Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

@Majoras End Looks pretty innocent. Accepted.

Alright, so the rest of the announcement stuff...

#1: Replacing the survey for this operation period is a regular ol' comment box in the survey section of the discord. You can use it to remain anonymous while suggesting changes to the DoCS or comment on the operation. In the end, I think it's easiest for everyone involved.

#2: There are some collabs I wanna get done this week, and I have an extended holiday coming up which should provide me with a lot of time to work on the DoCS. Figure on the next operation starting on Jully 10th or 17th, depending on how our outlook is. Do let me know if that time frame is going to be a problem for anyone. With any luck, the new glamor slot should be up the week of july 4th, which should give everyone plenty of time to make new glamors.

Untill then, keep being your totally chill selves.

Of course, why would Stripes expect faculty members of a school to say anything enlightening? "My skills are like Captain Goody-Two-Shoes, but not really! tee-hee!" Followed by a thinly veiled threat about seeking power for power's sake. Stripes didn't really care one way or the other. It was a warning wasted on someone like Stripes. She understood that the power they each held was not their own. That it was something they inherited from their stories. Even if Stripes became the most powerful magical girl tommorow, she wouldn't feel like that power was hers for a moment. The meek power of the tiger striped tabby was something she inherited. She shouldn't have even been a magical girl, it wasn't something she associated with her identity.

But maybe she would be skipping out on this benefit after all.

Stripes's power was relative to that of her opponents. If she was just going to "get swole" as a result of this benefit, maybe it wasn't really worth it. The idea of accepting help from someone who might be a mythical or legendary grimoire holder rubbed her the wrong way. Charlotte might have been a little weird, but she was a fable like herself, and proof that you didn't need to have a mighty story to be a mighty magical girl. Perhaps "Ozma" would be a better person to talk to about forwarding her learning as a magical girl. Besides, her grimoire was all about learning abilities from other arcane beings. Wouldn't it be wonderful to learn a spell from Charlotte?

Then again, if she learned how to use the tuner's, well, tuning spell...

"Thank you miss, I will think on it." She blinked once before looking all around her.

There wasn't anything going on that commanded Stripes's attention. The Fox girl was being a total Cinnabon, dunking her head in icing. The monkey was trying to sound philosophical. Bonnie boy was trying to make sense of such philosophy (You're wasting your time, kid) but would end up confused. Rose and her highschool date were talking, no surprises there. Satan was here, didn't need to dress that up to make it sound negative. And wolf girl was gradually turning into Toto as Charlotte pat her on the head.

Despite Stripe's best efforts, she couldn't supress her yawn.

She was, actually, a little interested in their teacher. Valeria was a fable too, if memory served. She wasn't too certain what her grimoire was, but anyone with a fable that made it to the position of a teacher was a hero in her book. One that brought absolutely no joy to her cold dead heart, but maybe if the tuning thing or the Ozma thing didn't pan out, maybe doubling up with someone could help teach her some new spells. Only problem was there wasn't anything for her to do presently. Ozma was preoccupied petting the wolf girl, Satan and the cyborg were talking, Lilack and monkey girl were philosophizing, fox girl was departing, but rose would be on her before long, and thus wasn't someone Stripes presently wanted to interact with.

She squinted her eyes at the tuner, who seemed to be the only one not tied up in a conversation or with Rose right now. This was going to be the route she had to take, wasn't it? "If you don't mind me asking, what is your grimoire based off of?"

With any luck, Eins was out of fortune cookie riddles.

@KoL

I'll probably post tomorrow and respond to Lupin.

I had an idea you really wanted Ozma to pat her head.
Still waiting on a response from @KoL's tuner before I do anything.
I have a few collabs to add to, but I really wanna get this announcement out before too much time passes.

First the obvious, as you know, the current operation phase is over. You can start writing downtime posts that take place between now and the next operation. I'll have more to say about that shortly.

To my knowlage, no one but Sofron made use of special notes being "free" this operation. I can kind of understand why, but I'm going to keep them free for the time being as something that comes up that infrequently probably shouldn't cost a precious note slot.

Since the opperation has ended, you level up! Everyone can upgrade a bronze glamor to a silver one! The process is exactly the same as last time. Gold glamors will not be available to players until the completion of the next operation. We decided that an operation like this wasn't quite enough to justify getting a gold glamor. But yea, same ritual as before. Make your new glamors, submit them for approval, and VE-OH-LAH, you get more stronk. In relation to that...

Regarding the DoCS, I really wanna get to the updates I wanted to finish last downtime cycle into the rp. Note speeds, keywords, and the backup system. In fact, some of you may wish to hold off on updating glamors for the moment if you'd be interested in taking advantage of mundane gear/ powerful once per operation specials. I know Klava wishes she brought a gun.

