I'm having way too much fun with my Legend of Zelda Encylopedia. This is the game that got me into roleplaying so have a lot invested in it's lore and stories. Too bad can't have all the games too.

Francesca had spent most of the time while the ship was in for repairs to go shopping. It was both a way to have fun and a way to train her senses by haggling. A good haggling could tell you a lot about a species, a culture, and the individual themselves. Thanks to her mental talents she could also gauge if she was moving in the right or wrong direction when in negotiations with a seller. By the end of her shopping trip she had scored 4 new outfits, 3 types of cosmetics, and a variety of sweets to test what kind of tastes other species had. Needless to say not everything was compatible with a human palate.

Unfortunately her fun was cut short with a massive headache which forced her to return to the ship and sleep it off. Before long they were through the wormhole and into unknown territory.

It was quite the exciting first contact, though disappointing that she had had no chance to actually talk with or see the aliens for that matter. They were being led to the planet to see the Holy Vei. Her best guess was that the Holy Vei was a high religious figure of some kind, perhaps something like a high priest or even a Pope! It was strange how no one seemed willing to actually talk with them, other than to lead them to the Holy Vei and the brief initial contact, this seemed to indicate that the Holy Vei wanted to be the first one to properly converse with the visitors and that their followers had been forbidden to say more than necessary.

Francesca was about to share her thoughts with the captain and those present when Denise spoke up first. As an ambassador she remained completely composed as the individual rambled on about chakras and the like. At least she was very on board with the whole understanding and learning for a new culture part. Frankly Francesca didn't know what to think about her and was beginning to wonder if her volunteering would be a good idea, in the end it was the Captain's decision of course.

"From our brief interactions we can assume them to be a religious people but aside from that we have no knowledge. From their tone they must respect this Holy Vei quite adamantly and put great faith in her foresight. As we have no information I suggest that all members of the delegation to meet with her holiness dress in a conservative matter. It is much easier to dress down than to dress up if the need should arise after all. Plus, if they are rather conservative in nature we want to reduce any chance at offending them."

Francesca's advice was carefully reasoned out, though the reality of it was they were going in blind, still better to have everyone wearing similar attire then to have an odd one out who could offend them unknowningly.

"I will of course be with the delegation to meet with the Holy Vei; however, I do believe that you, captain, should be the one to initiate contact. Afterward you may relegate your duties of diplomacy to me. You were the first to talk with them so it is better to start with the first person they have spoken with as they will at least be slightly familiar with you."

Oliver Jonas Queen Billionaire/Vigilante/Martial Artist Starling City, California, USA Queen Industries Heir

C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T

"After surviving on an Island for five years, I've learned a few things. The most important lesson I learned is that anybody can make a Hell on earth. That's why I do what I do, to make sure that never happens here. This city is getting pretty close though...I have a LOT of work to do to save as many lives as possible."

Oliver Queen, the young heir of Queen Industries, was on a small yacht when it was sabotaged. Oliver Queen nearly drowned but somehow made it to the shore of a small island, Lian Yu in the North China Sea. He probably would have died if it were not for the help of a fellow inhabitant named Shado.

With Shado's help, Oliver Queen survived and even thrived as he learned survival skills, Kyudo [Archery], and used his intelligence and inventiveness to create weapons and tools from what was available nearby. It soon became apparent that the island was home to an illegal operation, to which Oliver responded with Guerilla tactics, and managed to secretly supply the forced laborers with weapons long enough to plan a revolt which resulted in the expulsion of the organization from the Island.

With the island free from control, eventually, Oliver managed to get the attention of a ship which lead to his rescue from the island along with the other island survivors. Shado departed ways with Oliver once she learned he planned to go back to Starling City to inherit his position as heir to Queen Industries so he would have the tools and backing necessary to do as much good as he could in the world and especially his hometown of Starling City.

I've liked Green Arrow since I saw him in the cartoons but I have to admit I never really cared for his looks that much. Then Arrow came along with a look more to my liking, especially without that atrocious goatee, so I've been considering a run with him for a while. I do think the arrowverse version is way too much batman-lite however, so I want to create something a little closer to the cartoons in character, but with some of the elements of Arrow as well.

Green Arrow is first and foremost, a man of the people, one who wants to help the poor and downtrodden as much as possible. While he loves to fight and root for the underdog he is also part of high society and knows that not everything is so black and white. His primary targets are those who exploit people, drug lords, sex-trafficking, and corporate corruption. Of course he also targets those who are a danger to the public, especially so called super-villains and the like, but his primary purpose is to make life better for others rather than bringing people to justice.

Tommy Merlin – Old friend of Oliver Queen who was with him during his party years. Still tries to remain friends with Oliver but finds him quite different from his younger days. He is a good reminder to Oliver that he is still a part of the 'upper' world as Oliver Queen.

