Mali just relaxed as best as she could (not the easiest task for her) and let Wayne work. He knew way more about this than she ever would, so she wouldn't try being helpful or anything cute like that. With these types of things, trying to help only made things take longer or created mistakes where there wouldn't normally be any. The deep subconscious dredged up a long forgotten memory of her mother cutting off more hair than expected due a sudden fidget, resulting in her having to have the rest sheared so everything would be evened out. For weeks after that all the kids in her class said she looked like a boy. In hindsight, maybe that moment had a bigger impact on the course of her life than it appeared at the time.

When it was time to move stations again, Mali grabbed as much hair below the neckline as she could fit in her fist and loosely held it off when she moved to the throne as Wayne put it. She didn't want any of the leftover water to soak into the robe and be a slight irritant for the next 10 minutes. Yes, it was something incredibly minor, but incredibly minor things tended to poke the edges of your mind the hardest. Like when you put on a sock rotated slightly too far to the right so that the heel was place slightly off-center and your toes were squished together as a very slight angle. Trying to go on with the rest of your day with your sock on like that would be madness, so you took off that sock and put it back on again. Same principle.
And done.

Combat over?

So this time there were only two of the tin can bastards to deal with, unless there were more hiding out of sight. Not an event that'd be all that likely considering their lack of any sort of grace or dexterity, but something like that couldn't be entirely ruled out. The boy actually did something useful for once and fried one of the undead on the spot. At first Nor was content with sitting back and letting the wild animal and the bear take care of the second undead, but then he noticed that the big guy was stuck in one place. Maybe he accidentally activated some hidden paralyzation trap. Mages were tricky like that.

Being the closest to the bag of bones, the task of putting the dead thing to rest fell to him. Twirling his knife into a reverse grip he took a large step forward and plunged the blade down into one of the newly widened gaps of the armor. The lack of any real resistance as the blade slid in to the base was a sign that he picked a good spot, free of any pesky bones to stop the weapon prematurely. And like that, the undead collapsed like an unstable tunnel.

Nor planted his foot on the collapsed body, and with a single, full body heave freed his knife from the cadaver, ready to stab once again. If he needed to of course.

The real tricky part about traversing the tower was figuring out how to climb the stairs as a bear. The paws were too big to fit on the steps properly and claws got in the way; however, black bears were natural climbers and with some brain racking, she made her way to the top without taking too much time to do so. Oh yeah, and there were also more animated armors waiting for them at the top: right next to her in fact was one.

Cyne completely expected there to be something much scarier further in. The last battle went similarly as this one, starting out with simple foes, and then suddenly exploding skeletons everywhere and then that weird blood mist thing. This was likely the necromancer's house so she didn't expect that again, but certainly something far more deadly yet to be seen.

The bear galloped forward and swung at the armor with its large paw, forcing it to take a few steps back, bearly able to keep itself upright. That it even managed that much was pretty impressive. Many people wouldn't be able to remain moving after taking a direct blow from a bear. That said, she fully expected it to be finished off by the next person to make a move, probably Keystone.

A lot of nothing to go on so far, but that was alright. You learn real quick in law enforcement that a stake-out is 99% boredom, 1% useful information. So he'd wait longer and occasionally glance over in their direction to make sure they were in the same place. From the sound of it, they might be about to relocate. Wouldn't want to end up alone on the lake front.

Idly, he still wrote down what they had said in abbreviated form if for no reason but simply posterity and as fuel for a quick down and dirty psych profile:
  • I can handle Cloud Nine if you're with me. (sexual tension)
  • I could be the Wolf of Red Lake (joke)
  • Get a room (different speaker)
  • We should stick together.
All very interesting stuff that would no doubt be vital to his solving the case of where the hell Riley('s body) is. All he could do was hope that he could get something eventually before they ended up dispersing to go off and do whatever it is that high school teenagers did these days. Which was probably what they did back then: smoke weed and hook up behind their parents' backs.

