To be honest, the Mora-Sho was one of Leif's least favorite factions. They were the underdogs of the war, weak and crippled with low expectations of winning. Their lore was also edgy as fuck, seeing as they were corpsefuckers and all that. Probably smell, too, not that Leif had any right to complain about it since he smelled like wet dog most of the time. As far as Leif was concerned, he was more interested joining one of the more popular factions, one where he would get recognition from all. Still, seeing that the small majority of the group leaned towards working for the Mora-Sho, Leif decided to hop on the bandwagon at least for now. A few of his friends were excited about the faction, and it wasn't his place to tell them their choice was wrong or anything.

Leif was a bit worried about if his Shaman powers would diminish if he joined the Mora-Sho given the implications of his class clashing with that of the faction. Don't druids hate necromancers, anyway? Leif wasn't too worried about it, however, seeing as it'd be more of a reason to reset from here. If he knew he didn't have to be a shaman from the start, he would've taken that option long ago. Could've taken some sick-ass Wuxia shit or something, maybe go into full magic seeing as there was only a whopping one mage in the party. It'd mean starting from the beginning again, but it wasn't like grinding was too much of a slog for Leif. At this point of his schooling, he's starting to realize trying to maintain a good GPA was mostly a waste of time anyway. Having more time for his hobbies wouldn't necessarily hurt.

Once they made it to the camp, Leif cringed a little at the skeletons dancing, and even more at the tryhard sign. Faction was really starting to give him some sweaty vibes, especially with a squeaker at the front desk. That aside, the clan's aesthetic wasn't actually all that bad in all honesty. Still wasn't a clan Leif felt like swearing himself off to yet, but it wasn't too unbearable.

"Hell yeah we are! Fucking shit up is our specialty." Leif said as he looked up to the kid, with a cocky grin, before crossing his arms and getting straight to the point. "We're looking for work as mercs for now. We aren't looking to tie ourselves down just yet. I'm not a fan of commitment, if you know what I mean." Leif giggled, knowing with confidence that the kid does not know what he means. "But nah, we're just here since the other clans are full of weak-as-shit noobs. Don't want them dragging us down or anything. They probably play with automatic combat on, those fucking casuals..."
It's honestly difficult doing secret actions such as ambushes, so I don't blame you for being stumped on them. Running these sorts of PvP arena roleplays in the past, I've always handled actions requiring preparations in a way that does allow for the most basic of reactions to the action in question. Usually it's matters like ensuring the action is in the post, and having any specifics messaged to me privately.

An example of this is if, say, someone decided to poison the food of a well-known food supply area. I would usually have them ensure that they've written out their character had tampered with the food in some way, and through DMs they can tell me just what they did with it, from if they poisoned it to more specific instances such as the effects of the poison and the like.

That said, a lot of this does come from having trust in all parties that the narrative is playing a focus here. It's a bit harder to write out such scenarios in pure PvP settings without being unfair to a degree. This also comes from the assumption that people are playing their characters to form. Someone known for being honorable and forthrite wouldn't stoop to poisoning food for example, and someone who isn't known for their intelligence wouldn't just sniff the food and go "nope, something is definitely wrong with that!"

In the end though, my method is pretty imperfect and requires a degree of trust to be had. It works if you want to have a narrative focus over a competitive one, at leaat~
Seems interesting. Count me in, potentially~
Shigenaga Nomura
It's dangerous to go alone...
@Rune_Alchemist

Nomura considered Mie's suggestion of training carefully. He had thought of such a prospect before, especially given how treacherous this new world happened to be. As much as he wished to rely on others for protection, it was clear to Nomura that he would not always have someone to protect him. That is to say, it's not as if he didn't plan to form his own entourage. Rather, it would be in his better interest if he were able to defend himself in the event he would be separated from any form of help, be it against the strange beasts of this or the treacherous men who live upon it.

