When your internet is out, you ponder why you spend so much time on it. When it comes back again, you ignore any deep, profound discoveries you make about it taking up time and go right back to it.

Very well!
*the whole Tavern warps and for a split second you see another me at one end of the bar counter that dissipates and the whole room is filled with lively and rowdy beings*

Now this is business.

<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

I guess that's what I'm wondering about. Why are they more scared of you than the sheriff or something?

Because I'm more capable.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

Ohhhhhhh. What do you do if you catch someone?

What any authority would do. Arrest them.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

But you can’t be in all of those places at once, right?

No, no. But I can be in any one of them at any time, and that's what matters.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

I guess I just don’t know what that looks like.

A lot of people guarding a place. Insane cyber warfare capabilities. Big names of people everyone knows means business openly advertised as overseeing whatever that is. Not to toot my own horn, but if nearly anyone in the IA reads a sign that says a location is under the watchful eye of Max Cerberus at all times, they don't test it.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

So you... make examples? Be a scary figurehead?

Make sure that everyone knows that what we want protected, is protected in every way they can imagine and then some. People aren't going to try anything if they don't believe they'll get far enough for it to matter.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

Yeah! They’re like consequences.

You get the idea. That's one way we do it.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

How do you protect them if there’s not a threat?

Know about the concept of deterrents?
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

How do you do that? I thought heroes fought bad guys.

Intelligence, interception... You name it. It's more effective to protect people from threats either before the threat is in range, or before it exists at all.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

What does that mean?

It's less about protecting people from danger as it's happening, and more about preventing the danger period.
<Snipped quote by Intrepid>

It’s mostly protecting people and stuff?

I suppose arranging situations so that people don’t need protected is a roundabout way of just protecting them, huh? Because I mostly do that, with a bit of direct protecting.
