RWBY: Burning Beacon

Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past.

Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness — creatures of destruction — the creatures of Grimm - set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void.

However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named "Dust".

Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life.

But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness will return.

So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world", but take heed... there will be no victory in strength...

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to my Alternate Universe RWBY RP! We will be taking on the roles of Beacon Academy's newest students, taking on the creatures of Grimm and standing as the shield between the world of Remnant and those who would do it harm.

Basic RP and Forum rules apply, no god modding, no power plays, or controlling other characters without permission, no romance over PG13 (Take it to PMs if you really want ...that)

Here is the Character Sheet:

Name: (Character name)
Age: (should be around 16-17, can be as young as 15 if you can explain why you'd be accepted so young)
Gender: (Keep it simple, Male or Female)
Race: (Human or Faunus. If Faunus, specify what animal and include any extra animal attributes in Other)
Appearance: (Can either use a pic, or write a description. Or both, if your pic doesn't do your character full justice)
Bio: (Just some basic info about your character. Where did they grow up? Why are they coming to Beacon?)
Personality: (Who is the person behind the hulking weapon? How do they treat other people? You don't have to put every last detail here, just a general idea.)
Semblance Name: (The name you have given to your Semblance)
Description of Semblance: (What your Semblance does.)
Semblance Limitations: (The limits of your Semblance, to keep you from being too powerful. Please list at least one flaw here, something that cannot be overcome as no semblance is perfect)
Weapon: (List and / or Describe ALL forms of your weapon. What can it do? Does it work with Dust? Images are okay)
Combat Style: (How does your character engage in combat? Are they an in-your-face brawler type who overwhelms their enemies? Do you prefer sticking to the shadows before delivering a fatal blow? I ask for at least one sentence here.)
Other: (Tell me something interesting about your character, what do they like and dislike? Do they have any other special skills? Include any Faunus attributes here.)

“Ah! Yeah! Hansa Agouti, at your service!”

"So I guessed right then... Pleasure to meet you Hansa." Kaldyr replied as he returned Hansa's pleasantness with a slight smile of his own. Before he could turn away, Kaldyr caught a glimpse of the boy's prosthetic legs resting at his bedside. He recalled that Hansa said it had been "a bit over a month" when everyone noticed his lack of natural legs. Kaldyr couldn't help but wonder, What happened? Was it a foolish mistake that cost their team leader his limbs? Or perhaps the circumstances were more... malicious in nature... Nevertheless, curiosity took its hold and if Kaldyr possessed as much tact as a certain other member of Team HGCK, he might have bluntly asked their leader then and there. I highly doubt that he'd be comfortable talking about it with people he just met... somewhere down the line I'll ask him privately. Though until then I cannot help but wonder...

As he went off to bed and pulled the covers up to him, Kaldyr thought to himself. So Team HGCK... I wonder where our path will lead us. None of them seem downright intolerable, just somewhat... eccentric, that's all. Hopefully these next four years will be enjoyable... He stole one more glance at the others before turning away and closing his eyes, mere moments after the boy drifted off into unconsciousness.

Kaldyr woke from his sleep earlier than most would want to on their first day. The Wolf Faunus had not been in Vale long, and as such he was still stuck on Mistral time. He drowsily rubbed his eyes as he silently yawned. Reluctantly, he forced himself to sit up and gaze at his unconscious teammates. He expected that he would likely be the first one awake, and so it seemed until he looked over at Hansa's bed. It looked like he just woke himself and had immediately decided to answer a scroll call. Then out of seemingly nowhere the voice of a yelling woman ripped through the room, causing the semi-conscious Kaldyr to jump. The unknown woman's voice was painfully loud, out of instinct the boy covered his ears. Hansa's call with the woman continued until she decided to scream loud enough to wake the dead. Needless to say, Kaldyr was less than impressed by this choice. At least Hansa himself seemed considerate of the other's rest, trying to get the woman to quiet down as they spoke. "Talk about a rude awakening..." The Faunus mumbled to himself as he tried to wake himself further.

A loud bang echoed through the shared room as a familiar looking panflute clattered to the ground, Kaldyr watched as it changed forms in front of him. The beautiful musical instrument elongated and became an instrument of destruction that was currently launching itself in Kaldyr's direction. Swiftly, he practically threw himself back on to his bed in order to dodge the speeding spear coming his way, he watched as the weapon embedded itself in the wall, wavering for a brief moment before regaining its stability. He cast a gaze over to Glas and caught her both wide-eyed and whispering an apology. "It's fine... no harm done... Didn't expect to be dodging spears at this hour though." Kaldyr said as he forced himself to his feet and stretched. What a way to wake up on his first day, although he no longer felt tired or groggy. "Who was that on the scroll Hansa? Clearly they have no respect for the sanctity of sleep." he quietly asked as he grabbed clothes for the day, seeming slightly annoyed.

