What you want - Charlie Hellqvist was one of Gatling, Texas golden children. Star quarterback of the Gatling Garrison and on his way to future greatness. Charlie’s girlfriend Meghann Drummond, Miss Texas Teen USA titleholder had planned on moving out west to pursue a film career. They had their lives all planned out and it looked like they would both get what they wanted. If it wasn’t for that fateful homecoming game night. The team had just won and the whole town was in a state of ecstasy. So Charlie and Meg decided to have their own celebration in Charlie’s truck.

Two months later Meg showed up on Charlie’s doorstep with tears in her eyes. She was pregnant. The pair are both from highly religious families, which meant that their plans came to a screeching halt. Two months later they were married and five months after that on the 2nd of July a baby boy was born. They named him Elias Ludvig and despite their child putting a stop to their dreams, they loved him as much as they could.

Growing up Elias didn’t really create a close bond with his parents since both of them needed to work to make keep them afloat. So Elias spent most of his childhood either at his paternal grandparents or home alone. Making little Elias having a hard time making friendships that lasted. So when a little girl with pigtails sat next to him in the first-grade assembly with a wide smile Elias could feel in his little 6-year-old soul that he had found a friend for life.

Chip on my shoulder - Entering high school Elias was like a changed person. With his friends by his side, the shaggy-haired boy was like a beam of sunlight walking through the halls of Gatling West High usually with a bright smile to match. The driving force that made the change in the boy's life was credited to his friend group spearheaded by Roxanne. They became the close-knit family Elias never had. He was always there to listen to everyone and help wherever he could because he felt that he owed them that for saving him from a life of loneliness.

His real family drifted further and further apart. His father stuck in a dead-end office job never missed an opportunity to remind Elias what he and his mother had given up to raise him. But the biggest disappointment for Charlie Hellqvist was that his son showed no interest or skill in football whatsoever. This was a dark cloud that hung over them both whenever they interacted. This created a big chip on his shoulder and drove Elias to give one hundred percent in school because that was his only ticket out of the town that he felt was suffocating him. When he was sixteen his mother had had enough of living in a house with a man she didn’t love anymore and a son she didn’t know so she divorced them both in a way and headed out west.

Leaving Charlie and his son to butt heads every chance they got. Elias chose to spend most of his time with his grandparents like had always done growing up. But in his senior year, both of them died just a couple of months apart. This broke Elias in a way that he could not describe. Not even to his friends who saw the change in the young man. He started to fall back into his old ways becoming more distant and quiet. So not even a week after graduation Elias followed in his mother’s footsteps and headed out west for Stanford University.

Blood in the water - To say that Elias had a hard time in the golden state was an understatement. It turned out that leaving all of his friends back in Texas only made him feel even more isolated. So Elias did what he knew he studied and poured himself into his psychology major. He strived to be the best and that meant he had to be ruthless. Stopping at nothing to be top of his class. He was like a shark swimming close to a crowded beach spilling the blood of whoever came in his way.

So there he found himself buried in work not a friend in sight. Feeling more lonely than ever before. The only thing keeping him from going under to his depression was his weekly call with Roxanne. That combined with a visit or two from the rest of the gang was the only light at the end of his dark tunnel. They all urged him to see a therapist on his own and it was not long until he was prescribed medication to deal with his problems. They did help him keep his demons in check so he could still graduate in the top percent of his class and go on to finish his masters in psychology.

After graduating from Stanford Elias relocated yet again. This time to Portland, Oregon where he worked hard at getting his license.

So much better - Getting a state license wasn’t that hard for Elias since he took on every piece of extra work that got thrown his way. In fact, he stayed so busy that his calls with his friends got less and less frequent. But Elias was finally content with his life. He was living in a beautiful city and his work was really fulfilling and keeping busy turned out to be the reason he was able to focus on getting well. Finally, he was doing so much better.

