Honestly, I don't get the grief given to SAO when there's stuff like Mushoku Tensei where the MC actively lusts for underaged girls. And it's the most popular isekai in Japan.

Also, it's kinda annoying going back and forth writing short replies since I got other stuff to do and that just interrupts my rythm.

"Chopsticks... I suppose I can try to learn."

If she were to be honest, she didn't see why one would use such a cumbersome tool to eat. Spoon and fork were far superior, though of course, out of politeness, she wouldn't say that to him.

"By the way, tell your friends too that I'll be happy to help this 'Kyouko's Taskforce'."

"Thank you." She gave him a small, quiet smile. "I'll make sure to tell them that."

As Takeshi tried to teach her on how to use his utensil, he would find that she was terribly clumsy at it. She would keep dropping whatever food she tried to lift with her sticks, to her great and utmost annoyance. Not to mention the way she held the sticks. It was enough to make any natives of the island laugh. Or cringe.

"Well met you two!" He began. "I see your mission was a success. Here at the temple, we ran into some…complications but things have worked themselves out."

"Glad to hear that," Lunatea replied once she descended from her horse. "Our mission went quite smoothly as well."

Looking them over, he noticed their clothes were rather battered. "I hope things didn't get too hectic out there, you guys look pretty winded!" He said, realizing they'll probably notice the bloodied tear on his clothes.

"Well, we did end up in a fight with the Varjans. And it was quite a difficult fight, owing to the fact that they had a warlock on their side."

"And I see that you were in a fight yourself," she continued, eyeing his clothes. "You should take a rest."

"New members?" She raised her eyebrows. "I suppose we could use reinforcements... though I wonder why they arrived here so late."

It didn't take long for Lunatea to find the napping spot she desired. A great and thick tree that provided ample shade as well as gentle wind that blew to provide cooling to her skin. And the best part was that it was far enough from the refugees that she wouldn't be disturbed by their noises.

Still, on her way there, she couldn't help but to overhear on a certain conversation a pair of villagers were having.

Serek'uar, huh? I'll keep that in mind.

Arriving at the tree, she sat down, resting her back on the thick trunk, before closing her eyes.

-

When she opened them back, it was already nighttime.

And Takeshi was standing in front of her, with a warm rice bowl in his hand.

"Oh. Hello. And good night, I suppose."

She readily took the rice bowl off his hand.

"Yes, that is unfortunate," she replied matter-of-factly. "They simply fear what they don't understand."

She took a bite off the rice. With her hand. She didn't know how to use chopsticks.

"Thank you. For the meal. It's delicious."

Now that they had decided on returning to the temple, Lunatea readied herself for the journey. She saw them climbing their horses; a typical thing humans did whenever they wanted to travel fast. Some monsters had no need of horses as they could run just as fast, or even faster, than the beast of burden. However, she was no such monster. She could probably keep up with them for a minute or two but her stamina would quickly give and she would fall behind. After all, she was a scholar. She never really exercised her body to possess stamina akin to an oni.

She was about to open her mouth to complain about her lack of means of travel before Takeshi invited her on top of his. This naturally took the monster girl by surprise. Was he serious? He knew his lover was right there. Why would he invite another girl to ride with him? She could easily imagine all the things she could do to tease him.

And then, he gave his reasoning. It was to repay the life debt he had incurred from her saving him.

Silly human.

“Well, if you insist,” she replied. “Hope you don’t regret this later.”

She didn’t need his help on climbing the beast. She simply jumped on top of the horse, her skirt fluttering in the process, flashing all the men that were there. And when she sat down, the dress had ridden up, showing off her black panties and bunny tail shamelessly to anyone who rode behind her.

On the road, the bunny girl listened to the conversation between Takeshi and Kikyo. From it, she learned how the Varjans demanded tithe on behalf of the Order before the invasion.

She scoffed. She always believed the Order to be a misguided organization, or an evil one at their worst. This revelation only added another reason why she thought that way.

Arriving at Terauchi Temple, they were given a hero’s welcome. The refugees all cheered for Takeshi and Kikyo, lighting up their candle of hope that the invaders would soon be driven out of the island.

Not for her though. Nope. She was a monster after all.

Lunatea accepted Takeshi’s help on dismounting their horse (even though she didn’t really need it). Her skirt once again fluttered on her way to the ground, flashing the young man for a microsecond.

“Don’t mention it.” She folded her hands below her chest when she replied to his words. “I am not some gloryhound that seeks praise and affirmation from others. I’m helping you because it’s the right thing to do.”

“Hmm, since you insisted on us resting, I think I might just take a nap somewhere. You can wake me up once it’s time to eat.”

