“I’ll have my team move on that information as soon as we have it in hand,” Leto said.

That was his role. Building connections, communicating, gathering intelligence, providing operational security. The security team, in the casually understood sense, meant men with blasters that protected the Senator when things went wrong. It was by Leto’s efforts, though, that they were largely superfluous. The best way to keep someone from getting killed is by avoiding situations that get people killed.

“Does your team need our support on this matter with Dras Don? We have people to spare.”

Star Wars: The Outer Rim

Introduction

Five years have passed since the Battle of Endor. A New Republic has risen, and the Empire is a shadow of its former self. As the heroes of the Rebellion work to establish this new government and the Empire wars with itself in an effort to resolve a crisis of succession, the Outer Rim is left lawless. Local planetary authorities, newly established sector capitals of the New Republic, isolated Imperial strongholds, and criminal kingpins vie for control of the galaxy's outlying worlds. It is a landscape ripe for exploitation by smugglers, bounty hunters, pirates, rogues and scoundrels alike. Not unlike yourself, as it were.

Welcome to the Outer Rim.

Unlike my other project, Sector Force Daalang, this is a sandbox oriented game where you will take on the role of a scoundrel making his or her way in the galaxy in the tumultuous aftermath of the Empire's collapse. You and your fellow crewmates are free to explore the galaxy, take jobs, carry out missions, and generally go on adventures.

You'll be starting off with your own ship, some unscrupulous underworld contacts, and in the middle of your first job. My aim for the campaign as a whole is for it to draw inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with adversarial pirates, mystical compasses, cursed treasures, space krakens, colonies, mysterious planets, and encounters with the law, as well as from other media like The Mandalorian, Shadowrun, and more.

Briefing Memorandum - Operation Bowshot I

Roster
Zel Demdan, Duros Squadron Leader
Sorn Snub, Sullustan Rigger

Operation Type: Starfighter Operation

Situation Report: A Daalangi criminal syndicate, the Black Bough, has been conducting piracy operations in the Sturos System, some of which have targeted SFD freighters. Recently, a GR-75 freighter transporting fuel to one of the sector force's new asteroid bases in the system was waylaid and destroyed by a pirate gunship. This ship, the Longbow, is the target of this operation.

SFD Naval Command has developed a trap for this gunship. The GR-75 starship Rogue Trader, in orbit over the frozen moon of Enceles, will broadcast a distress signal to draw the Longbow out. Once the Longbow has been drawn out, a task force led by the CR90 Carrier-Corvette Falconer will ambush and capture the pirate.

Primary Mission Objective: Incapacitate the Longbow.

Secondary Mission Objective: Secure space superiority over Enceles while the Longbow is boarded.

Execution: The starfighter squadron, based out of Sector Force Daalang's planetary base on Bolevra, will transfer to the Falconer's hangar in orbit over the planet. The Falconer, accompanied by the Sphyrna-class frigate Shield of Dorsis, will travel through hyperspace to the Sturos System and take up a position at the outer edge of the solar system. Once the Rogue Trader gives the signal, the Y-Wing squadron will execute a cross-system microjump to the GR-75's location and engage the pirate gunship.

Support: Each pilot on this mission will be provided with a Y-Wing.

Difficulty: 3 - Moderate resistance anticipated.

Scuttlebutt: The Claymore, one of the three Star Destroyers in the Empire's Daalang Systems Fleet, has been deployed to the Oktos Sector.

Operation Type: SpecForces Operation

Situation Report: A Daalangi criminal syndicate, the Black Bough, has been conducting piracy operations in the Sturos System, some of which have targeted SFD freighters. Recently, a GR-75 freighter transporting fuel to one of the sector force's new asteroid bases in the system was waylaid and destroyed by a pirate gunship. Once the Longbow has been drawn out, a task force led by the CR90 Carrier-Corvette Falconer will ambush and capture the pirate.

Primary Mission Objective: Capture the Longbow.

Execution: After the Y-Wing Squadron has disabled the gunship, the Sphyrna-class frigate Shield of Dorsis will dock with the incapacitated vessel. A boarding team will storm the pirate gunship, aiming to capture the engine room (to prevent the enemy from scuttling the ship) and the cockpit.

Support: None.

Difficulty: 4 - Moderate Resistance anticipated; boarding actions are highly risky.

Scuttlebutt: Admiral Fedouin D'Ndro, commander of Sector Force Daalang, is negotiating with the Mon Calamari to acquire a Mon Cal cruiser for SFD NAVCOMM.

