If you want to play both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I'd recommend trying out A Tale of Two Wastelands.

If they at least have the decency to say that they're leaving instead of simply ghosting the RP, that's good enough to me.

I originally got into forum roleplaying on the official Bethesda Game Studios Forums in 2007 or 2008. When the forums were replaced with Bethesda.net, I was one of several close-knit Fallout RPers who came here.

Léon Reverdin

It was a surprise to Léon when he was approached by a group of four. The first of them, Sieglinde, introduced herself and her companions- Tristam, Cass, and Finn. It seemed that Léon's group wasn't the only one that wanted this job. His first impression of the group was that they seemed to lack a healer, but two of them looked to be archers, which Léon immediately recognized as something that his own group sorely lacked.

"To be honest with you I have an interest in where we're going, too. So if it's money you're worried about I can take a reduced cut if the payout is lower than we're expecting. If that helps. Guys, come over and introduce yourselves," Sigi spoke, compelling her companions to come forward.

The first was the hooded man. "Tristram Ullr. Pleasure working with you." His trappings suggested he was a rogue, but Léon could discern little beyond that. Regardless, a Coin's skill set could be useful, the cleric assessed as he shook Tristam's hand.

"You're heading your group. We ought to compare notes. My problem children and assumedly the tagalong can be leveraged well enough, but it takes a clear picture of what you're dealing with," Tristam proposed, getting straight down to business.

Before Léon could respond, one of Sigi's and Tristam's companions interjected, objecting to being referred to as a problem child. After her outburst, the fiery haired (and evidently fiery tempered) woman introduced herself. “Cassia van Zyl. I am not a problem child.”

It seems there's a bit of tension between them in their own group. I'll have to ask Tristam or Sigi about it later on.

"Good to meet you, Cassia," the cleric replied, nodding to her. "I am Léon Reverdin, a cleric of the Church of Mayon. After the introduction was done, he turned to Sigi, whom he still needed to address.

"You need not worry about splitting the reward with me, won't be taking payment on this job beyond reimbursement for expenses," he assured her. "I feel it would be unethical for one of the cloth such as myself to accept a reward from the Church for doing my ordained duty."

Next was to address Tristam, and his proposal of sharing resources. "Here are the details of the job posting," he said, offering the paper to the hooded man. "I wish I had a clear picture, but it was rather scant on details, other than that they don't seem to know what sort of danger we might run into. Normally it seems a little unconventional to tackle a job with seven people, but with how little information we've been given on what we'll be up against, it seems wise to step into it with a diverse repertoire of skills."

Jane, Maribel, What do you think of this?" he asked his own party members. "Do either of you have any concerns about the prospect of handling this job alongside Sigi's group?" He'd also need to ask the guild clerks of this was allowed, to have enough people for two groups handling one job. With himself, Sigi, and likely Maribel not taking money for this job, there should still be a reasonable cut for the remainder.

Fleuri Jodeau

If there was a threat that could be seen from where Fleuri and Jerel stood, the two knights could not see it. None of the guests seemed to behave out of the ordinary, and no threat could be seen from the vantage points that Jerel had pointed out. Fleuri was considering approaching the Princess when he heard a commotion coming from over there. There was no doubt in his mind what had happened.

It was true. It was all true.

"Come on Jerel, we need to help them," Fleuri said, as he headed in the direction of the disturbance. Now with no concern whatsoever for propriety, he shoved and pushed past the dense crowd, silently uttering a prayer to Reon that the Princess was unharmed, as he followed the sounds of the contining scuffle. When he finally reached the scene of the crime, it had been mostly already resolved. Gerald had subdued what looked like an assassin, a Nem from the look of it. Maritza, Nicomede, and Gillian were nearby, ready to back up Gerard if needed. Tyaethe was in the process of pulling a crossbow quarrel out of her chest, unfazed by what would be a serious injury for a mortal man or woman.

Did someone shoot her? No, she must've blocked the shot. Nobody would be foolish enough to try and kill her with a mere crossbow bolt. But where's the Princess? Fleuri breathed an audible sigh of relief when he finally noticed the Princess, underneath Fanilly, seemingly unharmed.