Until he got a call that he never envisioned that he would get. Roxanne was dead. Elias broke all over again. How? How could she be dead? His one solid pillar in life, was now gone?

Going back to his hometown felt like hell. He didn’t think he would ever be back down south. But he had to go back and find out what happened, right? Now that he is back in the house where he grew up, with his father who he still feels like a disappointment around Elias feels more depressed than he has in years.

Cyrus was born to a single mother in Gatling, Texas who struggled to afford to pay for herself and her child. Despite that, she did her best for her son, and she raised him as best she could. Without a father figure, Cyrus grew up to be almost naturally antisocial, attached to his mother; not that anyone can blame him — sleeping together on the floor with the oven door open will do that to someone. In fact, Cyrus was mute for most of his early life.

Struggling in the developmental stages, Cyrus’s first word didn’t come easily for him. It wasn’t until he was almost three years old that he was speaking to his mother in short sentences. By the time he started his first year of schooling, it was still uncommon for Cyrus’s mother to get more than a sentence out of her son at a time. Concerned that he was perhaps developmentally disabled, she arranged for him to work with a child therapist provided by the school.

It took a while, almost two complete school years, before the therapist managed to get Cyrus to open up. Once that was over with, the therapist was able to help Cyrus speak more comfortably and confidently. Throughout this whole process, something was constantly proven to be true: Cyrus was smart. His reading comprehension, writing skills, and mathematics proficiency levels were through the roof. He was far beyond his peers in the third grade, and when he and his mother were presented with a choice: send Cyrus to accelerated learning courses in the big city, or remain in Gatling and integrate himself with the rest of his classmates.

They chose the latter, which Cyrus would quickly come to regret.

Even at such a young age, people are — typically — assholes. Having been absent from the class for the previous three years, for being ‘special,’ Cyrus was immediately bullied. He was ostracized and alienated by most of the students at school, and found himself wishing that he would have chose the other option. Cyrus found himself damn near alone. Throughout it all, Cyrus stuck his guns and kept himself five steps ahead of his peers academically, in some cases single handedly dragging his class through a curve.

It wasn’t until fifth grade that Cyrus finally made a friend.

Roxanne Williams invited the quiet, introverted young man to sit with her for lunch, something that at first surprised him more than anything. In fact, as he slowly made his way to her table, he assumed he was getting set up… he wasn’t. Roxanne was his first, and only friend.

From the first day she invited him to sit with him, until the day they graduated, Cyrus stuck to Roxanne like glue. He didn’t know anybody else, and even as he talked to and befriended her friends, he assumed (perhaps rightly so) he was only there because of Roxanne. Cyrus was at least happy to help with homework, and inside Roxanne’s little group, Cyrus was a hot commodity when it came to group projects. It was the best he could do, considering how much they’d done for him just by accepting them into his group.

Cyrus was primed to graduate early, going out of his way to do extracurricular academic activities to quickly acquire all the necessary credits. Instead, Cyrus chose to stick with his friends — they were all he had, after all. Quiet, reserved, and smart, Cyrus worked hard and built an attractive resume, which he used to throw out applications to Ivy League schools…

And, to almost no one’s surprise, Cyrus had his pick of the little when graduation came. With a full ride scholarship to his school of choice, Cyrus chose to go to Yale. Everyone assumed he’d do great things there, and that Gatling would have someone they could brag about.

When Cyrus arrived at his dormitory, he had big dreams and a lot of hope. He was on his own again, and a complete ball of nerves. Luckily though, Cyrus’s roommate would quickly become his best friend, with the pair of them having similar levels of intelligence. Keiran, the roommate in question, told Cyrus that the two of them were going to make a lot of money together…. That, of course, comes later.

Though Keiran and Cyrus were similarly intelligent, Keiran had something that Cyrus hadn’t yet found: charismatic confidence. However, Cyrus was lucky — Keiran was willing to teach and show his friend how to blossom. Cyrus got contacts, he learned to dress himself, he dieted, he worked out. He learned how to talk to people, and how to get them to like what he liked, and think what he thought. Keiran, with eyes on politics, was a great teacher, and Cyrus absorbed the information like a sponge. He had self-discipline; it was direction he had lacked.

