Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

There's been this common thought since 2015 that Rey using a mind trick without years and years of training makes her unfathomably and unfairly strong when the text of the movie shows that to be untrue. The only difference between Rey using a mind trick and Anakin using precognitive sight to podrace is that one of them did it consciously. Anakin gets a pass because he's 'the chosen one' but Rey doesn't get a pass because someone being strong in the Force shouldn't be able to use the Force once without training? Do people think Broom Kid is bullshit because he used the Force without training?

It's been a while since I've seen the prequals, but I don't remember it ever being explicitly said that Anakin used the force to podrace.

I didn't really take issue with Rey being able to use the force without training, but she was able to reverse Kylo's mind control back on him, Someone who had been trained by two different masters of the force. That among other things, like being able to beat a trained storm trooper (Finn) or being able to fix the millennium falcon better than its owner can. Because she's a scavenger? I dunno fam. I mean sure, Ray gets to win fights because she's the protag and everything, but it was just all so easy for her. I can't think of a single good trilogy where the first act is a breeze for the protagonist.
@Fabricant451

But Luke's mad piloting skills were hinted at several times in the movie. He just needed to be antiquated with the X-wing instead of learning how to fly from scratch. And he at least trained with the force before using it to guide a proton torpedo into an impossible shot. The force was used to augment skills he already had. Calling a lightsaber to your hand in a dire situation with extreme focus is also a far cry from say, using it to control people's minds.

I don't get baby Yoda though. Aside from "merchandise strategy."

EDIT: Also, Obi-wan likely taught Luke a few things as well. We never saw him teach Luke force pull, but it's possible it was part of their lessons together.

“Mariette’s burgersTM

— Billy

@ERode@PlatinumSkink@FamishedPants@Crusader Lord

Billy wasn’t the type of creature you could contain with chains. When he came in contact with them, his flesh just rolled over them without slowing up. Like pushing play dough through a metal mesh. What did have difficulty moving past the chains were all of Billy’s bones, which needed to shift around in order to get past. It would buy them time, but not much.

Sophia was standing there at the ready, prepared to cut Billy if he advanced on them.

And Hillaria Charged towards Billy, Shield raised. The giant flesh slug was hot on her heels, but she would manage to strike her target. The flesh was forced through the chains even faster, but a few ribs did manage to get caught in the chains due to the sudden thump delivered by Hilaria. She had delayed the incoming teeth, but Billy’s flesh had been forced through the chains and directly onto Amaryllis and Sophia. It took hold of their face and shoulders, but had no bones to chew them with. Instead, Billy would attempt to restrain them untill his bones came along.

Then enter Mariette, with her ghetto laser barrage. Like most girls who were kidnapped by horrors before they could go to school, she didn’t get to learn about internal diffraction. Because light has a tendency to drift off course the longer it travels, and the light Mariette had contained inside her portal box had been flying around for a long time (several seconds) The lasers came out as giant cones of light, giving Billy and his opponents little room to hide from Mariette’s onslaught.

Amaryllis and Sophia were mostly safe, as Billy had attempted to swallow them before the laser salvo hit. But it baked the flesh onto their bodies. Everything smelled like burnt hamburger meat, and the charred flesh was quite hot.

Hilaria was less fortunate, but between the light diffraction weakening the laser and her own stout body, it was an attack she would survive. Her armor was still pretty hot though.

Billy and the Flesh slug had all lost several layers of skin to Mariette’s attack, reducing their size considerably. The chrome hood ornament managed to survive by virtue of its reflective nature. Among the charred flesh, Half of Billy’s face appeared, with a large gaping hole where his mask should have been.

“That all, pumpkin?”

The flesh slug screeched before changing direction. It entirely defied physics as it dove into the air in an attempt to consume Mariette whole.