As if to emphasize her declaration, she let out a yawn, covering her mouth with one hand and stretching her arm with the other.

“You should take a rest too, Takeshi. Prepare yourself for what comes next. I’m sure we still have a lot of fights ahead of us.”

With those words, she left the swordsman, making her way into the temple building. Now the big question would be whether she could find a secluded spot she could use for said nap.

Lunatea paused, placing one hand on her chin as she tilted her head.

“...You have a point. We certainly can take a break first before we move to our next objective. And I certainly am not dumb enough to do it alone.”

If she were to be truthful, she would prefer not to spend any more time with this Kikyo character. But alas, it seemed she had no choice in the matter. She would just have to accompany her to the temple and bear any hostilities she might show towards her on the way.
@PaulHaynek
The Oja retainer turned to her master in disbelief. "Takeshi-sama! You can't be serious!" Kikyo almost yelled. "To work together with the yokai... would be to insult our island and all those who came before us. To spit on the traditions that held our island for centuries. Please Takeshi, you must reconsider."

Lunatea rolled her eyes hearing her statement. Great. Yet another close-minded human.

Still, she held hope that at the very least, Takeshi would be able to defuse her hostility towards her. At least, up until she no longer saw her as an enemy she had to slay on the spot.

Kikyo was indecisive at first, but then closed her eyes and nodded in resignation. "I... I trust you, my lord. I shall follow you." And with that, even the archers hiding in the trees lowered their weapons.

And just like that, her hope was proven to be correct.

“Thank you very much for your magnanimity, Lady Kikyo.” She gave another bow. “I assure you, I shall not betray your expectations.”

It seemed the rabbit monster had opted not to reply to her comment regarding her skirt.

Afterwards, Lunatea suggested to Takeshi that they depart for the cemetery south of Terauchi Temple next. With Kikyo on their side, they could move on to their next target, which, if she were allowed to choose, would be Yurine, the Deathkeeper.

“I am simply more interested in her than the others,” the rabbit monster gave her justification.

Man, one of my first rps here. I remember having fun in it.
"We're not lovers." Takeshi futilely denied. "...at least, I haven't confessed properly yet."

“Then you should.” The rabbit monster replied with a stern look. “Human lives are short. What if one day you end up losing her?” As a monster, she couldn’t understand why some humans wouldn’t just marry and bed each other the moment they found their significant other. What were they waiting for?

"But you're right, they just ran into Varjans so they'll be on edge. They might react violently if they see you." Takeshi agreed with Lunatea. Closing his eyes to think of a simple way to convey that the rabbit yokai with him was an ally, he let out a deep sigh when he resigned to the only option he could take. "Alright, I'll take point... and you all stay close to me. Much closer than how we traveled previously. That way, Kikyo and her forces will not be hostile. At least, not immediately."

“Understood.” She nodded. “Then, I shall walk alongside you.”

Takeshi would find that the rabbit girl would stay just a tad too close to him for comfort as they followed the footsteps out of the destroyed village.

They followed a trail of blood and destruction left by Kikyo in the form of dead Varjan patrols who had the misfortune of running into them.

Lunatea wrinkled her nose at the corpses they found on the road. Such brutality never suited a peace-loving monster like her. Or any other monster, she imagined.

The trail took Takeshi and the taskforce into a thin forest obscured by dense fog. "I have a feeling we're getting close to them, stay alert."

“I don’t like this.” Lunatea commented once they entered the forest. “I can barely see a thing here. Even with my exceptional sight.”

“Still, it makes the perfect place for them to hide. I won’t be surprised if we get ambushed by them in the next five… maybe ten minutes,” she said matter-of-factly.

Entering the foggy forest, the group ventured a bit into the woods before Takeshi suddenly spread out his arms to block Lunatea.

The monster stopped in her tracks though not before having her breasts brush momentarily with his arms.

She glanced around, trying to see through the thick fog.

“They’re here, aren’t they?” She whispered.

And then, she saw them—the silhouettes blending with the trees. Bow-wielders. And they were all aiming their weapons towards them.

No. Not them. Her.

"...Takeshi?"

The voice grabbed her attention as well—her eyes immediately switching to the direction she heard it from.

So that’s her…

No wonder he’s fond of her… she’s beautiful…

She watched them share a hug in silence, not daring to make a move. She knew that the bowmen were still aiming their weapons at her.

And if the situation got worse… she had to be ready with her spells.

Just say that I’m with you, Takeshi… Don’t you dare forget…

Thankfully, he did remember.

But it wasn’t enough to dissuade her suspicion, it seemed.