Keiran gave him that.

Younger by one year, once Cyrus neared his 21st birthday, Keiran, who had helped mould him into a popular, charismatic, powerful personality told him the plan. Las Vegas. Cyrus was confused at first, Vegas was somewhere they could go for his birthday, he supposed, but he didn’t see how that lined up with Keiran’s plan…. until Keiran explained they were going to put that mathematics degree to good use: counting cards.

Cyrus wasn’t sure about it at first, but Keiran assured him they would be fine. After all, they had everything they needed. Cyrus was the smartest person Keiran had ever met, and Keiran himself was nothing to snuff at; they just needed a few decoys, and it would be easy enough for the pair of them to convince a few girls to go with them to Vegas and help out on the scheme.

By the end of the first weekend, they had made over two hundred thousand dollars. But it was a risky business. Even more so than Gatling, Las Vegas was a lawless land. If they got caught, they were dead. It was that simple. Keiran, however, assured Cyrus they wouldn’t get caught… Greed. Greed is good. Greed made them go again. Greed made them get more chips, more money, more hundred dollar bills to stuff underneath the floorboards of their dorm room.

Cyrus was ready to back out when he had what he felt was ‘enough,’ but Keiran’s greed… Keiran’s greed sent him back, alone. Keiran’s greed got him caught, Keiran’s greed got him shot in the back of the head and dumped in a ditch in the desert. Keiran’s greed convinced Cyrus to drop out. He couldn’t do it without his friend, not a chance. It didn’t matter how much he had improved and came into his own since his high school years, without Keiran, Cyrus didn’t have the will to drag himself through the rest of it.

Following his exit from college, just shy of his Master’s degree, Cyrus found himself wandering with duffel bags full of money and a lack of hope. He could have went back to Gatling. He nearly did. But he didn’t feel like he had anything left there; a promise made years ago was quickly forgotten, and his mother has passed away just a year prior. Drained mentally, and with no other idea where to go, Cyrus found himself heading south, toward New York.

There, Cyrus found the New York Stock Exchange. It was ruthless, it was cutthroat, and headstrong and… Cyrus found that he liked it there. With his bundles of money, Cyrus got the license he needed, and decided to make his own trading company: Keiran Holdings. Using the starting capital, Cyrus soon had a booming business, and more money than a small town boy from Texas knew to do with.

With no love, or hope left in his soul, Cyrus blew threw women and drugs like it was nobody’s business. What else was he supposed to do? At least the cocaine made his nostrils burn. Cyrus was bored and rich, sitting in a massive mansion that was the furthest thing from a home he could remember.

He missed Keiran.

When flipping through the TV channels, Cyrus curiously saw someone that he remembered from a life he’d nearly forgotten. Diana Lancaster, it seemed, had made a life for herself remodeling houses, with an included television show. Cyrus remembered her. She was hot in high school, she was hot now. She was out of his league in high school, but now? Now, Cyrus looked at her as a challenge more than looking at her as a possible significant other.

He reached out to the producers of the show, and they agreed to link him and her up. An eccentric billionaire (billion, with a b) from Wall Street, who went to high school with their host? It wrote itself. Once they reconnected… well, it was only about two hours before they were getting into it on his kitchen counter (which she hated, and was replaced on the show). Cyrus could check that box, not that he had anyone to tell.

In a shocking turn of events, for both parties, they found comfort in each other. She reminded him of when life was easier, and he… he had money and he was hot enough. They dated, which mostly consisted of private jetting around the world and having sex. Then, three years before they got the message about Roxanne, they got married in Thailand. Marriage has been much the same as their relationship leading up to it was.