Pre-Made Characters

To make the game more accessible to players new to the system, I've gone ahead and created a few pre-generated characters, which you can choose to play in lieu of creating your own character.

Duo Antares, Starfighter Pilot - Especially appropriate for space missions, Duo Antares is a good pilot and capable in a dogfight. As usual, you can expect to find yourself behind the controls of a Y-Wing unless the mission specifies otherwise.

Bantan Chardee, Squad Leader - Bantan Chardee is an infantry commander; he's a good soldier and capable of leading a team into combat (and out of it) successfully.

Bast Argoval, Combat Medic - A great support player, Bast Argoval is capable of patching his allies up when they get hurt, but don't get him wrong - he knows his way around a blaster and can hold his own in a firefight.

Vani Card, Saboteur - A mechanic, demolitionist, and slicer, Vani is great at both fixing things and breaking things.

Zalbracca, Rebel Commando - A giant Wookiee warrior from the planet Kashyyyk, Zalbracca can take a hit or three and keep on fighting.

Kindly post your own created characters below.

Operation Type: SpecForces Operation

Situation Report: With the help of sympathizers among Daalang's prominent business magnates and industrialists, Sector Force Daalang's Logistics Division has acquired a small mining corporation that operates in the remote Sturos System. This acquisition has given Sector Force Daalang access to a handful of stations in the system, which will serve as bases of operation where the sector force's fledgling navy can safely refuel and resupply between operations.

The Sturos System is lightly patrolled, seeing only a few anti-piracy patrol ships pass through the system every month, and is even more lightly populated. Its only permanent inhabitants are a scant few hundred beings eking out an existence on the frozen moon of Enceles, the only orbital body in the system that could be considered habitable.

SFD's new mining company, Sturos Mining Systems, used to operate a planetary mining base on Enceles (the "Mining Facility"). The mountain base was abandoned several years ago, but the installation remains, as far as the company's records show, intact. This base has an underground hangar large enough to house two GR-75 freighters, with room to spare for a squadron or two of starfighters. As Sector Force Daalang currently possesses no planetary bases in the southern half of the Daalang Sector, the seizure of this facility is among the sector force's top priorities.

To this end, Sector Force Daalang's command now looks to deploy a force recon squad to scout out and, if possible, secure the defunct Mining Facility. Intelligence indicates that a local crime syndicate, the Black Bough, may be using the facility to stage some small-scale piracy operations in the region. Light resistance is anticipated.

Primary Mission Objective: Develop actionable intelligence on the Mining Facility; determine whether anyone currently occupies the Mining Facility.

Secondary Mission Objective: Secure the Mining Facility.

Execution: YT-1300 Freighter Princess of Mon Cala will detach from the 2nd Naval Squadron and insert the Force Recon Squad ten kilometers south of the Mining Facility. The Force Recon Squad will proceed overland to the Mining Facility.

Support: Given the extreme low temperatures on Enceles, the Force Recon Squad will be provided with Cold-Weather Adverse Environment Gear and a weatherproofed skiff.

Difficulty: 3 - light resistance possible; hostile environment anticipated.

Scuttlebutt: SDF Command is focusing on the Sturos System because of its proximity to the Maerdocian Sector. Future operations there will be staged from Enceles, if the facility can be captured.

Area of Operations

Please find contained in the links below maps of Sector Force Daalang's Area of Operation. The Northern and Southern oriented maps will be updated as we tackle missions in new locations and flesh out the region over the course of the campaign.

Welcome to Star Wars: Sector Force Daalang!

This is a play-by-post pen-and-paper game using Fantasy Flight Games's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, specifically using the Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire Core Rulebooks. You and others will play as rebel soldiers, operators, and more as members of Sector Force Daalang, a division of the Alliance to Restore the Republic that operates in the Daalang Sector (and a few neighboring sectors to boot).

Rather than play a single, linear game with consistent characters and players showing up to a participate in a regular, weekly session, instead we will be playing a series of shorter, self-contained one-shots which will contribute to a greater overall narrative. In practice, this means that you will create a character, I will announce an "Operation" (the one-shot), and you are free to sign up to play in that one-shot. You are able to participate in as many or as few operations as you like, and you can have up to three characters active at any one time, giving you flexibility as to the types of missions you can participate in and the roles you can play.

Over time, the outcome of these missions will tell the story of the Rebel Alliance's fight against the Empire in the Daalang Sector, and you will determine whether the Daalang Sector is freed from Imperial oppression.

Don't worry about the rules too much. Just swing by the Discord and you'll have everything you need to join the game.