Wayne's constant comparisons to divinity were really starting to make Mali uncomfortable. Once or twice she could brush off, near-constant use was like jabbing safety pins into her self-image. She liked attention as much as the next girl, and it would be crazy to say no to a compliment, but there was a certain point where it just got too far. Maybe his normal customers liked having their egos inflated such a ridiculous degree. Or maybe it was just in Wayne's nature to go overboard with everything, including compliments. Considering his everything else that might be the case. The source of his egregious nature aside, he seemed to have everything involving hair under control, so there was no need to worry there.

"I probably don't take good enough care of my hair. Getting rid of the split ends would be for the best," Mali admitted, as she leaned back into the wash station seat, as internally she pushed the awkward feeling from the compliments down with the earlier discomfort of having to treat employees as things rather than people. Hopefully she wouldn't run out of space to cram all those emotions by the end of the time it'd be important: the party later that night.

The first thing that registered was that the damned thing didn't die from the first stab, which was expected. When go hilt-deep in a body there's generally a 50/50 chance that they just drop immediately, otherwise they keep going. With undead that balance shifted even further towards not going down immediately. The next thing that registered was that it had grabbed his hair, what little there was to grab. Well no matter, they were going to the same place within the next instant. Nor yanked his knife from the body of the undead and with a heave moved the undead from upright but off-balance to lying face up on the ground.

Nor planted his palm squarely on the chest and raised the knife high up, switching the grip to the so-called ice pick style. These buggers had a habit of not staying down the first time, so he did his best to make sure that wouldn't be a viable option. The first stab went to the windpipe. Then one for each eye. Then behind the clavicle. Then a few under the chin for good measure. After the first stab he felt any remaining resistance disappear, but his goal was complete incapacitation.

Now sufficiently bloodied, the dwarf rose from his kneeling position, and looked around at the rest of the group twirling his blade idly between grips.

"No use waitin' around on me, aye? Let's get movin'." His word said, the barber trotted along to the base of the staircase.

Mali hadn't really thought about anything she would specifically want for this shopping spree despite having plenty of time to do so, and it was just now beginning to dawn on her that was a mistake on her part. Next time she had a free moment, she'd try giving some pre-thought (was that a word?) on this things so she wouldn't be caught off-guard by things she could have seen coming. Right now it might just be clothes and hairstyle, but if this behavior repeated, it could end up being something more serious down the line. Her mind conjured up some brief image of giving the wrong answer and being shot for her trouble. It took her a second of solid willpower to not shudder out of place in the middle of a spa. The serious stuff will come later. Right now just focus on relaxing and getting pretty.

"We're going to a high class party this evening, very political. So I was thinking of something elegant, but commanding. Like 'I'm not a brute, but I won't be taken advantage of.' I prefer to stay natural as far as color goes. Think you can work with that?" As the words came out of her mouth, she was smacking herself internally for how dumb and lame she sounded. You're supposed to be trying to come off like you belong, not like some air-headed valley girl who can't distinguish from there, they're and their. That aside, she wasn't sure how much he'd be able to do, her hair wasn't all that long. It went down the the bottom of her neck at its longest, which definitely limited his options. Maybe she could get some extensions put in if it became an issue.

At the lakefront he didn't really pay Abraham's car much mind; there were people at the lake constantly. He didn't know who the car belonged to, so the fact that there was more than one car didn't strike him as unusual. If he were to start snooping through every car he happened to come across, not only would he have no time, he'd probably end up being arrested by rightfully concerned car owners.

Now the group of teenagers he came across, that was a different story. He didn't know why they were here, or even if they knew Riley, but they seemed like a good target for something of a stake-out. He tried to position himself far enough away from them that they wouldn't pay attention, but still within earshot. He wouldn't look at them, but try to look him he was busy with a business call (phone held between his shoulder and his ear so his hands would remain free). And he would just listen. Listen and take notes. See what he could learn just from paying attention. He could ask them about Riley later.