Billy was now more bone than flesh, so he made himself into an insect. That is to say he wrapped his remaining flesh inside his hardened bones. He looked something akin to a giant mecha, if they were made entirely out of animal remains that is. The more flexible parts of his body were covered in smaller bones like fangs and teeth, while the larger ones were made out of ribs, sculls, and even hip bones. His eyes were the only exposed bit of exposed flesh he had left.

“Gettin’ real tired, I say gettin’ real tired of your shenanigans kids!”

Billy took a single swing at Hilaria. Even though it struck her sheild, she was sent skidding backwards along the broken intersection. Before she stopped moving, Billy turned around and charged towards Amaryllis and Sophia. As he closed the distance, he prepared for another mighty swing. But that was just his right hand. He pointed his left hand at the girls and fired his fingers at them, which sped off like bullets.

Billy might have been worn down to the bone, but they’d have to reduce him to ash if they wanted him to stop.

“How can I hunt if it wants to be found?”

— Feral

@FamishedPants@Ariamis

Instead of slamming into each other like some slapstick comedy duo, the two Ferals glided past each other. The entire reason they planned on attacking different parts of Helga was to avoid a cross up in the event they were both successful. Though it seemed Helga was content to hide in the sewers. An odd choice, as Feral did not believe that Helga improved her chances below the city. Feral’s beastly senses were perfect for exploring subterranean passages like this. The only downside was that Lupa was struggling for control, and it was in slaying these spirits that Feral could maintain control. Feral had to be careful it didn’t let them get too far away from Endsinger.

Even if picking up their scent was hard, it wouldn’t be too difficult to hear them. Both Ferals lowered themselves below ground and prepared for the hunt. They glanced at each other, preparing to split up for a pincer attack, but that was when Emily came into view.

Now, Feral had been with Lupa for nearly her entire magical girl life. But it had been booted away for the duration of the summer vacation. So it was unaware of anything that transpired over that time. That included anything Lupa and Emily did together. So Feral did not see one of Lupa’s friends approach her, but a random stranger approach. Without fear, despite having a broken arm. The Ferals stood back to back, each looking down either end of the tunnel. Feral had finally been put in a situation it had never been in before. Normally it would just Devour Emily, but there was no fear or malice in her body language. Only unsuspecting prey and apex predators displayed this kind of behavior. For the moment, Feral would watch Emily.

The owls did not react to Shion’s wild arm motions at first, but in time they spread their wings and took to the sky with grace.
Old star wars gave us a timeless story that people can enjoy even today 40 years later. Disney didn't, which is why a decade from now (possibly sooner) nobody's going to care about it. It's going to be as irrelevant as the prequel trilogy.

Regardless of what Disney decides to do with the franchise, I'm always going to have episode 4, 5, and 6. Episode 7 was enough for me to realize Disney star wars wasn't for me.
To answer the thread title, I’ve been rather pleased with the amount of diversity I’ve seen in my own roleplays, and some of the ones I have joined. The trick is for the GM to create an environment that encourages diversity, but it also falls to the players to give their creations interesting quirks. It’s the smallest details that really make a character for me. Every medieval anime RP needs a dark swordsman with a big sword, but the difference between an interesting character and a boring one all depend on the finer details. A ruthless killer that loves animals, A nurse with a fiery temper, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to make a compelling character.

Not all diversity is created equally. Racial diversity is fine in a slice of life RP that takes place in an American school, but if you’re joining an RP about vikings, your African American character is not going to be a welcome addition to that. Same with Ethnic diversity. It’s fine to want to be a “speshal snohflayke,” but you have to avoid taking a huge shit on everything the GM has set up. Just because it has never been seen before doesn’t mean it’s good. Just because it’s a tried and true stereotype doesn’t mean it’s not good.

Running the risk of sounding somewhat egotistical, I once decided to join an RP that was all about killing macabre things in ye olde Europe. After looking at all the character sheets, I set out to make a character. She was an Irish baker who was part of the town militia, and did well enough to get one of her noble friends to make her some armor to wear on her outings. She doesn’t sound too remarkable, yet she was the only female player character in the RP, one of the only human player characters, the only one who’s main profession wasn’t related to killing things, the only character without any magical gear, the only character who wore armor, etc. I think you get the point. By being a relatively normal person, she stood out a lot more than the other characters.

