"Oh, right." Devika flinched slightly, and backed away. "Sorry. I didn't mean anything by it, I was just trying to help." She managed a weak half smile before sighing softly.

"I am not going to use my powers on you without permission. I understand that now. I really am sorry." She went back inside without another word, going right back to boxing things up. Inwardly, she was cursing herself. She'd been so sure that she was helpful that she didn't even stop to think and ask for permission. And they were supposed to be working together. Roxy was right to be angry, it was just as intrusive as touching someone without their say, which Devika hated. She continued to work in silence, until she had several stacks of boxes just waiting to be put in the van.

@Raijinslayer @Savo

Jin noted the other girl's look of confusion, and chuckled. "I'm just messing with you, you're way too frilly to be a 'kun'." Jin's pencil was still going as she kept up the rapid calculation. "You'll be Yumi-san for a while. I don't wanna make you stand out anymore. But you can call me whatever you feel like it. I don't mind." Inwardly, she was slowly considering telling this nice-seeming girl to back off. It would be easier than her discovering later that being friends with Jin was like a social suicide. Maybe, though, they could be a pair of weirdos together.

"I'm from Tokyo, as far as anyone here is considered. I was... born in Manhattan, New York. I think I got in here because they want to make me a model citizen? Good fuckin' luck with that." That was all she felt like saying about that, and with a faint 'hah' she set down her pencil.

"The odds of us 2 meeting in this classroom are approximately 0.853%. Pretty wild, huh?" She tapped the number with a very faint smile, pleased with the magic of numbers. Following Camilla's stare, she noted the same girl just death-glaring at the talkative group.

"What the hell's her issue? She got a headache or something?" Or maybe she was the kind of stuffed shirt brat who hated happiness and anything out of the ordinary. Every classroom had one.

Devika heard the van rolling up, the noise of it almost unnatural in her sanctuary. She taped up the box of books she was working on, and rose up to meet her. She could see, even through the front window, that Roxy was not alright.

"Um..." Devika put the box down on the ground, and quickly rushed to her side. "You look ill. Do you want some water or anything?" She wasn't sure what to do besides that, so she took a deep breath and focused on calm. A slow, soothing wave of emotion poured out from her, and it was a strong one. It could probably stop a fight if it ever needed to. But right now, she just wanted to make Roxy feel a bit better. She was pale looking and sweaty, and Devika was worried that she'd faint or something.
What is up mah homies

Jin sat in the front row, playing a game on her phone and trying to project an aura of ‘leave me alone’ to the rest of the world. She could hear a bunch of students talking animatedly, and there was a small part of her who wanted to join them. Especially when she heard “Tokyo” come up more than once. A response would come to her lips, but in the end, she said nothing and the moment was gone. Oh well. They probably didn’t want to hear from her anyway.

“Come on, level 24…” She muttered to herself as she forced her attention back to the game. Not long after that, she heard a very soft, almost halting Japanese introduction. She swept a glare upward and was about to dismiss whatever question this person had about her.

Then she was very glad she hadn’t spoken after all. Jin stared at the elf-like girl for a second longer than was appropriate, before dragging her gaze back to her phone.

“Yeah, s’fine. Not my seats.”

Her uncle’s words rang out in her memory, and she peeked up again.

“I’m Jin Takahashi, if it matters.” Suddenly, words were coming up. “I’m surprised there are 2 of us here. Maybe Ishin’s got a quota or something. 1 foreigners and 2 hafu’s per semester.” Of course this girl would have had to heard of the school’s reputation. Why was she here? What were the odds? She knew generally how many people like her were in Japan overall, having looked it up more than once. But to have another half-black person, going to the same school, on the same day, in the same class? Maybe she should calculate that for the hell of it.

She dug in her bag for a notebook and pencil.

“Glad to see another person here to shake up their comfort zone. Nice to meet you, Yumi-kun.”

Jin started to scribble out numbers in a complex equations.