"Hm, you do raise a good point, Lady Mie. I have been meaning to improve upon my skills with the bow as of late." Nomura stated, making his way to the gathered weapons and eyeing the arrows. "That said, I could also use a weapon in case threats come a bit too close for my liking. Perhaps a concealed weapon of some sorts, something that wouldn't draw too much attention or ire from others. You wouldn't happen to have anything like a blade hidden in a cane, or other such weapons, would you?"

Nomura examined the different weapons on display, looking for something inconspicuous. He already had a dagger, but he could still use something more to protect himself, particularly something with a longer reach. Perhaps a simple staff? In any case, he awaited Mie's suggestion, stroking his beak inquisitively as he gazed at the weapons with thought.
Arcture - Adventurer's Guild - Hall

Kaito filled the registration form out diligently, ensuring that every detail was written legibly. He wrote rather quickly, his hand dashing through the form as if he were in a race. When it got to describing his fighting style, however, he would pause. Listing his abilities for all to see seemed a bit counterintuitive. Even with the disclaimer that his techniques will not be revealed to his opponent, Kaito knew that to reveal his techniques before he performed them would be against his own personal code. What if his opponents- or much worse, evildoers- got their hands on this information? Not only will the Ironclad Demon's techniques be laid bare, but the entire Fuuma clan's abilities will be known. Kaito cannot allow this!

So instead of filling this portion of the form correctly, Kaito instead wrote about how the Fuuma clan's ninjutsu is unbeatable, filling every line he could with praises towards the strength of the Fuuma. Surely, this will suffice. If they wish to know more of the Fuuma-clan's techniques or Kaito's own abilities, they would have to find out for themselves in the tournament. For now, this introduction alone would suffice.

As far as the hunt was concerned, Kaito would scoff at the idea. There was no material object that Kaito really cared for... except, perhaps maybe a new suit. But that could wait! A hunt would merely keep him distracted. He should train and improve upon himself for the tournament, ensuring that all his techniques were refined to perfection. Because of this, he declined any notion of formally joining a hunt...

... Of course, this didn't mean Kaito didn't plan to join his fellow students on their hunt. He would plan to follow them to this haunt, improving on his ability to move silently. There weren't many opportunities where he could improve on such a skill, and on an impressive quarry to boot. That Strigidae boy had a keen eye, one keen enough to give Kaito a proper challenge in the shinobi arts. If he could remain undetected against him, then surely he should be able to surprise whoever would happen to be his opponent in this tournament.

"Hmph. I'll pass." Kaito scoffed, crossing his arms. "I've got more important things to do than box with a ghost. I should get to know this city better... perhaps there are injustices deeply rooted in its streets. Ones that require my fists to mend. Fuuma Kaito, out!"

With that, Kaito dashed backwards towards the main entrance of the guild as if propelled by the wind itself, keeping his arms crossed and facing the group as he did. Once he was out of the doors, he would continue outward until he was just out of that strange magical sphere that surrounded the guild. He would then begin to scale the rooftops once more, performing the proper hand-signs and breathing techniques to mask his presence as he did. All he needed to do now was wait until the group departed, and he would begin his training in espionage...

The Fishing Hour
@Rune_Alchemist

Nomura gazed at his catch in awe, going so far as to look into the fish's gaping mouth. The other fisherman's comment had earned his curiosity as well as his attention. A rare catch? He had a few questions, but it seemed most of his questioning would have to wait.

"Ah, very well. I'll see to her in a bit. Just need to return something." Nomura nodded to the Oni, before standing up. He would look for the fisherman who had lent him the rod, seeking them out.

"Hello, friend! Thank you for lending me your fishing rod. It truly is blessed!" Nomura had stated to the fisherman, showing him the lucky catch he had managed himself, before a silly idea came to his head.

"This rod holds a sort of hidden magic in it... It should bring you and yours prosperity. I'm an expert in seeking out, ah, hidden blessings and power in the mundane. The spirits in this rod truly are fortuitous! Just believe in me."