Mia Dearden – A young girl stuck in the vile web that is the sex-trafficking ring. She is looking for a way out and the Green Arrow's activities could just be her chance to escape.

Shado – A mysterious, young, Japanese woman he met on Lian Yu who saved his life and helped teach him ways to survive and fight there. Shado was very secretive and the best Oliver could figure out was that she had an affiliation to the Yakuza and quite a bit of martial arts training. Oliver was a bit disappointed she decided to not to come with him and still wonders where she went and what she is doing.

James Cameron – Police lieutenant in the SCPD. Prides himself on being hard on criminals and has a distrust of masked vigilantes. Wouldn't mind nabbing Green Arrow along with the criminals but is more than willing to capitalize on his activities in order to take down crime.

Naomi Singh – A skilled computer analyst and software developer, her technical skills come in quite handy when having to deal with high tech crime.

Henry Fyff – A man with a passion for R&D and weaponry, Oliver has found him to be the perfect fit to help keep his arsenal updated and full of new and useful toys. Has a deep crush on Naomi Singh.

China White – A high ranking member of the Chinese Triad, China White is a ruthless gangster who is not below using any method at her disposal to ensure the Triads foothold in Starling City. A skilled martial artist, assassin, and small arms expert, her skills are not limited to employing her organization to do her dirty work.

Daniel Brickwell 'Brick' – Daniel Brickwell is a powerful mobster who has a heavy presence in The Glades part of Starling City. While his gang is dangerous, the man himself is a metahuman with skin as strong as brick making him a very hard opponent to fight against even with weapons. He prefers a more brute force approach to things but is by no means a pure muscle head.

Onomatopoeia – A strange villain who only speaks in 'sounds'. A mysterious individual with unknown motivations, but he certainly has no qualms with taking innocent lives in the process of a job.

The lights, the glamour, the women, it was a strange feeling coming back into Starling City's circle of high society. One half of him was glad to be back into his spot as one of Starling City's most adored members of society, but the other half remembered the horrors of Lian Yu and balked from the extravagance of it all. How many people could live such a decadent life in Starling City? A lot more than he wished to admit, especially when comparing them to the majority of the city.

If Oliver Queen was honest with himself he did miss the women though. I guess there had been Shado, but when survival and taking down an illegal operation were the primary concerns, there was little room for relationships. Shado had been more of a firm hand than a comforting companion anyway.

"Nice homecoming bash you got going here Ollie. I see you haven't lost your touch after 5 years." Tommy Merlin smirked as he approached Oliver Queen who had a beautiful brunette on one arm and a glass of champagne in his free hand.

"I'm rather surprised myself after 5 years in the North China Sea, kind of figured maybe I'd have lost my charm. It would appear that the mystery I acquired from my time on that island has made up for that. Women can't ignore a man of mystery after all." The brunette giggled on his arm and gave him a little squeeze. Oliver smiled back at her, she was a beautiful woman, Ellie if he remembered correctly, but apart from her looks he had realized that he felt no deeper attraction. She seemed smart and intelligent but she wouldn't understand what he would be trying to do, she was too entrenched in her ways and her station to become anything but a passing acquaintance to him.

"Well I admit, it is quite the mystery how you managed to survive so long without your prized wi-fi and night clubs!" Tommy jested as he lifted his own glass of champagne toward Oliver, who returned the gesture before they both took a sip.

At the moment they were all up in the pent-house suite of one of Starling City's finest hotels at Oliver Queen's expense. It was only natural that the prodigal son, though not of his own choice, have such a magnificent bash to signify his return to the elite circles of Star City. All the biggest names had been invited and the service was superb. It really was a colossal waste of time and money, or at least it would if it had been the Oliver of five years ago.

If there was one thing the rich loved, it was their vices, and fancy parties were some of their favorite places to spread the word of their newest amusement. Oliver made sure to keep his ears ready to snatch the latest bit of gossip and while there was a good chance some of the elites would try to share their findings with the new billionaire in town, he was also now an unknown, but he knew some of the places where people liked to talk, where a few bugs would be waiting to snatch up anything of interest.

"You certainly have a lot to catch up on Oliver. Just give me a call when you want the scoop on the hottest new digs in town!" Tommy took up a spot beside Oliver and took another sip from his drink.

"It is surprising what can change in five years, but also comforting to see what hasn't changed." Oliver took a look around at the top crust of Star City. It was the same worthless drivel as ever, it was sad it had taken five years and a lot of hell to open up his eyes to the truth. He couldn't change the past, but he was sure as hell going to make sure to change Starling City's future, before all that was left in Starling was the rich and the poor, the overlords and the slaves.

Oliver Queen had been given a second chance, and he was damn well going to make sure he did it right.