Thank Reon we seemed to have stopped her, he mused, as he knelt down to grab the assassin's dropped knife. A damaged crossbow lay nearby, no doubt the would-be-murder weapon. I'm not exactly an authority on assassins, but I had to wager a guess, it'd be that she intended to use this on herself, he silently mused as he examined the dagger. Best to keep it out of her reach in case she breaks free of Gerard's grip.

"Gillian, Maritza, could either of you bring me up to speed?" he asked, looking up at his fellow knights. "What did I miss? Was anyone besides Tyaethe injured?"

If someone wants me to change my post to interrupt Léon's journey to the guild clerk, please let me know.

Maribel seemed to be fairly enthusiastic about the adventure that Léon had chosen, although her manner suggested that she'd probably be happy with any quest. Jane, however, didn't seem to share the Mayonites' eagerness, although from what little she spoke, Léon wasn't sure if she was shy or just apprehensive. Léon didn't worry too much about her- it was normal for some people to get nervous before going on a mission, moreso when, like this one, the risk involved wasn't entirely clear.

I should keep an eye out in case their contrasting attitudes threaten to cause any tension.

"I suppose I'd should speak to one of the guild clerks to formalize it," he spoke to to to two ladies, grabbing the paper and rising out of his chair. "The three of us should be enough, so long as we properly prepare." It was a slight disappointment that it looked like they weren't going to get a fourth taker for their group, but between the three of them, they ought to be fairly well-off in terms of martial ability. Léon was unsure to what degree of magical power Maribel had, but even a newly ordained Paladin of Mayon would have some restorative and protective magic.

The cleric strode over to one of the clerks and placed the paper on the counter. "Good morning. Jane, Maribel, and myself would like to take this job, to recover artifacts from the monastery. Is it alright to take this job with just three members? And I don't suppose the Church left the Guild any other details regarding this mission? You know, any background of the monastery, the general risk of the region it's situated in, and if they're looking for something in particular."

You better hope you never need a healer, then.
Léon Reverdin

Before Léon could reply to Jane, they were interrupted by a new arrival at their table. "Oh? Looking for party members? What a coincidence, so am I! What's the quest? I would love to join you both!" Maribel bluntly interjected.

Normally, Léon would have been slightly annoyed at this undiplomatic interruption, but it just so happened that Maribel was just the person he had in mind for this mission. He didn't know her personally, but he knew of her; this towering woman was a Paladin of Mayon, and that even the most novice paladins were very capable and well-equipped warriors with an added bonus of a repertoire of divine magic.

"Well, this is quite Serendipitous," Léon said as he turned to the new arrival. "Greetings, sister, my name is Léon Reverdin, a Cleric of Mayon from the Shrine of the Pierced Skull. I'd heard a paladin of the Church had joined the Guild, and I was actually hoping that you'd be available to join us for this quest. I think you'll find it a worthwhile cause for a fellow faithful of Mayon," he proclaimed as he gestured to the paper on the table."

With the three of them, they would be pretty solid in terms of healing, protective magic, and close combat. Léon didn't expect for a monastery to have any traps or elaborate security, so a Coin didn't seem strictly necessary for this. On the other hand, because they didn't know what sort of dangers awaited them, it'd be a good idea, he reasoned, to bring someone with skills and abilities that none of them had. Perhaps an archer or a mage, someone who could deal death at long range, and perhaps recognize early signs of danger that the three of them would otherwise overlook. Léon glanced out at the other adventurers, wondering who among them would be willing and available.

"Do either of you have any thoughts or concerns about this mission, or any ideas on who we ought to bring along as our fourth party member?" he asked the two ladies at the table.

Jerel was right- in Fleuri's haste to get here, he had drawn a lot of attention to himself. Many of the nobles has taken notice, some directly brushed by the knight, others simply noticing his uncharacteristic rush through the ballroom The social ramifications of it still seemed unimportant, but it'd likely make it harder notice something amiss.

This is my fault! How are we supposed to find danger if everyone's watching us too? In the middle of his worried train of thought, something dawned on Fleuri.

"Wait a minute...their reactions might tell us something. They may be a little suspicious of something, but they're reacting as expected for one who doesn't expect any peril. At least not the sort of peril that is to be expected at a gathering like this."

Don't get me wrong, Jerel," Fleuri elaborated, "These soirees are rife with the aristocracy's schemes and games, but this is different. What we're looking for is something outside the bounds of the games of intrigue and plotting that the nobility come here to play. They expect that the quarrels and spells unleashed here will be of words, not steel and magic. Whatever the danger it is, it'll be something out of the ordinary- or rather, what is considered ordinary here."

