And the thread is up!
Now to make the character sheet
In Defiance 6 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay

On the large and diverse island of Akripola lie several nations in a peaceful state of coexistence. Food is plenty, and there generally isn't anything big to worry about, except the occasional epidemic or war.

In the east, hidden away in a cold valley between several mountain ranges, is the Kingdom of Aryali. Famed for its many gold mines, the many mountains mean that the weather in Aryali is often cold, and the locals often say Aryali only knows two Seasons: Winter and Autumn.

To the south, between several major rivers, lie several states working together under the banner of the South Akripola Merchant Union. They are expert shipbuilders and traders, and are responsible for most of the trade networks on the island. However, the wealth isn't divided well. The rich tend to be very rich, while those who aren't part of the merchant families are often poor.

Akripola has many mountains, and in them lies the Stormpeak Empire. Named after Akripola's highest mountain. The Stormpeak Empire is a militaristic nation, responsible for over 75% of the wars in the last 50 years. Even now during peacetime, despite the general peace of the land, the Empire still employs bandits, pirates and raiders to steal from their wealthier neighbours.

In the lush forests and plains on the western half of Akripola lies the Kingdom of Nora, a peaceable nation, but at the same time a powerful one. It is the youngest nation, having only recently finished conquering their last enemies and claiming the fertile plains in the west of Akripola. Given so much fertile ground in the kingdom, most of the inhabitants are farmers. Nora is also home to plenty of ruins and other ancient sites, remnants of long-lost nations.

And finally, in the sun-baked deserts of Northern Akripola, reside several small nations and nomadic tribes. Though the heat of the sun and general lack of water makes living in the Northern Desert a difficult task, the Northern Tribes fare quite well for where they live. Now, one could of course ask the question "What makes it worth living in the desert where there is nothing but sand?” That is certainly true, provided you don't look under the sand. The Northern Desert is home to many gemstone mines, with the gems found there being of very great quality, surpassing even those gems found in Aryali. Unfortunately, most of the miners don't get to benefit much from the profits, as the miners tend to be convicts or slaves.

However, in the last few months the peaceful Island of Akripola has been rudely disturbed by an increase of appearances and attacks of monstrous creatures! While some of these creatures are considered to be very rare, others were considered to be no more than myth, until now. This strange increase in monsters does not only threaten the living conditions within the townships and cities of Akripola, it has to a greater degree started to affect the country regions. where the business of travelers and other nomadic types are now in imminent danger, causing trade on the island to drop dramatically.

As if that wasn't enough, it seems that several Necromancers have teamed up, as undead attacks are becoming more and more common, threatening villages and farms. These attacks are becoming so common and devastating that some people are starting to fear a famine might break out in the upcoming winter...

This is where you come in. Perhaps you're a farmer, desperately hoping to avenge your family you lost in an attack, or maybe you're an adventurer, hoping for some excitement. Perhaps you're a bounty hunter, hoping to earn a lot of money, or you could even be a criminal, hoping to clear your name. It doesn't matter, but what does matter is your goal: To find the source of these monsters, and return everything back to how it used to be.

Now, if only you knew where to start…. So far, your 'quest' has been fruitless.

You've managed to find no trace of the origin of these creatures, all the while attacks kept happening all over the island. Your travels, no matter how short or how big, have brought you to the town of Nadska, in the Kingdom of Nora.

A riverside city, Nadska has so far been spared from monster attacks, though the countryside around it has not. Smouldering ruins of farmhouses and destroyed farms are a common sight on the approach to town, and makeshift wooden crosses left behind as a memorial to the dead sanctify the landscape. The town itself has possibly been spared due to its walls. These walls are nothing special, just small stone walls, but still better than nothing.

Inside, the citizens of the town go about their daily life as if nothing is going on, though the amount of town guards has increased while the amount of travelers has decreased.

From here the story continues, on a boring Tuesday afternoon in Autumn...

Location of Nadska

Hello there!

