Cassandra and Salem exchanged a few more blows, the former instructing the latter on form, but he was getting the basics quickly enough.

The class ended with a surprising bang, as a mage was thrown across the arena. Not a just a mage, it was Lilie! Cassandra took a step to move around Salem, who she had momentarily forgotten about. She had no idea what she was doing, she saw who had done the throwing, it was an Astorio Count who looked vaguely familiar. Her hands were in fists, and she could smell burning fabric before she was aware that her fire was coming to the surface.

And then she saw stars. Salem, who's back was to the scene, didn't realize anything other than training was happening, and had punched Cassandra in the jaw. She staggered sideways, and fell down hard on her bottom.

By now their instructor had responded to the situation, and everything looked like it was under control. The class was called to an end while Cassandra sat on the cold stone ground.

She got to her feet, feeling strange. She wasn't sure why that scene had upset her so much. It recalled the arrest from the night before. And the perpetrator only reminded her again of her blessedly short time with Dominique.

Cassandra clapped Salem on the arm, and started toward the gear rack.

"I'ma go see if she's alright."

Cassandra approached at a jog as Aaron rushed away with some kind of urgency.

"Hey! You alright? That looked pretty bad."

Character Name: Erevan

Appearance

A tall elf man, red haired and well built. His body is scarred in many places, and bears tattoos to commemorate victories, losses, and fallen comrades. His left arm has several rings of elvish lettering, those who can read it would recognize them as names.
Though roughened from hard conflict, his slim hands still show a nimble grace.
Though clothing depends on the situation, his most ubiquitous garb will always be his armor. A brigandine of green dyed leather. It is composed of four long, overlapping leather panels. They wrap around his back and fasten in the front, where they curve upward, so that they form a series of V shapes where they meet.
A leather skirt of similar construction hangs down, but only covers the front of his thighs.
The top panel has a pair of pauldrons. A high collar of steel wraps around the back of the neck and is fastened to both leather and pauldrons by leather straps.
There are steel plates hidden under the leather, but evidenced by bronze studs that hold them in place.
Under this is gray cloth armor, with short sleeves and chainmail in the under arms.
He has high leather boots with steel plates at the shins, and green leather bracers.

Racial/Ethnic Background: Elven Kingslander, speaks common and low elvish.

Habits: Dinks and smokes, but doesn't like to do so alone. Keeps a journal in an esoteric elvish shorthand that no one else seems able to read. Weaves flower crowns and chains when bored at camp. Sings incessantly. Paints local flowers on the front of his shield, when he has time.

Armor: A brigantine of green dyed leather, with shining bronze studs at the corners of the steel plates that are under the leather (B 40% / S 50% / P 40%). A round shield, wooden with a steel rim (medium shield 5+ save).

Special Rules:

Unification War Veteran - You've seen the worst in men. You understand better than any other why no king rules over the Noble Families. You watched as villages were razed and long lines of men clad in armor marched against each other. The sound of heavy armor-clad cavalry charging your position is still clear in your ears at night. It is nearly a century and a half and you can perfectly recall the final clash of would-be rulers... and the dead that littered the fertile fields of your home. Corpse fires were a common sight during these years, for any body left intact could eventually lead to an undead plague. You have seen the worst in the most noble of men; you are still waiting to see the best in them.

Shield Proficiency - You are trained to handle a medium or heavy shield without becoming encumbered.

Heavy Armor Proficiency - You are trained and conditioned to wear heavy armor without becoming encumbered.

Journeyman Jeweler - In a past life, you created works of art for the nobles to wear.

Apprentice Weaponsmith - You have some skill with making weapons, however, you have much more to learn.

A Fantasy Adventure Focusing on Story and Backed by a Dash of Dice

@One Who Tames As others say, Casual is probably the most active board. Tabletop in particular is honestly quite empty.

I've done games with dice here in casual before, and while I agree that it can put some people off, I think for most people if they like the game they'll play either way.

So what are your preferenes and/or expectations as far as post length go? That sort of thing can be a killer to me. I'm personally in the camp of "writing only what you need to." Particularly when characters are interacting.

Lemme preemptively defend myself here.

Say Mary and Jane are arguing in the kitchen. Mary starts her post saying that as they argue, she starts to wash her dishes(angrily), and then ends the post with her putting the dishes away(angrily).

Well then here comes Jane's turn to post. Jane doesn't like it when Mary just keeps on doing things while they argue. She feels like she's being ignored. Jane wants to, as soon as Mary starts washing, grab a plate and smash it on the ground.

Now we have a problem. There are two options here:

A) Mary has to re-write most of her post because Jane's post derailed her sequence of events.

B) Jane doesn't get to break the plate, because Mary's post didn't allow her time to react to what was happening in the world.

Neither solution is fair, but if we had a shorter post in the first place we could avoid this. Instead, Mary gives her reply, and then the post ends with her starting to wash the dishes. Jane's can include her grabbing a plate and smashing it, but she also makes a post that allows for a reaction to this(as opposed to speaking an entire paragraph while smashing every single plate, which also would not be a reasonable thing to do uninterrupted).

Sorry to go off the end with that. From what I've read so far we're pretty well on the same page as far as play style goes, so I just want to make sure I'm understood about this as well.

I'd do this one with you. Some questions.

Are you also going to play multiple characters(I assume that by that you mean like a supporting cast etc) or would you only be playing the one?

Do you already have any world in mind? Particularly you mention the main character's family and home town/village.

What works do you get inspiration from?

How Saturated is the Market for Fantasy Adventures?

- Of course, as the title said, how saturated is the market here? Is there "fantasy fatigue" or are people not as interested in a gritty adventure?

Theres a lot of people here, I don't think anyone has a clear cut breakdown of demographics as far as genre preferences go. You just gotta put your interest check out and see if people like the game.

- Would anybody enjoy a combination of free-form and dice in their story-driven adventure?

Yes, so much I would. I've tried to do it a couple times, but have never really had anyone bite. There is a tabletop section, if you haven't looked there, but it's mostly specific systems like DnD a d pathfinder. I reckon you're looking for more of a hybrid.

- Would you join a RP knowing there is a strong likelihood that you will end up going through a few characters due to deaths?

I've been waiting for an RP to kill one of my characters.

- How much grounding, consistency and "realism" do you like in your fantasy settings?

I hate seeing people wielding six foot long swords, and boobplate armor and that kind of thing.
I want magic to be consistent and reasonably well defined.

- Could you bring yourself to play a (mostly) normal person in a land where magic exists?

Totally.

- Did you like Game of Thrones but think to yourself, "Gosh, I wish more people ended up dying".

- Is Final Fantasy Tactics the best Final Fantasy?
