Talking down the kid was proving to be as difficult as Mari had feared it was going to be. For all her sweet-talking, the kid still hadn't said anything and was only expressing some wary curiosity. Though Mari figured that the latter was only due to the fact that she wasn't human. With the motion behind her, the kid's eyes snapped to the new arrival.
"You said you need a blanket, Dame Verenna?" Fleuri asked as he put down his sword and helmet, then unclasped and removed his white cape, which had remarkably remained unstained throughout the battle. "Here, will this do?"
Taking the offered garment, Mari nods. "Yes. this should serve the purpose nicely. Thank you, Sir... Jodeau." The Naga says taking a moment to recall the name of her fellow knight. Folding up the cape, Mari slowly reaches into the cage and carefully deposits it halfway between her and the kid before pulling back. "Go on. wrap yourself up." She says, gesturing to the cape. "You must be freezing with only that tunic to keep you warm."
Something close to a rational look flickers through the kid's eyes as they glance between Mari and the cape before snatching it up. Burying themselves in the cape, the kid pokes their head out, warily watching the two knights with a feral sort of curiosity. At the sight, Mari resists cracking a grin. If it weren't for the circumstances, the scene would be almost amusing; a serious faced kid holding a knife while bundled up in a knight's cape. "Finally. Some progress. If you aren't going to try and stab me, I don't need all this armor anymore." The Naga says, unbuckling and removing her plate armor and chain mail.
One tank and beat stick close to being finished. Just needs a the final touches. I'll aim to finish this in the morning once I have some much needed sleep.
Name: Quintus Arcavius
Age: Old. (He stopped counting at 200)
Sex: "Male"
Position within The Imperium of Man: Astartes Deathwatch Blackshield
Appearance: Quintus, like most astartes, stands at 7' 3". (7' 6" in power armor)
Armor: Quintus has two suits of armor: An ancient suit of mark-5 heresy era power armor and a "modern" suit of Astartes scout carapace armor. Both are painted in somber black and grays. The only iconography on the carapace armor is a dull metallic Imperial Aquila, but the power armor also bares the mark of the inquisition.
Weapons: As a member of Deathwatch, Quintus has access to a wide range specialized Astartes weapons. He stores all this in a small personal armory wherever he currently has as his base of operations. (currently aboard the Typhon) The armory contains the following weapons: An infernus heavy bolter; a power gladius; a heavy thunder hammer; frag, krak & smoke grenades (20 of each); Hunter's Wrath~ a combi stalker bolt gun / deathwatch shotgun; and Sunfury~ a combi hand flamer / melta pistol.
Equipment: - Auspex: A classic imperial multi-spectrum scanning device. Also serves as an audio recorder. - A sleeveless hooded capelet longcoat hybrid. Quintus typically wears this over his scout armor when stealth and discretion are required over brute force. The coat is made of a durable brown synth-leather. - Storm shield: standard issue - Astartes Jump Pack: standard issue - Tactical Rigging: Can carry a plethora of ammo, the auspex, and up to 6 grenades. - Badge of the Inquisition: Quintus typically carries this when in his scout armor. - Rebreather: The NBC oxygen filter from an Astartes power armor helmet, worn with the scout armor.
Taking a brief moment to rest, Mari looks over the battlefield. With the fall of the bandit king, the battle was effectively over. The last pockets of resistance were either surrendering or in the process of dying. With a sigh, the Naga moved to corral the defeated bandits. The other knights could retrieve their own horses as the animals tended to spook if she got to close on her own.
"You can come out now, it's safe~ OW! Why in Reon's name did the kid try and stab me!?" "Probably because you're in full armor and covered in blood." A second voice replies with combat weary dryness. Catching the commotion, Mari leaves the bandits under the watch of another knight and moved around a surprisingly unburnt tent to investigate. Tucked into a corner, two knights were crouched in front of an opened cage. Inside a dirty, gaunt and wild-eyed kid had backed themselves into the far corner, a knife clutched tightly in both hands.
"More like they're starving, dehydrated and have suffered too much abuse to think clearly." Mari speaks up, taking off her sallet helmet. "I'll tend to this one. Fetch me food, drink and a blanket for the child and bring one of our carts around." One of the two knights gave the Naga a stink eye, but both of them moved off, leaving Mari and the kid alone. Settling down in fromt of the cage, She offers the kid a closed-lip smile, no need to spook them with a mouth full of pointed teeth. "Hello there, my name's Mari, what's yours?" She asks softly, feral silence and a shifting gaze the only response. Sighing inwardly, the Naga continues talking softly to the kid. This was going to take some work.
Appearance: At 6' with an average but tightly well-muscled build, short very dark hair and hazel eyes, Kazuo is half Japanese, half Russian. The young man opts to wear simple dress clothes; a white button-up, black vest, tie, boots and pants. Kazuo also has a couple of overcoats for varying weather conditions. For more strenuous activities, Kazuo goes for a black double breasted military jacket over a white tee shirt, more athletic pants and black combat boots.