After a loooong while in development, I’ve finally made the actual thread for my RP. Woo!

So, let’s get straight down to business. As you can probably tell by reading the plot, I’ve added a bit more to the story, a change that this time has everyone arriving at the same place, Nadska.

This is intentional, since it’s much easier to start an RP with the characters in the same general area (this time a town) than having them spread all across the island.

That being said, this does not mean your first post needs to start with your character being in the town. As long as they are in the general area by the end of your post it should be fine.

The Character Sheet should be up soon as well, I’m putting the finishing touches on it atm, but I decided to make the thread at this time so people can ask questions and give their opinions on things before we start, then changes can still be made if need be.

That being said, I received an interesting question on the Interest Check Thread, one asking about the Magic System. Currently the ‘system’ I have in mind is a simple, a freeform one.

Anyway, onto the less-fun-but-still-very-important bit: the Rules. Some of these might be obvious, but there’s no harm in repeating them.

Some of them may seem very childish, but that’s because in the past rules like these were needed since the average person that participated in RPs where I used to RP tended to be of a lower skill level than the people here, so I’m kind of used to stating them just in case.

0 - The GM has the final say if an argument ensues. That doesn’t mean that you’re not allowed to argue if you think something is wrong, it just means that if the GM says an argument is over then it’s over and you’re expected to drop the matter.
1 - Although Common Sense can be rare enough to be considered a 10-point trait in GURPS or a Super Power in comics, please use it.
2 - Your character sheet is expected to contain all info on your character’s abilities and such. If you want things to be kept secret from other players, PM them to me. This is to ensure people don’t pull abilities out of thin air and say “Oh that was a hidden ability of my character.”
3 - You are allowed to have multiple characters if you want to, but don’t go overboard with them.
4 - Certain abilities are too powerful to have. I’ll list them when the Character Sheet goes up. If you really want to have a specific ability that is banned, PM me about it so we can discuss it. Other powerful abilities aren’t necessarily banned but instead simply toned down.
5 - Most importantly of all, have fun.

One super dog coming right up! :p

Well if we go free form, I may just incorporate my own magic system for my character. It's body heat based. The magic runs off the heat stored in the person's body. However, his body heat can also be stored away in bits clothing for later magical use.

Also maps are good. I do like my maps! especially when they are rolled up and tossed a few yards for me to retrieved for may ma----- ah-hem. Bad boy! Bad Pezz. You are non-dog person. Bad bad bad!

Oh, that sounds like quite an interesting system. So yeah, I'll probably go freeform then to allow people to decide what they want to do themselves.

@Dartbored Fairy

Oh boss, are enchanted items part of this RP? I was planning on having a scholarly type of person who likes experimenting with them and whatnot.

Yeah, enchanted items are a thing because enchanted items are fun.
Especially if they have bad effects and the players don't know this.
Important question. Can non-dog internet persons RP as a dog? Said non-dog internet persons being me in this case. I can write a mean "Grrrr. Bark. bark. woof!"

Less important question, though much more serious question. Magic system. Free form or more structured?

Do you have the IC up already? I noticed I'm a tad late. Sorry, sorry. Only just rejoined the site.

RPing as dogs? Unless you're a somehow very Over-Powered dog it should be fine.

As for the magic system, I have had thoughts of creating a more structured one in the past but I decided to keep it free form for my first RP here to not scare off people who'd rather not have to deal with a more complex system. Though, if there is enough interest in having a more structured system then I'll reconsider, of course.

As for the IC, I was slightly delayed due to deciding to make a map, but if all goes well it should be up today, and otherwise tomorrow.
I should have the IC thread up sometime today or, if things get in the way, tomorrow. Just thought I'd let you guys know!
So, that makes about 9 Interested Persons! (Nobody has yet corrected me, therefore I assume none of you are dogs. If you are, please let me know so I do not make this mistake again)

Anyway, I'll probably start working on the OC thread soon, best to not keep anyone waiting, right?
I'll go ahead and join this probably. Would a larger single party be encouraged or perhaps several smaller parties (and probably one guy who would go off on his own because people do that)?

