I am also just waiting for the dig-site stuff to show up at the port. The fact that the ship was in atmosphere made my previous post about some Apis being at the riot invalid and I've actual just gone and removed that part. seeing as no-one else mentioned it it then there shouldn't be any ripple effects as a result of that edit.
@floodtalon when do you think you'll have your first round ready so we can post at a similar time?

Well there went one candidate out of the equation with Leon’s abdication. She was a little surprised, with how he acted yesterday she thought he might have leapt at the opportunity to lead in the way he wanted the captain to. Perhaps he simply wasn’t the leading type then, but had high expectation of his superiors.

She was touched by Esther suggesting. She might have stepped up to the roll were it not for her duties as a doctor. However:

“As our medic I cannot also be the leader, because if someone is hurt I will be unable to help them and have suitable battlefield awareness to give orders simultaneously. If I am second in command and the leader gets hurt the same problems apply.”

At this rate it looked like they were in relative agreement with the idea of Gradon being in charge being a good idea. Most of the other sane options either did not want to apply or where not well know enough to be evaluated by the original group. Unfortunately Gradon himself didn’t appear to be up to the burden of leadership just yet and recommended Iris lead and he serve as her second in command. It irked her a little that this was taken as the final decision by the princess however. That hadn’t exactly been a vote.

There wasn’t enough time to voice her concern however as the rocs announced their presence and swooped towards the group. She could definitely see why setting up settlements up here was impossible, even with Vessel she did not think their odds of surviving this unharmed where high.

One of the cadets who had joined them with the princess seemed to have her head squarely on her shoulders at least, yelling for them to get to cover. While those with pole mounted weapons might be able to fend the beasts off she worried that those with shorter blades would have a lot of difficulty. She added to the girls shout:

“Get inside or they’ll just carry you off into the sky!”

Lacking any orders from their actual leaders she hurried after the person she believed was known as Regina into the relative safety of the housing. She watched as Regina unveiled some kind of rifle as her Vessel, heading upstairs to snipe the birds. Judging by the wind blasts coming from another building Esther had had a similar idea.

Althea meanwhile needed a it more space to take her shots and so stuck near the ruined entryway to Regina’s building. She channeled manus, green lines of power circling the gem on the back of her hand, weaving their away up her fingers and flowing into her palm. All this magic resulted in a vial of mercury forming in her hand. She wasn't going to use acid or gas this time, as there was the danger of it coming down on her comrades, instead she was going to take the old idiom about birds and stones a bit literally. Only it was a vile of mercury weighing about the same as brick being used instead of rocks and the birds were the size of elephants. She probably wasn’t going to take down two with a single throw.

Her projectile compleat she ducked out the door, took aim and hurled the vile like a baseball pitcher at the closest bird before ducking back inside and prepping a second vial. 5 seconds later she popped out and threw another. She kept doing this as long as she wasn’t attacked. Some missed, some thumped into the bird’s torsos, causing minor annoyance at best, but some managed to thump into a wing, breaking the shafts of the enormous feathers with their impacts. The Rocs didn't exactly fall from the sky as a result, but the ones hit where slower and wobblier in their flight than the others.
my apologies, I kept putting this off to do other posts. I really should not have let that keep happening for 22 days.
Naija

day/time: day 2
Location: Smash Arena
Interacting with: @Holy Soldier Lux

Naija was perhaps not as dismayed as everyone else, as the smoking body of the swordsman hit the floor, but she was feeling rather guilty by how overboard she had gone.

”oh oops. In my defense, the big ones generally take more of a beating before they go down. Um. sorry?”

Generally they weren't people either, they were just monsters or things that had once been people. Guilt and embarrassment welled up inside her, but she put them aside when the blond haired woman stepped into the arena, full of confidence. After what Naija had done to her partner, such a display was unnerving to say the least.

Naija's suspicions that this woman had more to her than her appearance implied were confirmed when she threw out a large glowing sphere of some kind. She reflexively dodged out of the way, but the orb simply settled in the center of the arena, growing slowly in a menacing fashion.

”So is that just going to sit there?”

She guessed it was probably going to explode, but being in the center wouldn’t it hit her too? Perhaps she had some way of avoiding the damage, so the safest place was right where she was.

She began to move, skirting the outside of the arena with her nimble leaps in order to stay as far away from that glowing orb as possible, not slowing to open fire and instead charging another 6 shot blast. If she made it to the same edge as Lux she would move towards her erratically, hoping to dodge whatever else she had up her sleeves, before jumping high into the air to do the required flip to let out the charged attack to it’s maximum potential. She soared over the girl, letting out her blast above her, then landed behind her and quickly spun round in her crouched with an attempted spin kick to the shins, intending to knock her over.

In all seriousness, I may have made Sophia come of as way to naive in my attempt to avoid meta gaming, so thanks for giving me an out.

Though Phoebe seemed to be to busy to answer her query some others seemed to be willing to give recommendations, namely the green woman and the giant of a human. She graciously accepted the woman’s drink suggestion, taking the glass in her hand.

