Current I love hunt showdown. nothing like talking shit in prox chat while having a friendly cowboy shootout over a bayou bounty. Now I just need to acquire skill over ungodly amount of hours playing the game

Angus McSix and the Sword of Power is a pretty damn good album. I was hesitant about Thomas Winkler's new band after being booted from Gloryhammer but my worry was unfounded. He is def back one better

I'm cool with beast races, especially as I was going to use one I prototyped a bit from the Serpent People in Lovecraftian mythos. Anatomically they are essentially the same but I do differ on the society and culture. Still working on the character but am thinking going with an Animancer would be fun. Was wanting to do something with healing and the added bonus of animating things allows for some interesting writing. If you'd like a quick overview of the race's physiology, culture, etc let me know. They look like this and average slightly taller than the average human

@TaliPaendrag

I'm interested in the mage guild, I have a custom race I might use that might fit in a guild setting.

While Nuthrix awaited their response, he noticed that one of the pair seemed agitated while the other seemed to be calm. They both had weapons ready, but decided aggression was not a viable choice and holstered their weapons.

This pleased Nuthrix and allowed some new thoughts. Not all of the humans were incapable of realizing the best course of action. Nuthrix was aware of some sort of conflict between major factions, conflict means a reliable source of biomass to assimilate. Perhaps after he amasses enough power and territory, he can come to a mutual arrangement with one of the factions. If not, he will make it so through force or perhaps other, subtler, forms of manipulation.

"Our choice is we go on our own way… But uhm, may I ask what you are doing... and hmm... why you need them sacrifices.”

A good choice, your health will benefit from it. As for your question, I was merely performing a ritual with my priests. You can see how that ended. I hold no malice for others, but any action taken against the Hive will be reciprocated. A few moments of interference will delay me a week, more humans will need to be provided and the process of preparing them for a ritual is time consuming.

As for the why… it is simply what fuels our magik. When we bargain for power, something must be offered, something must bleed. My offer stands, if you are willing to bring victims, you will be compensated. The only catch is that they must be alive. Beyond that their state of health does not concern me. If you are unwilling, it would be best to forget what you saw as you leave, you won’t benefit from knowing of me. If you need to, you may find me here for the time being. At least until I can expand my influence further. My minions will await your return…

Having said that, Nuthrix retreated into the woods with the Hive Priests back to the cavern further in. The aura of dread seeming to leave with him. The Ghasts followed shortly after, having picked the clearing free of any human remains. The only indicator of the even happening would be the stone monoliths and the faint smell of blood.

Naflhai

Nuthrix thought, sensing some humans approaching.

They can’t interfere now, if the ritual were to be interrupted at this stage…

But before finishing his thought, he directed his Ghasts to incapacitate them without bloodshed as their unpurified blood may taint the spell. Well, at least that was the plan before one of them left the camera flash on. While a flash is merely annoying to most, to the Hive Priests (which are adapted for dark environments) this sudden change in light is painful causing one of them to fumble and miss the sacrifice. This would prove disastrous, and with Nuthrix and the Hive Priests briefly were at varying degrees of shock.

The red mist in the center, which have been feeding off of the essence of the sacrifices, was now interrupted much like a blood vessel clotting and the heart is unable to pump blood. After a brief period of inactivity, the mist began to fluctuate wildly before condensing into a miniature storm with blood red clouds. While it lasted briefly, it was no less terrible and electrocuted the remaining sacrifices and a Hive Priest to death rather painfully before dissipating.

You ignorant humans made a mistake coming here…

Nuthrix communicated mentally

Interrupting a uln’vulgtm as demanding as this has dangerous effects, it was fortunate that it was relatively harmless this time around. Not that it matters much as I don’t intend for you to leave.