Personality: Kazuo does his best to maintain a polite and friendly mask to cover up his more ruthless intellectual side. Despite the emotional void his jaded worldview has left him with, Kazou still has heart. His father instilled a strong sense of justice into him and as such, Kazuo has no patience for bullies or anyone else who abuses power to exploit those weaker than them.
Backstory: Kazuo's parents met while doing humanitarian work for the U.N., his mother, Hoshi Hayakawa, a doctor and his father, Alexander Aleinikov, a marine escort. When they had Kazuo, they moved to his father's hometown in Russia, Alexander getting a job with the local police and Hoshi continuing to work as a doctor in a nearby hospital. Both of them aiming to continue their work in service to others while still raising a kid.
Everything went well for years, but Alexander was ultimately too good at his job. Eventually, he managed to take down a major member of the Russian Mafia. Two weeks later, Alexander was killed in a car accident and Hoshi who was riding in the passenger seat was badly injured. Kazuo was 12 at the time. At the funeral, Alexander's partner from the force quietly pulled Kazuo aside and told him what he had suspected to be the truth; the "accident" had been a hit by the Russian Mafia.
Once Hoshi recovered enough to travel, she went back to Japan with Kazuo and moved in with her grandparents. The hole Alexander's death left in Kazuo's life was patched over with a harsh understanding of the world. That with enough power, be it physical, social or economic, the rules of the world mean nothing. And while his father had meant well, his insistence on playing by the rules is what got him killed. If Kazuo ever wanted avenge his father's death or continue in his footsteps, he'd need power; and what beter place to start than one of the top combat schools?
Inherent Engine Skill:Wings kazou's IE generates a pair of avian wings out of his upper back. At full extension, they give him a seventeen foot wingspan. Aside from the obvious power of flight, they can also serve to block incoming attacks or cushion Kazou's impact into something. That said, they can only take a couple of solid hits or several minor ones before the energy matrix forming them collapses. If destroyed, the wings take about an hour's recharge before they can be formed again.
Active Engine Device:
A modern take on the classic Mage Revolver. Capable of some basic form-shifting, the Mage Gun carries a total of six "spell rounds" that can be swapped out as needed depending on the situation. While each of the rounds are individually weaker than an AE purpose built for the specific role, the Mage Gun makes up for this by being able to rapidly switch between loaded rounds and the staggering versatility of it's arsenal. Kazuo generally has his gun loaded with the following. - Bolt: Bolt fires high-speed a pulse of super-condensed mana like bullet. An optional sub-setting extends a stock out of the pistol grip and a scope out of the top of the pistol for longer range engagements. Kazuo currently has his set to stun/non-lethal for obvious reasons. - Blast: Also called scatter-blast, this turns the gun into a pistol shotgun in a similar manner to Bolt. Scatter-blast suffers from horribly short range; it's most effective at under ten feet, and is next to useless beyond thirty. Is also currently set to stun/non-lethal. - Blade: Extends a blade of focused mana out of the gun. Has two settings, saber and great sword. Saber generates a 2.5 foot single-edged blade. Great sword straightens & extends the grip to 1.5 feet and generates a 3.5 foot double edged blade. - Impulse: Generates a directed blast of concussive energy. Has two modes, burst and charge. Burst fires a stream of energy as long as the trigger is held down, for up to five seconds. Charge builds up a more powerful blast of energy that is released when the trigger is; charge maxes out at five seconds. When fired against a static object at point blank (5ft or less), Impulse will push the wielder back with equal and opposite force. - Line: Generates a grappling line or a whip. - Portal: It's just a portal gun. That said, the portals will remain open even if the gun is switched to another spell, but the portals can only be closed on command if it's the active spell. Anything between the two portals when one is closed will be launched out of the other one.
Skills: - Fluent in both Russian & Japanese and has half-decent English. - Driver's license - Has learned the basics of mechanics and engineering in order to be able to do basic maintenance on his Mana Engines.
Rank:
Club:Martial Arts Kazuo's weakest point in a fight is melee, specifically unarmed. In order to make up for this, He joined the Martial Arts club in order to diversify his skill set as much as possible.
ALSO: While I'd really like to join in on this, I'm not entirely sure if I've got the time. As such, if Kaz' is accepted, I'll be waiting a week or two before posting to make sure I'm not overextending myself.
Going to bow out as I'm currently lacking a good idea for this. That said, I'll certainly be reading along. Greatly looking forward to watching the craziness unfold.
Query: Would it be possible to possess multiple AE Devices?
Was planning on my character possessing a few that he can switch between (mid-fight as needed). But obviously wouldn't be able to power more than one at time.