Now, the pair of them have agreed to head back to Gatling to pay their respects. Cyrus feels he owes it to Roxanne, because if it wasn’t for her, he would have ended himself before he even made it through junior high.

”We will absolutely take you up on that, the Bellagio it is” Sami knew that it meant far more sense for him to try and break bread and build some semblance of a bridge with AJ. The RV in hindsight was a terrible idea and he wasn’t really sure what if anything was going through his mind at the time. Really the whole thing was a spit in the face of daddy dearest. Maybe a night in Sin City and a nice windfall would help Sami make up for his mistake. Some cold hard cash won at a poker table might help him buy a better mode of transportation for the Misfits. The journey would not end here.

A furry looking dude suddenly turned up at their campfire and Sami gave him the once over. AJ was right, the guy looked like he had been walking for days. He pretty much looked like Sami felt most days. ”Welcome hermano, make yourself comfortable and help yourself to the snacks and booze littered around” Samuel was never one to be unwelcoming. Part of the unwritten creed of the misfits was that everyone was welcome and everything was permitted.

Pulling up a pue next to Yessi, he took the joint from her fingers, ”Thanks, mami” Drugs were never really Sami’s thing. He didn’t like the idea of anything really affecting his mood but what did it matter now? After that last visit to the doctor he didn’t really care anymore. As he breathed in and the chemical party began in his already foggy brain, his mind wandered somewhat, his dark eyes becoming lost in the flickering flames of the campfire before him.

Fire was the element most likely associated to Sam. The fever and the rage that had defined the Cubano for most of his life came from a fire within him, a little Latino heat. That’s what everyone had convinced themselves. The idea that his temper was from another cause had never really crossed anyone’s mind. Taking another drag from the joint before passing it along again, Sami exhaled the smoke as if he was dragon, discharging the flames within in order to cool down his very soul. He reached down into a nearby cooler and pulled out a beer. It was ice cold and a perfect accompaniment to the smoke. Caution was definitely being thrown to the wind tonight. It was their last summer after all. Maybe it was the weed, maybe it was the booze or maybe it was the subtle winds of change blowing through their makeshift camp but Sami was feeling open, more open than he would normally feel comfortable with.

Roxanne’s Journal Entry: Another night where she's sleeping over. I wish I could make things better for her. All I can do is provide her a bed when she feels like running away. Oh and waffles for dinner. You can never go wrong with waffles. Nellie has so much heart, even if she hides it behind insults and that god awful attitude. Maybe, one day, we'll run away together. And maybe, one day, I can help teach her how to be a lady. I love her to death but the way she acts now we'll only hurt her in the long run. It's okay to be vulnerable, Helena.

<sub>Walls are built for a reason. Anger is deeply seeded because of something. When love dies, it changes into a power play and festering insecurity. He killed her and no one can convince Helena Perfect otherwise. Vivian's words of surrender meant nothing to him when he slammed her against the wall. "Don't hurt my mommy!" Slap! "Don't fucking touch her!" Her memory came and went in bits and pieces. Flashes. Her mother shielded her, as he threw fist after fist. Then, after he was satisfied, the steam left from his body and Edwin snapped back to his senses. The act continued. She covered her bruises, scars, and flaked make up with a smile. No one suspected anything. They were a Perfect family. An upcoming Construction Manager, a florist for a wife, and three children. Two sons and a daughter. Conrad, Eugene, and Helena. That is until Vivian couldn't handle the weight of the family anymore and 'accidentally' drove herself into the river.

With no mother to protect her anymore, Nellie had to learn to take care of herself at a young age. Her brothers sure as hell wouldn't take care of her. They were already showing mannerisms of their father, using their dominance and stupidity to control her every move. As if having her father as her 'keeper' was enough, she had two dip-shits keeping tabs on her too, like they owned her. She couldn't go to sleepovers. She couldn't stay out too long. She couldn't participate in many clubs. She couldn't have an inkling of enjoyment without making them dinner first. This life wasn't going to cut it and even if she ended up dead like her mother, she was going to live the life she wanted.