Nomura chuckled to himself at his previous statement, curious to see if he could use that ability for a different purpose. It's not like he's talking completely out of his ass, or at least he believes he isn't. It seems the Chagawans hold similar beliefs to those of the East in his lands. If Nomura's assumption was correct, it's likely the belief of spirits residing in items was one they may also share. He wondered if his dabblings into the occult theories of his world could be transferred to this as well.

In any case, Nomura returned the rod to the fisherman and made his leave. He wondered what Mie wished to speak to him about. To his understanding, the situation with Donovan was already dealt with. He'll just retrieve the shard from his corpse after he is finished meddling with powers beyond his control. Ayumi should be there to keep careful watch of him as well, and she'll now get paid handsomely for it.

"Hello, hello! You called for me?" Nomura squawked as he entered the tent. He felt a rather dull presence in the tent with him, but elected to ignore it for the time being.

"Ah yes, regarding the shard... You shall have it by tomorrow at the latest! Ayumi's ensuring that the other party keeps their end of the bargain, and I trust them enough based on character alone. I, on the other hand, hold no such honor. If you wish for me to bring his head, I can accomplish that as well, attached to his body or not." Nomura boasted, confidently. Not confident in his ability to win a fight against Donovan, but in Donovan dying in his quest back into that hellhole.

"Ah, I also have Ayumi's payment for her help right here. Amazing, right? The fishermen here say its one of the most elusive catches in these shores, normally only caught on long days, whatever those are... Is there anywhere I can store it to keep fresh?"
Shigenaga Nomura
The Watching Game
@Rune_Alchemist

Interested in how potent this visual empowerment was, Nomura would spend a good amount of time watching Donovan intently, mostly out of interest of his ability to see things from afar clearly. It seems that the rambunctious catgirl also seemed to find herself in Donovan's mischiefs, alongside the dwarf and a hunter. It seems he really was interested in meddling with that gods-forsaken place after all. Whatever foul magics they wished to unearth from that prison was of no real interest to Nomura, his main concern being if he plans to abscond from what he owes Nomura or not. And seeing that he's going deeper into that place is enough of a guarantee that Donovan isn't going anywhere for the time being. While he didn't trust Donovan particularly, he trusted the sort of person he was. More importantly, he knew that fox would watch Donovan for him, or at the very least inform Nomura if he truly planned to run once the dust has settled.

In other words, Donovan was no longer Nomura's immediate concern.

Having enough of his show, Nomura allowed his vision to return to normal before making his way back into the village. He wasn't keen on reporting to Mie right away as the current going-ons would only bring his patron unneeded stress. It's better for both their sakes if she believed Nomura was still hunting for that heirloom of hers. As far as the village itself was concerned, Nomura was unaware nor did he care for its current state. All he was truly concerned about was finding something interesting to do. Perhaps he'll find that fish for Ayumi, after all.
Nomura sat by the shoreline, watching the tides move ever so slightly as his rod was cast into the ocean. Obtaining it was rather easy, needing only a few choice words for a particularly hospitable fisherman to borrow his fishing implement for a time. Of course, he could have probably charmed that same fisherman into giving him a fish for himself, but he didn't want to cheat out a poor man's livelihood for his own self-benefit. After all, he had all the time in the world to figure out the art for himself. Might as well make the most of it.

All this watching, this waiting... it gave Nomura ample time to think about his situation. Namely, his place in this new world and his own capabilities. He began to wonder if ascension, if perfection was truly within his grasp. Sure, his place in this world might have been dictated by the wills of gods and goddesses, but it wasn't his faith in those beings that allowed Nomura to reach where he was now. Rather, it was Nomura's faith in himself that allowed him to thrive in this world. He was given a body sculpted by the divine, capable of accomplishing its own miracles. Wings that allow one to move with grace, a boundless spirit that empowers his every movement, eyes that can reach the farthest of distances... In the world where Nomura was once from, these would be considered miracles in their own right. And with the potential to accomplish feats far grander filled Nomura with a new sense of purpose.