Sensing a change in Nuthrix's mood, the Ghasts altered their gait. Switching from intimidating (like a beast growling) to a more offensive charge. While the humans had the advantage of range, they did not get to make much use of it due to a combination of being outnumbered and fear. In the chaos, it was clear they needed to choose either fight or flight but the result was the same. After a few minutes it was still 15 Ghasts but the Humans fared poorly, being reduced to little more than several piles of discarded limbs and organs, some even being chewed on by a Ghast. Although one of them managed to elude his pursuers presumably with the camera as well. Time would tell is this would amount to anything...

Meanwhile two other humans approached from the other side of the clearing, arriving just near the conclusion. The Ghasts moved to intercept with the same ferocity that doomed the earlier group before being stopped by Nuthrix.

They had only just arrived and have not done anything yet, plus he could sense… some sort of aura about them that gave him pause. He saw no reason to be aggressive at this time despite his bitter mood. He allowed the humans the chance to leave, but they foolishly interrupted the ritual and ruined a week of preparation. He will offer these humans a similar choice.

What do you hope to gain approaching this slaughter? There is little more here than death.

Nuthrix communicated, gesturing to the grisly remains of the soldiers.

These fools interrupted a ritual and paid for it with their flesh and blood. As long as you don’t repeat their mistake I won’t seek you any harm and you may proceed elsewhere. Now, unless you can offer me some humans to sacrifice I suggest you leave unless you would like to feel the strength in our bite...

Nuthrix then gestured to the Ghasts covered in gore. Most of them were waiting impatiently at his side, waiting for the command to attack. A few of them were hungrily gnawing on the marrow and sinews on human bones and fighting amongst each other for the scraps. While technically Ghasts did not need to eat, He felt it would help to sell the trouble they would face.

So? make your choice, anything to say?

Nuthrix waited for a reply
It has been several days since the Vuar’uuk expeditionary force had arrive to this alien planet, but one would not know that by how much they have expanded within that time frame. The center of Nuthrix’s influence is still the cavern dubbed Y’quaa but expands far beyond that. Most of the land is forested which is ideal for the bulk of the Vuar’uuk are adapted for guerrilla tactics, observing unseen until an opportunity opens.

Many of the underlings are delegated to surveying the territory and pacifying the populace of a local town. With only a population barely above 60, word quickly spread throughout town of a mysterious creature and some of the livestock and villagers disappearing. Not many saw this creature but the few that did claimed the beast looked like a man standing 10 feet slouched with teeth bigger than any wolf and that it could jump over a house. With such a tale not many dared to venture far from their hamlet, though perhaps one might try to seek aid from some other village. Nuthrix cared little for what they did and would take no action against them unless they came near the cave. There was a ritual to prepare for and no one must disturb it.

Several days later

It is a dark and moonless night when Nuthrix was finally ready to start the ritual. There would only be a limited number of opportunities for this particular ritual as it required the star Aldebaran to be in the sky. Though it was cloudy Nuthrix could sense it somewhat like how birds could sense north. In the clearing of the forest, an observer would note 9 stone blocks about 3 yards by 3 yards by 3 yards long arranged in a V shape with the bottom most being decorated in bones. The other 8 each have a live human on top, no doubt kidnapped from the local village, bound in a red web like substance leaving them incapable of moving though it does not stop them from trying to struggle. With the Hive Priests ready, Nuthrix took his place on the decorated stone and drew his own blood.

After spilling a drop of blood on each of the 8 daggers, each of 8 Hive Priests took one and slowly made their way to one of the 8 other blocks while beginning a chant.

“Y'AI'NG'NGAHYAR’QUILH'EE-L'GEBF'AI THRODOGUAAAHH”

After repeating this a few times, they each stood over a human and began a new chant.

“Y’AI’NGOHYAR’QUIL’H’EE-A’GABB’AI THRODOGUAAAHH”

Two of the priests plunged their dagger deep into the human’s flesh, piercing the heart in order to extinguish their life as quickly as possible. The human’s efforts to struggle began to die as their bodies followed. As they died, their bodies evaporated into a red mist which traveled towards the center of the V shape. As it did, the clouds began to part revealing only one star and the ground shook slightly as if a very large predator was nearby.