While I'd prefer having a single large party purely because that's a bit easier to manage, I don't particularly mind if people split up, especially not when they split up to explore a specific location. But yes, a larger single party is preferred but not mandatory.
The Main Thread is up now!

Greetings, Person!
(Note: This is assuming that you are, indeed, a person. If you are, for example, a dog, then please forgive me. This is the internet so I wouldn’t know. Feel free to let me know.)

You probably haven’t heard of me before. That is normal. You see, I used to RP on different sites but I recently decided to go here because the places I used to RP on have sorta died. So I thought “Heck, this place is sorta dying. I should go to a place that isn’t dying because it’s no fun if the place I RP at dies.”
And lo and behold, here I am, planning to host an RP!

Now, since I used to RP elsewhere, my style of GM’ing might be different from what you are used to (or it might not be! Who knows). If you, at any point in time, do not like the way I RP, then please tell me so I can take your opinions into consideration and learn from them!

Anyway, enough about me, let’s talk about what you’re here for.
This RP is an idea I’ve had for a while. In it, I plan to have the Player Characters explore around the island of Akripola and pretty much do whatever they think needs to be done in order to accomplish their goal. Just don’t expect for them to get away scot-free if they think raiding and pillaging is a valid way to defeat the enemy. You’re trying to save people, not kill them before the enemy gets an opportunity to do so. It’s not a competition with the antagonist (or maybe antagonists, you never know!).

Anyway, about what would and would not be allowed in this RP, and a bit more info on the setting.

Regarding tech level, Gunpowder and stuff hasn’t been invented yet, so the main weapons of choice would be swords, bows, and magic. Magic isn’t rare, but it’s not common either. Learning Magic takes years, and mastering it even longer, so any old farmer wouldn’t reasonably know how to use magic. That being said, there can be exceptions.
Some farmers could know simple spells to make their lives just a bit easier. Maybe they know a spell that helps keep away insects, or helps plant crops or something. But things like combat magic or enchantments or other high-level magic? That stuff takes years of studying. When in doubt about whether or not your character would reasonably know some kind of magic, ask me. I’m here for a reason!

As for what species are available for playing? Well, the ‘default’ choice is Human, but if you wish to play something else, I’m open to discussion, as long as your idea/race/whatever isn’t too OP and fits in with the rest of the ‘world’.

I’ll create some more ‘solid’ rules later, but since this is the Interest Check I thought it was more important to provide y’all with some other information, mainly about the setting. The rules and stuff can come later.

Anyway, this should be most of the things that go in an Interest Check. If you have any questions, just ask. I’ll gladly answer them for you!

I hope that this RP appeals to you and that you decide to join!
This seems decently interesting, I might join this. How do you plan on having this be RP'd? I'm curious and would quite like to know how you plan on having this play out
Hello there, fellow persons!

As you can probably already tell, my name is Dartbored Fairy, but you can just call me Dartbored. Or Fairy. Or something, it's up to you really, I'm fine with almost anything!

I'm semi-new here, I'll let you decide for yourself what that means. I have experience with roleplaying and have a preference towards Fantasy-themed roleplays, which is something I hope to both host and participate in!
I'd put my writing-skill-level somewhere in Casual, mainly because I'm not very good at describing things and writing massive posts. English isn't my first language after all.
I mostly RP'd on other sites however so I'm not too familiar with how everything is supposed to go around here, the 'Interest Checks' bit still confuses me a bit (is that where we apply to join? Or is that just where we put a thread saying 'Hey, I made this/am planning to make this, please check it out and tell me your thoughts'?)

Anyway... what else should I put here? I'm not sure really. Well, if I forgot anything important someone else will come along and tell me what I forgot, no?

I hope to have a lot of fun around here, and I'm reasonably sure I'll manage to accomplish that goal with ease!