Perhaps he can craft his own miracles. Perhaps he can truly form his wishes, his desires into a truly actualized form. Perhaps he was already a god, perhaps something more, and he just needed to look deeper within himself in order to truly tap into his potential.

Nomura chuckled at his musings, the ridiculousness of his own claims setting in. After all, if he could truly shape miracles, he wouldn't need to go through such great lengths to catch a fish. He was, in the end, a mere human. Like the fisherman he had borrowed the rod from. Like the craftsman concerned for his village's elder. Like the hunters who gathered in secret. Nomura's acts, as miraculous as they are, were brought forth not from him creating his own miracles, but instead from believing in himself. He believed he could run faster, so he did. He believed he could jump higher, so he did. He believed he could see farther, so he did. He did not break any perceived limits to accomplish what he had done. He did not perform the impossible. He simply believed in what he could do and did it.

A fisherman believes that he will eventually catch fish. A craftsman believes that they will craft something worthy of praise from others. A hunter believes that their hunt will be fruitful. To proceed and to progress is to believe that one could accomplish anything. It is this belief that allowed humankind to flourish, to reach heights once believed unimaginable. This is what made Nomura a human, in the end. Even with an otherworldly body, even with the magical energy that encompassed his soul, he would not act on his own whims or accomplish what he has if he weren't a human. A drive to accomplish the impossible was far greater than simply performing the impossible. After all, the latter implies that even the impossible is limited to what one believes to be impossible.

Accomplishing the impossible, however, was not at the top of Nomura's priorities for the time being. After all, all his current goals are in the realm of possibility. Instead of worrying about such things, he fished, believing that he will catch something to his liking.

The Waiting Game
@Rune_Alchemist

Once everything was taken care of, all Malphas had to do was wait. As far as he was concerned, Don could do anything and he didn't care too much, so long as he got what he wanted in the end. Still, he wasn't quite sure why he needed so much gear for. Of course, the idea of Donovan ending up leaving with everything before the agreement was made was a possibility Malphas could not risk. It's good that Ayumi had volunteered to follow him, but...

"I don't think I'll be telling Mie about this little excursion. At least not yet." Nomura squaked, stroking his beak as he spoke to Ayumi. "How good are you with your paws? We'll need some for of insurance if he tries to run. I know him to be a man of his word, but I also believe myself to be the opposite. If you can, see if you can take the shard from him at the first opportunity you have, and only if you're able to do it unnoticed. And if he tries anything that will break our agreement..."

Nomura grabs his sheathed dagger, making sure its poisoned blade is completely covered and usable, before handing it to Ayumi.

"Has a good bit of that flower Mie tasked me to get lathered on it. Perhaps it could be of better use to you? Of course, that is assuming he breaks our agreement, whether if he tries to run with the shard, or if he were to happen to not have the shard on him on the time of his payment." Nomura chuckled at the last bit. "Oh, and you should be getting your fish from him. Feel free to do with him what you will if he doesn't pay you when he's done."

Nomura had a feeling the poison, at least in its current form, wouldn't likely kill those of his kith. They are, after all, blessed. Still, he knew its effects were just potent enough for the fox to take her share and leave. In any case, Nomura would watch the direction Donovan would be headed. He wondered if enhancing his body with magic would also include the scope of enhancing his senses. He would attempt to focus the mystic energies in his body towards his eyes so that he could keep an eye on him from afar.

HP 2160/2160 SP 2370/2370 MP 3060/3060

Leif grunted in annoyance at the group not knowing a thing about the symbol. At the same time, he hasn't really seen them in a while, so he isn't about to go out of his way and leave just like that. After all, he spent all this time grinding so he could play with them. "Well, not that it matters too much. I'll look for it later. Oh, and fuck you guys, haha!" Leif laughed at the banter from his group, flipping the bird to Amulak appropriately. "Yeah, I'm touring around Africa. Not in Thailand, haven't been to the Southeast in a while. Can't stand the water there. Gave me the shits. Things have been going solid tho, might be heading home, in about a week from now." Leif said, knowing he's got finals that week and would probably need an excuse for his absence.