“Well met, Kikyo-san.” She pressed her hands to the front of her dress and bowed. “My name is Lunatea Vern Farnsworth. As you might suspect, I am not native to this island. I came from the outside world under the invitation of Lady Kyouko, to help you and your people in your fight against the Varjans. So please, just because I am a youkai, or a monster—the term our people use on the outside—do not consider me your enemy. For I am your ally. And Takeshi-san can vouch for me on that matter.”

She tried to act as refined as she could, even using the honorifics the locals used.

Still, thanks to the fact that there were young human males fit to be her husband amongst the ambushers, her dress acted up anyways, flashing her tight panties and bum to them as she bowed.

Lunatea didn't know why Takeshi looked away when she healed herself. Hadn't she already told him that he could look as much as he wanted?

After they recovered from the fight, they continued their journey immediately, not wasting any time. For all they knew, the port could be under attack from the Varjans right now, since they just fought against a detachment of their forces.

As they made their way through the grasslands, Lunatea’s dress continued to flash her panties at every stray wind that blew their way. Though at this point, even Takeshi should already be used to the view. Lunatea herself had a serious look on her face, narrowing her eyes so she could catch the first glimpse of the port town at a distance. No thoughts on getting a mate crossed her mind.

When she saw the smoke rising in the distance, her heart sank. Were they too late? Had the Varjans already laid waste to the city?

And then, Takeshi bolted once again. She yelled to tell him to wait but it seemed that just like before, he really did not like listening to her.

She exchanged a short glance with her other companions before running after him—her skirt flashing her panties every step she took.

When she arrived, her heart sank even further.

The port city—it had been completely destroyed.

To her surprise, however, Takeshi didn’t let out a cry of despair. Instead, he was busy examining what remained of the place. Judging by all the corpses, and the terrible smell they were emitting, clearly a huge battle had occurred here.

Hearing his conclusion, she raised an eyebrow. “But if the Varjans lost, why does the city look like this?”

When she heard him say “Dear Kikyo”, she couldn't help rolling her eyes. She never liked public display of affection. Unless it was given to her, of course.

It didn't take long until they found the footprints leading back into the grasslands. "Hey, we can probably find your dear Kikyo by these footprints." She pointed them to him. "But you have to take the lead. Tell that lover of yours that we monsters mean no harm. I don't want to get arrows raining down on me just because they think I'm hostile."
“Oh… you’re fine.” Lunatea blinked. It seemed humans could be more durable than she had thought.

She let him stand up on his own, not wishing to injure his pride any further. When he wobbled a little, however, she grabbed his arms to keep him stable.

She gave him a stern yet concerned look. “Careful. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“And yes, I am fine. It hurts, being slammed like that with his spell, but it’s nothing my healing spell can’t take care of.”

The rabbit monster then lifted up her skirt, all the way upwards until her belly button was visible. The reddened skin there was an obvious mark of the warlock’s attack and she intended to take care of it before resuming their trip.

She then placed her other hand on said skin, chanting the words to cast her healing spell. Light covered her hand as slowly but surely the swelling receded away.

When she finished, the skin was back to its normal, brown state. She let her skirt fall, though it wasn’t long until a stray wind picked it up again.

“You’re welcome,” she replied to his thanks.

Tch! A shield?

Lunatea cursed under her breath. She wasn’t a powerful enough sorceress to conjure a spell that could pierce through it. She had to rely on him running out of mana. Thankfully, she could count on that happening since she scarcely used her own mana to cast her spells, relying more on her panties absorbing the mana from her surroundings.

Unfortunately, she did not anticipate the sudden shift in the warlock’s movement. All of a sudden, he thrusted his staff at her direction, sending a shockwave too large and fast for her to dodge. She tried to erect a shield but it was far too late.

“Aarghhh!”

She was sent flying, crashing into a tent behind her. If it weren’t for her monster biology, there was no doubt in her mind that she would have shattered a bone or two.

The tarp covered her entire body, obscuring her view from the rest of the fight. Not to mention her own closed eyelids as she was reeling from the pain of the attack.

It hurts… so this is what a real fight feels like…

When she recovered, the fight was already over. It seemed the Warlock had been slain by Takeshi and his sword.

So why was he laying down unconscious there?

She ran up to him and crouched down, shaking his body. “Hey. Can you hear me? You’re not dead, are you?” She then looked up at Nyla and asked, “What happened? Why did he collapse like this?”

Unfortunately, other than healing minor scrapes, she wasn’t that well-versed in the art. Still, she tried anyway, casting the strongest spell she knew to his body.

“Can you heal him?” She asked the Shoggoth again. “If so, don’t just stand there. Help me. And we should carry him to one of the tents so he could rest.”