@Raijinslayer

Even though Tokyo was long gone out of sight, Jin Takahashi sat on the bullet train with her face turned toward home. She slumped in her seat, clinging to her suitcase and running her fingers over a uniform jacket that was still too new. For all of her boasting and boldness in the entrance exam, she was nervous about Ishin.

Leaving her family this morning had been hard. Her aunt had been crying, just a bit, and even her uncle had given her a rare hug.

“Jin-chan, please be good.”

“Yes, I will.”

“Call us if you need anything at all.”

“Of course, uncle.”

“And… try to make friends? Maybe if you’re nice to them, they’ll be nice back?”

Jin couldn’t quite recall what she’d said in response to that; certainly some mild and pleasing platitude. Uncle Tairo had been so hopeful, so eager for her to be a regular, happy student. It almost hurt that he was so wrong. The world didn’t work that way – no one was signing up to be her friend. The good thing about Ishin is that she wouldn’t have to worry about that. She’d be surprised if they let her hafu-ass in the door without comment. She was further surprised to find tears blurring her vision, and she muttered curses at herself as she brushed at her eyes.

No, there would be no time for that. If she went in weak, they’d spit her out and it’d be proof that she was inferior. She inhaled slow, and let the soothing noise of the train bolster her. Nevous about Ishin? No! Ishin should be nervous about her!

The remaining ride was altogether too short and too long, as it slid into the station. Jin had already programmed the local map into her phone, and stood in front of the academy before too long. The jacket itched. Her shoes felt too loose. Already she could pick out her upperclassmen, who were more or less relaxed. She could see the backs of other first years, all heading to the same place. Well, there was nothing for it. She hoisted her suitcase and followed the trail of new people to a usual looking auditorium.

Already, it was filling with students. Ugh, and they were talking already. She could already feel the stares as she hovered in the doorway. Her stomach twisted with the usual anxiety. They would probably talk about her now. She braced her shoulders, showed a glint of teeth and walked right into claim a seat in the front. Let them stare.
"Oh, okay." Devika looked a bit disappointed, but then shrugged. "I suppose I'll save breakfast for you." She grinned vaguely before sitting down. Sure, this was going just great. As soon as Roxy was gone, the smile faded.

"This is going to be... a chore." She tucked into her meal with a disappointed sigh, and drained 2 mugs of coffee. Once she was done, she put away Roxy's share in the microwave. Then she got up and started back to work. Packing things away, and then cleaning up afterward.
Devika woke up bright and early, making a double pot of coffee and playing soothing music through her headphones as she started up breakfast. She could feel the other woman's presence, but not her emotions. It was odd - she knew that Roxy was there but there was nothing else. Was this what regular people felt all the time?

Fifteen minutes had a big breakfast on the table. Scrambled eggs, milk, toast and even some sausage. It would be easier to pack up the fridge if they ate well. She set out her plate, and almost forgot to set a second place for Roxy. This was going to be... so odd.

She went to her spare room, peeking in to see if Roxy was awake. She seemed half-asleep, so she padded away again to start packing. It was early still, but she'd gotten used to rising as the sun did. More time for packing.

Meanwhile, the glorious scent of fresh coffee and food filled the little house.
I've really got nothing, so I'll wait for the adventure to get started.

Personal History
Jin’s parents, Richard and Yumiko, met at an international university in a political science course. Despite a myriad of personal, cultural and social differences, they fell tumbling into love and married after graduation. Richard became a detective and Yumiko worked with the the city’s mayor. They were happy and successful, and together nearly 7 years before having a bouncing baby girl named Jinayah.

Another 5 years saw tragedy strike. A break in occurred at their home one winter night, and Richard and Yumiko were found dead, shot by an unknown assailant. Their daughter, who had just started kindergarten, was nowhere to be found. It was another year before they found Jin, who was caught trying to break into a convenience store. With her father having no living relatives, Jin was sent overseas to live with her mother’s brother.