"I was born in Vacuo and raised in Atlas."

“I'm from a small town on the edge of Mistral but I've been living here in Vale for a couple months now.”

Kaldyr practically tore into one of his bags as his teammates spoke, listening closely as he scoured its clothing filled depths. Charon coming from Vacuo did not surprise him whatsoever, as the boy seemed to be a free spirited sort based on his immediate flirting attempts. The shocker however was that he'd also lived in Atlas. Sure, that explained his appearance, but as far as Kaldyr knew Vacuo and Atlas were essentially each others opposites in every sense of the word. Why would one go from extreme freedom to such extreme restrictions so willingly? Another oddity... Something I'll need to ask about for certain...The other Faunus was also from Mistral, interestingly enough. Kaldyr stole an inquisitive glance at the team leader to see if he seemed familiar at all, but after a few moments he resolved that the Rabbit Faunus was a new acquaintance rather than a familiar face. How strange that there was two people from Mistral on his team, yet he recognized neither of them. Then again, he may have simply never noticed them, or perhaps they truly were never there to begin with. Either way they were his teammates now, their place of origin mattered not nearly as much as who they were.

As if to punctuate his mental conclusions, Kaldyr managed to extract a black undershirt and some loose fitting shorts from the seemingly endless abyss of densely packed clothing. I'm never letting Hatia help me pack again.... As he was getting up to leave the room and get changed, he overheard Charon's great blunder.

"Shes both beautiful and talented..."

As well as Charon's attempt to quickly pass the unwanted attention... to him.

"Yea everything went perfectly fine, ok, well I'm going to bed now, goodnight."

...What just happened? Kaldyr stood there somewhat stunned by the sudden turn of events. Gazing first at the heap of covers that currently shielded Charon, before looking to the girl from Mistral, who was seemingly unfazed by this whole ordeal. He let out an exasperated sigh and set out towards the door once more, only to have his earlier question be answered by the Rabbit Faunus.

“Well I didn't do much out of my ordinary. I guess I did something right…”

More interesting than the boy's words however, was his legs, or rather his lack thereof. In their place was two high-tech looking prosthetics, Kaldyr looked on out of sheer shock as the other boy fiddled with his false legs. Not wanting to seem rude, he attempted to shake himself from the stun and respond. His usually stoic face was moved to an expression of unease and nervousness that at first permeated his response, but fell away as Kaldyr spoke and recomposed himself. "Well, it's clear that you did something right. First of all you are not in some Grimm's stomach right now. Not to mention the fact that you are also the team's leader." With that said Kaldyr turned away, left the room and got changed.

When he returned, he was welcomed by a familiar voice yelling.

"WHERE ARE YOUR LEGS?!"

Kaldyr simply did not respond as he made his way back to his bed. As he sat and set his other clothes down he felt a wave of fatigue wash over him, the days events finally taking their toll on the exhausted Wolf Faunus.

“You know, bed doesn't sound too bad. I mean we do have classes tomorrow! We can't be late!”

"I'll second that idea. We should try to make a good impression on the teachers tomorrow, and that would be quite difficult if we were tired out." He paused for a moment before remembering a rather important question he needed to ask. "Oh and just so I don't embarrass myself in the future... Your name is Hansa, right?" he asked while looking at the Faunus boy.

@Raptra I'll get something up ASAP.

Kaldyr lost himself in thought for a moment, as the gravity of today's events set in. He'd made it through Beacon Academy's initiation, and now he had a team. Yet another step closer... Soon I'll be one of them, but first, I need to prove that I am ready. I can only hope that I've made an impression on the instructors after today. At the very least they see me as adequate, otherwise I'd be in the stomach of a King Taijitu right now... No matter, I'll find out soon enoug-

Kaldyr was pulled from his focus as the other members of team HGCK began to speak.

"Hey, at least you got me the hot one if you catch my drift"

"You all are pretty cute to me so push my choice,"

They're flirting... ALREADY. Great... he thought to himself as he rested his head on one of his hands and let out a quiet sigh. Kaldyr could only wonder how these two could be so close already, though he did not consider it much further. The girl's comment on him being 'cute' was certainly... strange yet interesting at the same time. He could not think of why she would see him as such, but the reason was irrelevant.

“Where are you guys from? Last night I heard about people from all over Remnant! So I'm curious!”