I'll be gone for a few days and won't come back till next week so I won't be around for the conclusion so don't wait on me or anything.
Haha I thought you wanted him to be called Winky and so I obliged. Of course I don't think we've actually said what he look like or his race yet, so Winky could be a perfectly legit name...maybe.
Well things had certainly taken a drastic turn for the worse. Now that the young boy was a hostage on the bridge that meant he could not be saved by the operation, they needed to somehow convince them to return him to the rest of the group. Adding another layer of complexity to the mix was Jessica Beadle's reaction to the situation as she stepped onto the bridge, while thankfully the screen did not pick her up, her cry was most certainly picked up on the other end. Francesca's analysis was spot on when Winky gave a cruel grin after hearing the young woman's reaction. They were being forced to speed up by these actions.

Before Francesca could respond however, Captain Du-Vos turned around, his tentacles rigid with fury and frustration. "Winky! What do you think you're doing with that boy!"

"Stuff it captain! We've got way too much investment in this to risk anything now! I know you're an old fart so you don't have to worry as much but I've got a whole rich, wonderful life ahead of me! Just look at their reactions, they're scared stiff! This is the way to deal with I.S.S. scumbags!"

"If you harm that boy in any way they won't bother to listen to us anymore and we'll lose all chances at securing payment and an escape route!"

"Oh can if ya pile of slack!" The captain and the crewman glared at each other, it was at this point that Francesca realized that the captain had every intention of sticking to his own moral code, but the rest of the crew was not so inclined. This meant that their best bet was to agree with Captain Du-Vos as much as possible. Francesca mustered up as powerful a voice as she could must, not in volume but in authority.

"You'd best listen to your captain Winky. If you dare to harm that child in front of us we will be forced to consider your ship a terrorist vessel to be destroyed immediately!"

Winky frowned but did not seem convinced. "You don't have the guts! I heard that gasp back there, you would do anything to save this child!" Francesca glared back.

"Article 6, section 32 of the I.S.S. operation handbook. In a hostage situation, if the force holding hostages executes a prisoner to force negotiations along, they will be considered incapable of sticking to the terms of their demands and therefore immediately designated as intergalactic terrorists to be destroyed on sight!" In reality of course this was a complete bluff but unless you were ex-military there wasn't even a chance that a pirate would know that, let along have read the entire handbook.

"She's right you know." Captain Du-Vos put in to add to her clout. "That's part of the reasons I always made sure to be careful when dealing with people in this business."

"Screw you!" Winky shouted but one could see his confidence was shattered and he was starting to sweat bullets.

"We will refuse to continue negotiations as long as that boy is still on the bridge. As soon as he is safely escorted back, we will resume the negotiations. The only way we can ensure our end of the bargain is if everyone is still alive by the end of it." Winky seemed to want to spout something else but this time Captain Du-Vos cut him off.

"Hurry and do it Winky! The longer we wait the less time we have to get away!" Cursing, Winky roughly dragged the kid off while Du-Vos turned back to the screen, a few tentacles quivering with relief. "Now I believe we were just about to agree on a drop off location for our goods."

Francesca nodded, thankfully for captain Du-Vos support on the matter. If it hadn't been for him, there might have been no way to stop Winky from killing the kid in front of their eyes. She would make sure to put the captain's behavior on file for when he was taken in.
While what might be thought of as a simple phone call was easy enough to do, it required quite a bit of thought and preparation before they began negotiations. As the ambassador and chief negotiator Francesca had quite a few variables to juggle. She had to take into account who they were dealing with, how best to start up the negotiations, where to start the negotiations, and what was the best image to portray while the talks were going.

As they would be representing the I.S.S. against an illegal entity that meant the best location for contact would be from the bridge itself as a show of authority, any other location might portray a sense of weakness on their part. Considering the situation and who they were dealing with, it was best to skip any pleasantries and go straight to the negotiation table so introductions would be short and to the point. Getting straight to the point was not good for their time table, but anything else could easily be seen as an attempt to stall so there was little to be done about that, the stalling would have to be done on the negotiation table itself.

After talking out the initial details with the captain Francesca quickly headed off to prepare for the talks. As an Ambassador, Francesca was privy to a rather extensive wardrobe to better deal with a wide variety of races and customs. The wardrobe ranged from flowing dresses to skintight suits and more; however in this situation the most appropriate choice was the traditional dress uniform. It was a white uniform with silver trim, a white dress jacket, and gold tassels on the shoulders. The most significant modification to hers was the fact that instead of the regular dress pants she had opted for a knee-length pencil skirt, with a slit on the left side for ease of movement. The main reasons for her choice was to give the impression of her being relaxed and in control through a less practical and more fashionable choice of uniform.

Once all the preparations were ready, Francesca met the captain on the bridge, ready to begin. One last-second look in a pocket mirror to check her hair, and Ambassador Francesca was ready to begin.