Jin’s uncle Tairo, and aunt Misaki were both happy to take in their niece, and yet hurt by the circumstances. They did their best with the little girl and tried to help her fit in. They changed her name officially to her their family name, they took her to theme parks and festivals, and tried to be the best parents they could. It took a very long time for Jin to be able to open up and trust again.

Jin was never quite sure of the first time she understood she was different. Maybe it was elementary, in a class photo, where she was far too easy to pick out. Maybe one summer when someone told her that she didn’t have to worry about tanning, or when she overheard someone referring to her as “Hafu” for the first time, and she had to go home and look it up online.

Whatever the cause, her personality shifted dramatically in her first year of middle school. She went from trying to fit in to actively going against the grain. She stood up for the outcasts, and didn’t even try to pretend she was “normal”. In her mind, someone had to defend the people on the outside. The ones who weren’t like everyone else, the ones who didn’t fit in or fall in line. Those people, too, needed a hero.

This behavior caused no end of worry from her aunt and uncle. When it came time to pick high schools, Ishin was suggested as a place that could hone her spirit into something proper. Jin did enough reading to understand the school’s reputation, and what she read burned her up. She knew, that this school would be her first test. She’d make Ishin understand that she belonged, just as much as anyone, and she would be a great hero of ALL of Japan.

Character Development & Conceptualization
I wanted to play with the idea of a character with a chip on their shoulder and a lot to say about it. Jin is as close as I can write to a bully, and I want to push the idea of someone who constantly lashes out in a place where that isn’t tolerated. Either she learns to bend, or she breaks entirely. I want to know what lies beneath that kind of personality, behind all the anger and snapping.

Also, Jin feels like a fish out of water. She doesn’t feel American anymore, and there are some who will forever treat her like she isn’t Japanese. She expects everyone to hurt her, eventually, and while she’d be loathe to admit it, she is constantly waiting for that pain. She’s used to being alone, and to have that challenged would bring her to an unknown point.

Finally, I want to see if I can make a hero out of someone without the usual personality. All Jin has is raw stubbornness. She’s not naturally kind or gentle, most of her would rather not start a fight- because she knows that fight has to end with her winning, no matter the cost. Can someone lonely, angry and afraid have what it is to be a hero?

Abilities & Talents

Quirk Type
Emitter

Quirk Description
One Shot: She can hit anything she can see within 50 yards, but only with objects about the size of a ping pong ball and larger. Jin can curve her shots to hit her target. This takes time, however, and she has to concentrate to hit a faster moving target. If she can’t see her target, she will hit the next closest thing. Without a set target, One Shot is rather useless. The objects she throws or launches are still many of the laws of physics. Heavier objects take more force to throw and aim, while lighter ones are easier but not as forceful.

Overuse of her Quirk causes severe migraines. Jin can tell they're coming when her color vision starts to distort. Usually she can't push herself past that point, as migraines cause all of her senses to go out of whack. The more she pushes past the initial symptoms, the more she will pay for it later. Her worst migraine lasted 3 days.

Other Talents & Attributes
-Intelligence: Jin, despite her unfavorable personality, is rather intelligent. Her high test scores were part of what got her accepted. She loves math and mechanics, and if she burns out as a hero she’ll go to university for an Engineering degree.

-Side Job: Jin fixes computers and phones for money, and she’s quite good at it. Most things require a reboot or a drive cleaning, and she also takes requests for custom builds. This may turn into something she does in the summer, now that she’s entering high school.

-Natural Aim: Jin was in the archery club in middle school, and could have been Captain if she’d chosen to apply for it. She took up the sport because it was a challenge to not use her Quirk – like most sports teams, most Quirks had to not be used, or be harshly vetted to prevent unfair advantage or cheating of any kind. She had to rely on her own eyes and arms and skill, and she loved it. Even without her Quirk, she understands where and how something needs to go to hit a target.

-Big Eater: Jin likes food. She's got a quick metabolism, and always seems to be hungry.

-Bilingual: Despite being away from America so long, Jin still maintains her English with weekly practice. She has a habit of tossing foreign words into her speech when she’s particularly excited.