"And nah, I figured you were a catfish this entire time" Leif quipped at Ames, knowing he is also treading dangerous waters here. "But what do you mean? Are you saying you can pick up other classes? Fuck me, I've been playing this game thinking I'm stuck with being a wolf this entire time!

"Well, if you guys hadn't picked a side yet, I'm fine with fucking around for now so long as we don't lock in anything just yet. Want to get a feel for the different factions and all. So we're going in as mercs? Or are we gonna wait around for places where some of the lower-levels will be and fuck their shit up the old-fashioned way?"
Arcture - Rooftops

Kaito stood atop one of Arcture's taller buildings, taking a moment to study his surroundings carefully. He had arrived later than most of his peers, having spent an extensive amount of time registering his weapons. Particularly, the young shinobi had ensured that every individual shuriken under his possession was registered. How could he be a true hero of justice if he didn't ensure he would remain accountable for everything he would do in this strange and new world? After all, he is a representative of both Silver Gate as well as the Fuuma clan. To be responsible for his own actions was a matter of course.

When Kaito had entered Arcture for the first time, he of course wasted no time in making his way through the sprawling cityscape the only way a true Fuuma shinobi would, leaping from rooftop to rooftop until he was at a high enough vantage point to really take in his surroundings. Orienting himself to the city was important for a variety of reasons, from studying landmarks to knowing the proper routes for faster travel throughout the city. Of course, traversing the city's rooftops also allowed Kaito to ponder on his own, giving ample space for him to be alone with his thoughts.

It wasn't too long since Kaito had been registered to the school. It wasn't quite his choice on the matter, sadly. His parents had chosen this school for him for reasons still unknown to him, despite Kaito's protests. After all, he entered exile of his own volition. Shouldn't he have the right to choose where he would go on his self-imposed sabbatical? It's not like he's a child, either... or at least, he wouldn't be in a year from now. Minor custody laws are truly unjust! As far as his classes have gone so far, Kaito had only focused on improving upon his own physical skills, practicing both with the blade and his fists. The magic classes, however, grated on Kaito. It was nothing like learning ninjutsu, being based more on study and theory. In the end, Kaito held little interest in the mystic arts.

It was issues like these that had Kaito feel like an outcast among his peers, doubly so in this magical land. Aside from ninjutsu, Kaito had no true exposure to magic before, specifically in its most studied form. Arcture was full of individuals saturated with yin, whilst Kaito was undeniably seeping in yang energy. He was well aware that he needed a proper balance of both energies in order to fully utilize ninjutsu. Perhaps it is through his adventures into these lands that Kaito would improve upon his study of the magical arts in order to improve upon his own techniques. If he could improve on his yin, he would be another step closer to being like the great Kotarou.

Speaking of adventures...

Kaito extended the kite from the back of his armor before leaping off the building he was on, allowing the winds to fully extend the rest of the kite. As he would take to the skies, he performed a series of quick hand-signs before controlling his breath, allowing the weight of his armor to decrease just enough for him to soar through the skies. He would glide overhead the main road towards the Adventurer's Guild, making his descent just a few yards away, keeping note of the barrier surrounding the guild house. As he landed, Kaito strapped his kite back into his back before making his way to the guild's entrance. Before he entered the building, he made sure to dust himself off so he would look presentable enough, from combing his hair with his fingers to making sure the lights on his chestpiece were working properly. Once all that was done, Kaito made his entrance, striking a pose.

"The Ironclad Demon of Justice makes his entrance! Fuuma Kaito, here to register!" Kaito pronounced, producing his green badge and holding it outward.