When she was in sixth grade, two years after her mother's passing, her walls were breached by Roxanne "Roxy" William and her perspective on life changed, even if she couldn't easily let the anger dissipate. Together they figured out ways to spend time with one another even if it meant Roxy had to slip into Nellie's room and when an unwanted visitor came in, hide under the bed or in the closet. This daring wildfire became the most important person to her. Her best friend.</sub>

<sub>Her highschool years were basically a fuck you to the world. She acted out. Got into fights. Got punished for tainting her father's name. Ran away from home. Got punished when she was caught. Slept around. Got punished for the rumors. Found and bought things for cheap and sold it for a higher price. Got punished for that. Nellie's restlessness was unbearable and to her small town of judgmental prats, she gained the reputation for being a flaming bitch and a fucking disrespectful delinquent. "Oh Edwin, your sons are the prime example of what men should be in this society. Make sure to give this pie to them. I know Conrad loves my pies especially. Your daughter on the other hand..." Nellie was the Raging Bull of the Century. Oh and one of her favorite names: a Cock-biter. That rumor still lives on.

Death can be a blessing or a curse. Her mother's death was a curse. But her father's death? Godsend. There was a construction accident just a little after her 18th birthday. Most people would get terrified of what to do, how they were going to succeed and get a proper education. Nellie? She was preparing for this moment since the day she lost her mother. She already got accepted to the college of her desire, Berkeley, with basically a full-ride scholarship. She saved as much money as she could so that she could afford to move out of this shithole. And she had no one holding her back. Her brothers were upset when they found out that their father left her a portion of his life insurance. In a weird, fucked up way, he loved her - she guessed. But they were going to make sure they had everything else that he didn't specify in the will. The house, his car, his savings. She told them fine - but unbeknownst to them, she made sure she took everything that was left from her mother, with her. And in their minds, their mother was their father's property. She counts that as a win.</sub>

<sub>You'd think her childhood would've been the years that broke her, but it was actually her adventures in college pursuing accelerated classes for both her bachelors and masters in social work. She rarely had free time. When she wasn't working, she was writing papers and making sure she kept her GPA at a 3.8 or higher. Ideally, she aimed for a 4.0. She doesn't know how it happened but she met a man and fell madly for him. Nellie wasn't going to let that compromise her studies and he knew that. Fortunately, he was pursuing a similar career path, specializing in child psychology, so they made the most of the little time they had. He'd visit her while she waited at the diner. She'd visit him while he broke down from stress, gifting him with his favorite candy bar. They'd visit each other late at night and they'd take a moment to breathe, eat Chinese take out and just hold one another. He actually didn't want her for sex and that made her feel... different. They met during the day at the library between classes to do homework together. This man softened her heart and showed her that there was beauty in life. It may be simply in the little things, but it was there. He was there and thanks to him, she had a reason to believe that everything she wanted to achieve was worth it. That living was worth it.

That is until he had to take a long break from his studies due to personal family issues, and for her sake, he chose to end their romantic relationship and 'just be friends'. Eventually, she found out that she made him realize that he was gay. So, she decided that focusing on herself and her child welfare goals, with plenty of experience in fieldwork and constantly aiming to protect children from deplorable situations would be a priority. Becoming emotionally attached to someone, though, causes some of the worst pain when you lose them.</sub>

<sub>It didn't take long for her to join an agency in California and show them her worth. Her first job was a social worker in the foster care system. Her life was constantly on the go, rarely did she look back to her past, though her and Roxy did keep in contact. Their communication started decreasing the more successful Nellie became. And then Roxy died. When Helena thought she finally was over terrible things, it punched her again, but this time in the worst way possible. Through her best friend. Although Helena constantly battles fits of anxiety, loneliness, and being hard on herself, nothing compares to the feeling of losing someone you loved with more heart than you realized you had.</sub>