And a note on downtime...

So I don't think it's a secret that a lot of the collabs posted during downtime involve the GMs. I don't mind writing them, and most of the time, they are justified. If you want one of your characters to converse with an NPC, I'm never going to turn that down. Especially if I'm the one who prompted it in the first place! But when I look at the posts that happen over downtime, an overwhelming proportion of them involve myself or Erode. And while I'm sure he enjoys writing with you just as much as I do, that means I can't work on the DoCS to fine tune notes, add more systems, or all that other stuff. With an important operation on the horizon, I would really like to have more time to work on that stuff, but I don't want to leave you guys twiddling your thumbs with nothing to do.

Something I like about rule sets is that they ground things. I've been in an RP that wasn't quite like this one, but it was sort of the same deal and it didn't have any rules to govern how its magic worked. You could keep casting spells until the GM said you were out of mana, everything was done by GM call and when GMs weren't involved, well, the sky was the limit. Combat was an incoherent mess, and battles were determined by judgements that were often inconsistent and seemed to serve the GMs bias more than anything else. Though one thing that RP did have was that the Players were free to do whatever they wanted. They could make laboratories, forge alliances, build their own factions, what they could do was policed as well as the combat was.

That stuff was pretty cool.

I feel that when people encounter a rule system, even if it just governs combat and little else, the temptation is to feel like your options are limited by it. Even when I started using maps to show the landscape of more complex battle areas, I feel like this has limited people's creativity a bit. Does their character have line of sight? etc. I mostly use these tools to make sure combat is coherant and not a chaotic mess. If your character doesn't see something, they might hear it or could simply move and become aware of what's going on.

But back to downtime, the world is really your oyster. You can collaborate with people outside your faction to get things set up. Maybe Finn wants to track down Justin, So he looks to Ashley for help, who brings along Marrie, as she's done research into his Chinese silk worm operation. You could do a collab deciding to form an alliance, and at a later date I could write what the group's findings are in a follow up post. You could also write solo posts trying to pursue other skills. Maybe Agent Leroux decides she wants to try her hand at being a magical researcher, or further her knowledge on blood magic beyond what Binky has told her. Stuff like this requires minimal imput from me, and lets you write posts.

Again, yea, there are going to be times I do need to write a post with you, especially for the crazier stuff. But I don't you to feel like your characters can't attempt to do things without GM supervision. @The World pretty much had Marrie attempt to hunt down Justin with minimal imput from me. They just kinda did it, leaving me posts to respond to, and it wasn't until Marrie got High Priest's attention that we jumped into a collab to sort out the back and forth with the mysterious entity.

And...

Yea, that's all for now, I gotta get to work!
The basic idea is that if you have any number of students, you pick the last one and roll a dice with the same number of sides as the remaining students to see who they are paired with. Then you keep removing paired students and roll for those that remain. so if you had ten, you'd roll a d9, then a d7, then a d5, then a d3.
If I were to do it, I would do it like this.

#1: I'd create a list of the students participating, and give them each a number. For this example, I'll just have a bunch of students that are numbered.

Student 1
Student 2
Student 3
Student 4
Student 5
Student 6

#2: I have six students, So I will roll a 1d5 to see which of the students will be paired with student 6.

#3: I look at my roll and save the link to show that I'm not a cheater acting out of bias. But it's a 4, so student 6 is going to get paired with student 4

#4: I move all of the students into their new positions. Because student 4 got paired up with 6, 5 moves into student 4's old position. Not that it matters in this example, as we will be rolling for their partner, so their position is irrelevant. And since we only have 3 students left, we can roll a d3 to see who it will be.

Student 1
Student 2
Student 3
Student 5 (4)

#5: Continue rolling as necessary. Though for this example, there would only be two students left after this selection, so there would be no reason to do more rolls.

#6: Publicly announce the results, watch people ICly and OOCly scream.
@TheWendil Real talk, RPG DOES have a dice system, so you could do something like roll for random teams if you wanted to. I've done similar stuff in RPs I GM, but the problem with random stuff is that while it's random, it can also be randomly unfunny.
I'm only on page 3 of my re-read, but I remember most everyone having more or less no problem teaming up and beating down pageless, and there was an angel nany telling people what to do there.

Real talk though, Stripes more dislikes the ministries power structure than teaming up, and we have a lot more fables now it seems. So she might be less opposed to teaming up now than when the RP started. Though as I've stated in the past, sticking her with Goodhope or some other hilarious combo is also something that would be fun to RP.
I didn't realize IC people hated working together so much.