The challenge for Fleuri was that while he might have some idea of what to look for, he didn't know where to look for it in a ballroom of this size. By contrast, a man like Jerel, a lower-class man who was practically born with a bow in his hand, would probalby have a good idea as to where an assassin might position themselves, but might not be sufficiently familiar with the manners and etiquette of the aristocracy to realize if one of the attendees was acting off.

"Jerel, you're a skilled bow-hunter, correct?" he whispered to his fellow knight. "Where would you guess an assailant might place themselves to threaten the Princess? I've attended enough of these events that I could probably spot something out of the ordinary here, and if you can narrow down where the danger could come from, we might be able to pinpoint this danger to the Princess. As he spoke this, he felt pangs of doubt? What if he was wrong, what if he's putting the knights on alert over a child's prank? Fleuri glanced back at the cake and recalled it vanishing without a trace in the space of a few seconds.

If it turns out this is a prank, it's a very elaborate one beyond the ability of most of the nobility.

Jane was as distant as ever. N-No. I've... already eaten. These are the uhh, more quests for the board. Would you-- like to take a look at them?"

"I appreciate it, Jane," Léon answered, "But I suppose I wouldn't feel right about getting first peek at them before they're posted. I try not to worry too much about getting to jobs first. Being a Cup, it's easy enough to find a group in need of my talents." As far as adventurers went, Léon wasn't particularly adventurous- he had only joined the guild at the behest of the Church of Mayon, and hadn't been particularly proactive in finding ways to risk his life- mostly he just tagged along in the not-uncommon event that a group needed a healer.

Did I snub her, he asked himself after giving his reply. Was it inconsiderate of me to not take up her offer? Léon felt a wave of worry wash over him. He didn't want to make someone feel even worse.

"Tell you what, I'll take a look at the ones you already put on the board," he spoke, basically muttering the first thing he came up with. "Hopefully there'll be something suitable for 4's like us. You're welcome to any of my food in the meantime." Léon got out of his seat, leaving his food on the table. He didn't really care much for the jobs themselves, it was mostly just to try and conclude this conversation in a somewhat natural manner.

The cleric made his way to the board. Because of the crowding, it took a while for him to get there. Sophie's tirade from earlier gave him ample motivation to take it slow and not bump into anyone, so it was slow going. Some of the others were getting creative to look at the board- Mellifleur's undead thrall was lifting a female Nem mage, Nefrena if he recalled correctly, onto its shoulders so she could see the board. While he was at first enormously apprehensive about a necromancer parading around a skeletal minion, he had become accustomed to its presence. He had never asked about it, largely because both Léon and the skeleton's controller were both Cups, it was unlikely for them to end up in a group together.

After taking more time than he'd have liked, Léon finally got close enough to the board to look at the jobs. He looked over the postings, more curious than anything at this point. Some were above his ranking, some were below, and a few were within it. Orc hunting, probably not. Escort duty, probably pretty easy but looks pretty long. Disappearances, sounds risky, not to mention no clue what I'd be getting into. But wait, what's this?

His eyes practically lit up when he saw the fourth and final job within his rank. A monastery lost since the war against Orodrunn has been located and the church is willing to pay handsomely for any artefacts recovered...yes, YES! It mentioned being potentially risky, but he didn't care. It was a church job, and an artifact recovery one at that. In just a moment, Léon's apathetic demeanor disappeared, replaced by motivation and determination to see this particular job through. He snatched the paper from the board and took it with him as he made his way back through the crowds to the table in the corner, where Jane still was. It wasn't enough to take a job, he'd need to find at least three other people to bring along, and he knew where he could find at least one adventurer who hadn't yet joined up on a job.

"Remember how I said I was just content to wait till others ask me to come along on a job? Well I was wrong," he spoke to Jane, much more upbeat, as he placed the paper on the table. "They posted a job from the Church to excavate artifacts from a recently rediscovered monastary ruin, and I feel it's my duty as a cleric of Mayon to ensure that this job is fulfilled. I won't be able to do it without a decent party, however, and I haven't seen you mingling with the others, would you like to join after you've finished posting the next batch of jobs? I could use a Sword, and could also use some help putting a party together."