On the topic of “ugly character = better character” I gotta say EHHHHHHHHHHHHH but then again I also see where people are going with it. I was in an RP where someone actually mentioned several times about how remarkably attractive their character was, and she liked and wanted to hump everyone she came in contact with. Thing is, she was also sexually abused by her father. You’d think that would give her a twisted outlook on her beauty, where everyone who wanted to pursue her friendship was “like him” and just wanted to use her because she was pretty. I guess the dad thing was just to make her pitiable. Regardless, I’ve never experienced anything like an entire RP having two-dimensional characters because they were all pretty. I chalk that up to players who care more about wish fulfillment than telling a story. I think roleplayers have a tendency to gravitate towards certain roles that interest them. As they get better, they take one of two paths. Some try to acquire new experiences by signing up for roles they’ve never taken before. Others double down and refine what they want to play, sometimes because roleplaying is more about wish fulfillment to them. Unfortunate, but not every player is interested in making a unique character.
I have it on good authority that after we execute his character, he's going to stick around because he likes us that much.

“Maybe that was too much science”

— Vermin Killer

@DarkwolfX37

The crows zoomed towards Shion, before they fumbled mid-air and smashed into her. Shortly afterwards, the befuddled birds fell to the ground and rolled several feet away from her. No one present looked like they were enjoying themselves. Let’s break that down a bit so that it’s easier to understand what Shion did and how we got that result.

The first thing Shion did was release a wave of photons, which are carrier particles for many things. In Shion’s case: They can give or take electrons to give something a positive or negative electronic charge. She did this to overload the crow’s Cry4 cryptochromes, which is a protein located in most birds eyes and enables them to see magnetic fields. This is why you can take a bird, throw it in a truck, drive several miles away, and it will still be able to fly home. Thing is, this protein reacts by turning the bird’s vision a slightly blue hue when it looks at magnetic fields. Like the giant one at the sky going to either pole. So the crows vision became very blue with this first wave. It didn’t overwrite the commands that they had been given however.

The second wave of photons were designed to remove electrons from the crows, causing them to be positively charged. Shion hoped to throw the birds off course while positively charging them. The former didn’t work, largely because their vision had already been tampered with.

The third wave is kind of interesting, as this expanding dome contained photons loaded with electrons. Because electrons have a negative charge, it would attract the electron starved/ positively charged birds. But magnetism’s effect gets stronger as you move closer to it and weaker as you are further away. So for a moment, the field of electrons actually accelerated the crows towards Shion and only tried to slow them down once they were inside of the barrier. But by then the dome was expanding further, weakening as it got further and further away. This said nothing of the already speedy avian creatures baring down on Shion. One benefit this did have for Shion is that they were moving so fast that they couldn’t possibly coordinate an attack on her. Even if they tried to slow up, their magneticly bolstered momentum wouldn’t let them.

And the fourth wave, much like the first one, didn’t have any visible affect. But this was because the birds had already undergone a crazy amount of “overload.” They likely didn’t know where they were, what time it was, or what was even happening.

From all sides, Shion was pelted by magically enhanced crows. The impact caused an explosion of onyx feathers to blast out in all directions before the birds fell to the ground. With the third dome still expanding, the crows were pulled away from Shion’s body before its effect on them had entirely dissipated. A painful ordeal for all involved. Except for one person.

”So it is magnetism.” Vermin Slayer cackled at the spectacle, wherever he was. ”Once you’re dead, I’ll be sure to split the bounty with you.” He sighed. ”But that won’t be today. Seems now wasn’t a very good time to start the hunt.” The crows rolled onto their feet and hobbled into the darkness. ”I’ll be watching you.”