"Hail the pirate ship. Let's get these hostages released shall we." Francesca flashed a quick smile around the bridge before taking a neutral expression as the channel was opened. "This is Ambassador Lunarius of the I.S.S. Prize here to ensure the release of the crew of the civilian vessel Moray."

Soon the screen lit up with the bridge of the pirate vessel, the massive Captain Du-Vos taking up a large portion of the screen. The Fithagians were a unique race to be sure. Obviously their size gave them a distinct advantage physically over a lot of races and their tentacle like appendages gave them more dexterity than one would think. The biggest problem in reading a Fithagian was their lack of humanoid facial features, their eyes were not particularly expressive and as they had so many tentacles on their face it was hard to get a read. In order to read a Fithagian one had to be able to read the unique tentacle ticks on their faces, this was made difficult by the fact their faces liked to move pretty much at random, so in order to read a Fithagian face one had to pay more attention to how they suppressed their own movements or twitched in reaction to outer stimuli.

Captain Du-Vos appeared quite calm for the moment, a normal amount of wiggling going on for his species. "This is Captain Du-Vos, as I am sure you are aware I refuse to release the hostages until my demands are met." Francesca noticed an odd stiffening of the outer tendrils whenever he said 'my', a rather noteworthy tick to keep track of.

"And as I am sure you are aware Captain Du-Vos, your demands are beyond extreme and would never be considered by the I.S.S."
In the background she could see a certain crew member with some kind of plasma rifle, start to shake with anger. "Of course we would prefer everyone to walk away form this in one piece so let's try to discuss this in a reasonable matter."

Captain Du-Vos leaned forward a bit and the tips of his front tentacles curled, a sign of...concern? But about what? At the moment it did appear the pirates had the advantage, so there had to be something else that was of concern to the Captain. "Of course any good negotiator must set the bar high to ensure the other party takes them...seriously. Let's get to it shall we?"

Soon a set of holographic demands appeared on the screen, starting with the original set. The negotiations had reached a new stage.
But wouldn't smoking weed be like, cannibalism to a plant person?
His favorite color is red, which is GREAT because it matches his shirt! :D

Red shirt detected. So anyone want to bet how and when they'll become just another red shirt? I say first away mission, sucked out into space by explosive decompression. :)
Boo
This was not the situation room meeting Francesca had been hoping for. The ship was supposed to be exploring uncharted space but instead they had been delayed by the nearby situation. Instead of making new contact with a new species and a new world, she would be stuck playing negotiator. The correct word really was playing as the ISA had absolutely no intention of negotiating with terrorists asking for a ludicrous amount of payment in exchange for hostages.

Francesca rubbed her temples as a very light migraine started, so it probably wasn't related to her medical condition. She had been getting into a juicy chapter in The Captain's Mismanagement, a rather racy novel, when the call came for the officers to assemble. As she tried to save the other hours of the day to more beneficial pursuits, such as brushing up on alien customs, practicing her music, and settling disputes among shipmates, the early morning hours were the best time to settle down in her comfortable loveseat and enjoy a good piece of sexy trash. Of course she did not let her displeasure show on her face at any time during the meeting, but the captain in the story was just about to get in a spicy situation with an alien crew-member when the call had come in so underneath she was not in the best of moods.

As it was already decided they were going to rescue the hostages with a rather direct approach, the only thing Francesca had to consider was what was the best way to keep Captain Du-Vos occupied. There was the slightest of possibilities they could reach an arrangement and gunplay wouldn't be needed, but considering the circumstances it was highly unlikely. As he was old and looking to retire, he was really gunning for a big payoff and would be on the lookout for anything suspicious, despite not being on A or B team, Francesca and the captain had the extremely important job of keeping him occupied while the others went to work.

"I'll do my best to keep the negotiations going but it really will come down to how fast everyone can do their part as we can only stall him for so long. Captain Du-Vos is experienced so I'm sure he'll be on the lookout, thankfully he also appears to be quite greedy, so as long as he thinks he is making headway in negotiations he'll probably keep trying to haggle. As long as we don't tip our hand prematurely or raise his suspicions, we might be able to negotiate for about...maybe three hour at best. This is of course only an estimate but he has experience so as soon as he feels something is wrong he'll make a break for it or try to put us in check."

Francesca put a twirled a finger around a strand of her hair after giving her assessment. "Captain, it will be paramount to make him believe he is in complete control of a situation to try and prolong talks as much as possible. Please try not to anger or incite him if at all possible. While his records show that he values sentient life as he is hoping this to be his last haul he may be tempted to bend his own rules on that issue."

While she didn't want to question her captain at all, he was their new captain and quite young so she felt it best to at least him him a bit of a warning. It was not an exaggeration to think that the entire mission rested on her and the captain's ability to keep Captain Du-Vos attention while the others went to work. Everyone would be counting on them.