The question posed by the other Faunus on the team brought a growing feeling Kaldyr had been wrestling with to the surface. Homesickness and worry both plagued the wolf Faunus, he missed his family back in Menagerie. Kaldyr couldn't help but worry for his father and mother, would there even be enough space for them back home? Menagerie had always been cramped at best, but they'd make do, they had to. Then there was the issue of his younger brother, Skolas. During the attack Kaldyr's will to became a huntsman was solidified, but his brother's was utterly obliterated. He almost seemed hollow after that point, and Kaldyr desperately hoped that he wouldn't stay that way. Wishful thinking wouldn't solve any of that though, all Kaldyr could do was bury his worries and hope.

It turned out the girl on their team was from Mistral, interestingly enough. Kaldyr didn't recall seeing her during his time at Sanctum, but then again, socializing was something he avoided most times. It would be no surprise to him if he had merely forgotten her or never even met her before.

Shaking himself from his semi-stupor, Kaldyr regained his composure, faced the other Faunus boy and spoke.

"Well I'm from Menagerie, but I did live in Mistral for a short while. Just long enough to get through Sanctum at least." He paused for a moment, before resuming with a sort of nervous haste. "Oh! I haven't even introduced myself yet. My name is Kaldyr, Kaldyr Tolbac."

Following his somewhat-botched introduction, the sound of soft music caught his attention. His ears twitched in the direction of the sound, and he looked to discover that the source was the girl from Mistral. She seemed to be playing a panflute of some kind and the melody was lovely. Is she floating or have I finally lost my mind? He thought to himself as he looked on, though a few more seconds of investigation revealed that she was indeed hovering. She was just kind of suspended in the air, as if held by an unseen force. The display was only amplified by the music carrying a serene and almost comforting sound. Strange... I wonder how...

It then suddenly occurred to Kaldyr that he'd been staring at the girl. Rapidly, he broke his gaze and begun searching through and unpacking one of his larger bags.

"It's a bit of a shame, I didn't really get a chance to see any of you in action back in the forest... Speaking of which... How do you guys think you did on the initiation? Personally I can't get it out of my head."

@Raptra Better, but inspiration for this post is unfortunately scarce. I've kept you waiting for far too long. If you're tired of waiting I'm sorry. And I give you full permission to control Silas if you want to speed this part up. I'm honestly considering passing my turn up in favor of having the rp progress. Again I'm sorry for keeping you waiting.

"And finally, we have Hansa Agouti, Glas Bonsai, Kaldyr Tolbac, and Charon Fotiá. You four retrieved the White Rook, from now on you will be named Team HGCK, lead by... Hansa Agouti!"

The announcement of Professor Ozpin pulled the Faunus boy out of his reflection on the day's initiation. The events kept playing back in his head, as if he were unconsciously examining his own actions for faults. He was almost bursting with excitement as now he finally was on a team, Team HGCK. The fact that he would not lead a team was disheartening, had he not been fast enough during initiation? Maybe it was for the best, Kaldyr never really was the kind of guy to be social. He'd always leave the idle chatter and conversation to others while he'd be busy studying, training or reading.

The more pressing matter was that of the new team. The screen behind Ozpin only gave a picture to work off of, so Kaldyr knew next to nothing about these people. He looked at each photo with intent, studying and analyzing the faces. He could easily pick his team out in a crowd, learning their names though would be a whole other mountain to climb. It seemed that there was another Faunus on Team HGCK, that was a huge relief to Kaldyr. There had been almost no Faunus aside from him at Sanctum, at least not any that sprang to mind. This would be a nice change of pace. For the next four years he'd be with this new team, hopefully none of them were obnoxious. He could only hope.

Moments later he was lead to a room that would be shared by Team HGCK. The insides of the room were remarkably plain, four beds, a couple of desks, and zero originality. As the team flooded into their criminally bland room and looked around at its disappointing contents, Kaldyr looked over the rest of his team. He was the second tallest of the bunch, shorter than only Charon, who he'd met earlier.

“Well, it's time for team HGCK to unpack!”

The other Faunus on their team, whose name Kaldyr was not certain of, had somewhat decent wordplay skills but a better point. The bags Kaldyr was carrying were heavy, VERY heavy, so he'd set them down at the first chance he got. Once he had dropped the burden he'd been carrying for what felt like ages, he turned back to the team to see the only girl on their team give a terrible salute. "Saluting? I didn't know we were in Atlas all of a sudden..." He remarked jokingly as he sat on the nearest bed. There was quiet for a moment and then suddenly.

"I'M SHARING WITH ALL BOYS!"

Any composure Kaldyr had was shattered at that moment. The stoic mask fell away for a bit as he let out a genuine laugh. There was no need for a stone face, at least he didn't think there was with these guys. They all seemed like decent people, and so far none of them had done anything idiotic. Then again, Kaldyr still didn't know any of these three well enough to call them friends quite yet, but he trusted that would change pretty soon.

" The next four years are going to be an adventure, that much is certain."