YAR’QUIL EE’YANOK SHUGOTHH VORNOOTH’LAKI

With the incantation said, the Priests began their chant again, before sacrificing the next two humans. Their mass being added to the red mist, which now has a volume of about 10 cubic yards and slowly beginning to take a form.

YAR’QUIL EE’YANOK SHUGGOTHH VORNOOTH’ENOK

Again, the Priests chanted preparing to sacrifice two more. An observer might note at this point that it is unusually silent. Save for the chanting, no wind could be heard rustling leaves nor animals or insects, almost as if the world has gone silent. They would also feel a sort of aura of dread permeate through them, they would know what is happening is not for their benefit.

*OOC: Anyone feel free to interact at this point or simply observe. I would like to note that there is a group of 15 Ghasts guarding the ritual ensuring outsiders do not interfere with the ritual.*
Shuggothh…

If there was one word Nuthrix would have to say, that would be it. While this world was annoyingly close to a star, it seemed to be a boon for the native life as Nuthrix could sense the presence of many creatures. Reaching out mentally, they mostly seemed to be shells operating without will and by instinct alone. There, however, were some very distant that offered resistance to it.

Uln Vuar’uuk nnnlliog, r’luh Shuggoth.

Almost without pause, the swarm around Nuthrix began to act. Each one knowing what it must do and attempting their task to the best of their abilities. It was not long before a rudimentary outpost was established in a network of caverns away from any prying eyes. While the enclosed position limits possibilities it is an important step for the first phase of Nuthrix’s operation.

With such a small force, the Vuar’uuk are vulnerable, while the natives are assumed to be hostile. In order to continue they must remain unknown, not even as a rumor, but fortunately this is one of their strengths. With enough resources to sustain them for the moment, Nuthrix can afford to wait. Wait long enough to spawn a new generation of Vuar’uuk, it would only take a few days to have enough forces to expand a bit more, especially considering much of the surrounding land does not seem to be claimed by any faction large enough to deter Nuthrix.

In the meantime, a few ghasts manage to intercept a small group of the creatures with some amount of free will. Killing most of them with limited resistance, it is a wonder how they exist. They seem so fragile with no natural hide and clawless limbs. Only one was incapacitated alive, but that is all Nuthrix required. When the creature saw Nuthrix, it panicked. Almost as if it, rightfully, knew it was in a very bad position. It could not do anything, however, as it was being restrained by a ghast and was helpless to whatever fate awaited it. It was not long before it felt another...presence in it's mind. Nuthrix preferred to communicate in this way, by influencing the mind of others. Nuthrix initially probed the creatures mind gently, performing a cursory glance before adopting a more commanding presence.

Ya k’na h’ee li’hee n’gah. Phlegethagl? Nnnilgh’ri? Csgn’wahl?

…Throdd ylliog.

Though the creature gave several responses, none of them were the right one giving Nuthrix one option. Though at a distant Nuthrix’s influence was weak, close up the influence was strong enough to dislodge the human's mind, as Nuthrix learned they called themselves, until the poor soul became a husk. An empty shell with no will but that of the Hive. Nuthix’s Hive.

Ya kadishtu, h’r’uhlor… Ckadishtu hai…. We….I know….Now.

Now all that remains is what to do with the human... the empty Shell. It could be recycled into biomass, though it’s current lack of will means it will be of lower quality, but it may still serve a use. Lacking any ability to infilitrate Human society at the time, the Shell may prove useful in this regard. Confident in it’s decision, Nuthrix opts to keep the human until it is no longer required. The Shell escapes death though it’s current fate may be worse. Regardless, in the Hive one is either useful or food.

Added some strains,

@Kuchenlein Ok, still working on a few parts, mostly the military though. Looking through the ol' Malleus Monstrorum for some inspiration (ofc i'll let you know when/if I add more so you can look over the additions) and I'll join the discord since my role in the RP is assured.
