss- but I'm asss human asss you. Well, sssome of the time." Sarah looked at Mala. "Ssshapechanging isss quite a feat, little one. Believe me, I ssshould know. Tell me, how did you come by sssuch a ssskill? Wasss it sssomething you were born with, or sssomething you learned?"

"Animation? That's a pretty neat power," Gertrude said with a smile. "Especially once you get some fine control. Here, let me show you what I can do." Taking the other girl's hand, she concentrated for a second, focusing on her devotion to the gods and their love for her. In an instant, Yon would feel all her aches and pains go away, from the most serious injuries to the simple hurts of life.

"There you go. That should make you feel better."

@Zinita

"No, jussst a shapeshifter. All that busssinessss with the plantsss and the land... not my cup of tea." Sarah would have shrugged her shoulders- if she had them. Instead, she settled for a simple roll of her eyes. "Unfortunately, I'm kind of ssstuck right now. Should be able to turn back to human in a little while. Until then..."

A realization came to her. "Oh, I never introduccced myssself. I'm SSSarah."

@RabidAnubis
"A solarian?" Gertrude raised an eyebrow in confusion. "I don't know what that is. I'm a saint, a living emissary of the gods." She extended her hand for a shake, trying (and failing) to tone down her holy aura. "I'm Gertrude- it's a pleasure to meet you. What kind of sorcery do you practice, if I may be so bold as to ask?" She was genuinely curious, always wanting to know more about different styles of magic, even if she couldn't use them.

Meanwhile, a fifteen foot black and green snake slithered into the party. The massive serpent made a beeline for the refreshment table, selecting a few fresh-baked rolls and sending them down her gullet. Sarah then got herself into a chair- no easy feat without legs- and then coiled up, her eyes poking out. "Good to sssee all of you. I hope that we can all make sssome friendsss thisss year." Sarah tended to adopt some of the quirks of the species she became, even in her human form- she still had the occasional urge to gnaw on some timber after spending a week stuck as a termite.
Gertrude made her way into the party, feeling kind of nervous. She'd been around crowds before, but it was always a little creepy. People staring at her because of her powers, or begging her to resurrect a loved one, or heal a plague. The girl took a seat over in a corner, away from the refreshments. One of her miracles was the fact that she never needed to eat or drink, faith alone sustained her. Food was just a temptation she didn't need.

"Hi there," she said in a surprisingly small, weak voice. Clearly, shyness was a problem for her.