“So many dinos…”

“…too little time.”

— Su Fang & Mika Sarraf

@Rune_Alchemist@Card Captor@EnterTheHero

Su was doing everything in her power to fend off the plesiosaurs, but one of them still managed to bite her wing. Fortunately, it was entirely made out of magic, so Su could separate herself from it rather easily. But it still meant a substantial drop in mobility. The worst part of this situation was that Lily ended up getting hurt anyway. Fortunately Alexander posted faster was quick to rescue Lily from further harm. She had mixed feelings about not being included in Alex’s rescue attempt, but was pleased she didn’t have to suffer the humiliation of getting rescued herself. It still irked her though. As the dinosaurs closed in on her, and as her anger welled up, she drew her staff and swung it at the approaching plesiosaurs. With a roar of furry, Su’s attack kicked up a miniature tornado that ripped through the dinos before her. Their long necks were braided around each other before the windstorm cut through their plump bodies.

“Effective, and satisfying…” Only it wasn’t really satisfying. Su felt strangely apathetic. With a hop, she sprung into the air and flew to higher ground. There was no sense of urgency as she ascended.

Mika continued to weave the water around, before jumping onto Mr Bulk’s back. “Huzza!” Through the power of Kaijo, Mika was determined to strike the necromancer in the back of the head with her chest. Hopefully this would get him to stop being so mean. Since she was out of the ring, she thought it would be okay to grab him by the back of his massive shoulders.

”Check out this combo

— Tetrad

”Cool story, bone bro.” she said before spinning like a top. ”Now let me show you why I’m number one!

Her first few attacks were designed to protect the triplets, which she did by throwing a Yellow Draw 2 card at one of the megalodons. She threw a Green Draw 2 at the other megalodon, and a Green Reverse at the weakest looking triplet, obscuring her. The green Draw 2 turned into a poisonous dagger mid flight.

Her next card was a Red Reverse, which was sure to amplify Mika’s strength. She also happened to be the easiest person to aim at. Then a Blue reverse was thrown towards Kai, who might make use of the projectile deflection the card granted.

The rest of her cards were directed at the necromancer himself, particularly the giant red stones on his shoulders. To the right side, she threw a blue skip card, which just transformed into a spinning scythe that appeared wedged in the gem, before tossing a red skip at his other shoulder, which exploded. Her next two cards were Red Draw 2s, which she aimed at either shoulder. Her last card was a Red 7, but it became a Wild Draw 4 as it was the last card in her hand. Tetrad didn’t even bother aiming this one, and just chucked it as hard as she could at the lich’s center mass. The final explosion covered the lich, Mika, and Tetrad in a cloud of black smoke.

Su looked at the spectacle and sighed. Still no feelings yet.

”A victory for Beacon?”

— Tonya “Mac” Murphy

As horrible as it was to do to poor Tetrad, Mac's spool did not state that she should be the one to bring down the litch. Nor Samantha, not even Mika. For reasons unknown to her, the Moirai deemed the fight be ended by the Ascendancy. It was a strange request, but whatever. Though just because she was letting them steal the kill didn't mean she wasn't going to turn on them again afterwards.

She used her gravity magic to weaken all the incoming attacks. It was absurd, but who was she to stand up to fate?
HASHAHAHAHAHAH

IGNORE THIS
Ice rolled his eyes at Daimyon “What? And end up being the victim in one of these crazy cases? What do you take me for? Some kind of ginkgo biloba?”

“Are we ready for alibis already?” Bliss raised a finger to her lips. “There’s still a lot we don’t know. I mean, sure, we probably don’t need to know why the killer dressed up Faith but…” The nanny corrected her posture. “Wait! Did the killer dress her up?”

Cyrus turned to look at Bliss. “There’s no evidence to suggest either one dressed up Faith.” he raised a hand to his chin. “Up until now we’ve all assumed the killer dressed her up, but you don’t think that’s correct?”