”I won’t be able to compare it to human rum, but cheers for the suggestion”

Then, perhaps to the confusion of the others, she retrieved a small salt grinder and added a few turns of salt to the drink, after which a straw extended from her helmet. While she mixed the drink with the straw she replied to the giant of a man.

”If it that makes a big man like yourself drunk it might be a bit much for someone my size to be drinking before a meeting. I’ll keep it in mind for when it comes to celebrating with after our first hunt together though.”

Satisfied that the rum was suitably salinated to prevent overhydration the other end of the straw extended inside her helmet to her lips, whereupon she began daintily sipping at the drink. In hindsight maybe she shouldn’t be drinking raw rum before a meeting either, but it was still pretty tasty even taken slowly. She gave the woman a grin and a thumbs up to her suggestion.

At that point they were all called inside for the briefing. Rather than try and use the biped shaped chairs she simply found somewhere around the table to stand, lowering herself down so she could rest her drink and elbows on the table, resting her hands on the bottom of her domed helm. This did mean her tail was kind of sticking out of the ring of chairs, something she did not realize might be a little inconvenient for the others.

After the briefing she was, she had to admit, a little disappointed that they weren't going to be specifically hunting anything this time but she was looking forward to the prospect of exploring and the capturing of samples would give her practice with her newly acquired dart gun.

She was thinking about what else she might want to get from the armory and how to pick a fight with a predator so he would atleast get some meat out of this expedition when a combat droid and a small creature who was hungrily eyeing a small paper bag the robot was carrying. The pair introduced themselves as Elektro and Pisq.

”Nice to meet you both, I’m Arra”

She waved as she gave them, and everyone else, her name.

To her surprise, the man was to be found exiting the very building she had landed on, drinking some apple juice out of a little carton. He offered her one as well. The taste of burnt bug meat still lingered in her mouth, she would most certainly wanted something that could get rid of it.

"I’d appreciate that."

He was not what she had expected from an assassin, with his spiky haircut and eye catching gold, silver and blue getup he was not going to have an easy time blending in anywhere. He was armed with what looked like a gold painted revolver and an odd contraption that might have been a sword. She wasn't sure. Again, not what she would have expected from an assassin. Maybe that word had different connotations where he came from?

She had some respect for his use of gold coloration, but other than that he looked like some punk asshole. Still, barring obvious Xenos or chaos affiliation, it would not do to judge a human by their appearance and so she jumped down to meet him face to face, her power armor reducing the impact of jumping of a small shack to nothing. She wasn’t entirely sure how you actually went about inducting someone, that was generally the priests’ job after all, so she decided simply to be cordial.

She removed her helmet and held it with her disgusting centipede arm while raising her right, human arm, towards him in order to formalism their cooperation with a simple handshake.

"All in due time my new friend, but first we have to get out of this blasted forest."

Of course it was because of monsters, she thought to herself in resignation. This trip was getting more and more dangerous with each passing second. She would need to prepare.

Finishing her supper quickly she then bid her goodbyes to those still at the table and, after a quick stop at the pharmacist's boutique, headed for the room she was staying in. There she began to prepare a powerful sedative from the ingredients she had purchased. They were supposed to bring the thing back alive, and injecting the serum she had made into it would hopefully knock it out cold. Of course, that relied upon getting the beast in a position to be injected with the stuff without it ripping her head of. She also hoped that it wasn’t bigger than a bear, because that is the upper limit of concentration she could make with what she had. Anything bigger might get drowsy but would fail to be knocked out.

The tranquilizer prepared and carefully stored in her bag she got into bed for some much needed rest.

While they were all getting up and ready the next day she checked in on Gradon. As they were leaving the inn she found her way to his side briefly and asked

“How’s your head feeling today?”

The next day’s events brought the previous night's conversation about leaving it to the adults back to the forefront again, with the Princesses suggestion of putting the leadership of the group to a vote. She wondered if they should they give authority to someone they trusted and knew better than the princess than Ires or should they leave command with the person who knew the most about what was going on.

She had to agree with Farris on her assessment of who would be most suited among the cadets, though for completely different reasons, Gradon had rallied a lot of the cadets into an organised defence during the attack yesterday. It kind of depended on whether he was up to the task after his repeated head injuries of the previous day. The other options, in her opinion, where Leon and Tzi because she either did not trust the others to be in charge due either to finding them scary or inexperienced, or she simply didn’t know them well enough to make an assessment. It would probably be prudent to find out who was actually interested in the position however. Continuing Farris’s trend of thinking out loud she commented.

“It might be a good idea to find out who actually wants to lead before voting. Also I’m not sure if a monster is going to be smart enough to take out our command structure like that. If it does it might be wise to have a second in command as a backup for if the leader gets injured.”

In regards to Tzi’s question she answered more directly with

“I think we should set up camp first and vote second. Gives us some time to think about who to vote for or whether we want that position ourselves.”

Also having a nice fire to sit around sounded like a lovely thing to have after their long march.