“It explains a lot more if we assume Faith decided to cosplay on her own.” She rested her arms on the podium. “She wasn’t on speaking terms with Jezebel, but they were good friends before coming to this killing game. If she somehow knew that Jezebel was in trouble, doesn’t it make sense that she might try to defend her?”

Max adjusted his tie. “So you’re suggesting that she snuck into Jezebel’s room at some point, swapped clothes, downed some mono-snooze, all to sacrifice herself for Jezebel?”

“Doesn’t that make more sense than the killer swapping their outfits? The killer’s original target was Jezebel! If it wasn’t for all the makeup, they probably wouldn’t have been fooled. But her outlandish outfit made such a ruse possible.”

Jezebel’s only response to lower her head.

Lucy nodded. “I have to agree with Bliss’s assessment. It clears up everything, and explains how the killer was able to carry Faith into the room: they didn’t. She walked in there all on her own.” She folded her arms. “That also means that she must have entered the room after Emily and Daimyon left. Did anyone see Faith around that time?”

Denis shook his head. “She there when Jezebel Zachary discovered. Left after.”

“So we need Alibis for the time between nine and ten.” Cyrus looked at everyone. “What were you doing around that time? Noel invited Bliss, Lucy, and myself to play cards in Zachary’s room, so we’re all accounted for. But Lucy did leave early.”

Ice groaned. “You know what Alice and I were doing. We can vouch for each other.”

Denis pointed at himself with his thumb. “Henry and me help Max! Like Daimyon!”

Max nodded. “We left them to keep watch over the scene while Daimyon, Emily, and myself got everyone together to investigate the trap.”

Bliss put a finger on her chin. “So the only people who were ever alone for that time were Daimyon, Max, Emily, and Lucy.”

“Actually…” At long last, George decided to speak. “I invited the li’l lass into my room. I reckon she left your card game at about half past nine?”

Cyrus nodded. “So she went straight to you. So that leaves Emily, Daimyon, and Max.”

“I reckon you can take Emily off there too.” The cowboy said with a chuckle. “I think Y’all will agree with me that this ol’ crime had to be set up while the archer and clown were taking a snooze, right? Well milk tank here spent the night with me, and I’d rather nobody look too deep into that.”

Emily’s eyes shifted side to side. “He’s just new, and he had questions, a-and, and…”

George put his hand on his face. “Quit yer blubberin’! I wouldn’t touch you with a cattle prod, let alone one of my spurs!”

“I was with Emily from eight to nine too.” Bliss said. “So she really couldn’t have interacted with Jezebel’s room before then.”

Max nodded. “That’s fair. If Lucy was with George before the trap went off, and Emily couldn’t have set up her room, then that leaves Daimyon and myself.” Max turned to look at Daimyon. “First I’d like to thank everyone for helping move this trial along. I doubt I could have solved it by myself. And as a police officer, it brings me an immeasurable feeling of satisfaction when the unjust are rightfully punished.” He fret his brow. “I was training in the Dojo this morning, I think that Denis can attest to that? He spotted me this morning and we trained until Emily discovered Jezebel and Zachary.”

“He right.” Denis smiled.

“It just all makes so much sense now. We all thought it was Emily because of how much she interacted with Jezebel’s room, but Daimyon was there right along side her. Before the morning announcement went off, he must have rigged that trap at the stairs and set up Jezebel’s room. They both used fishing line, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that our murderer made the trap as a diversion. Because he was in the room with Emily, he was able to make sure Emily didn’t notice the setup on the door.” Max’s voice gradually grew louder. “You never wanted to kill anyone with the trap, it was just a diversion. With everyone rushing around to investigate the trap, you invited yourself into Jezebel’s room to strangle her to death, only you killed the wrong victim. With Emily as your scape goat, you were confident that no one would suspect you.” Max’s finger shot out towards Daimyon. He was practically screaming. “Daimyon Londe, you twisted son of a bitch! What moves a poet to murder!?”
