The "New Girl", as she had been so dubbed, finally forewent the silence she had maintained up until that point, running a hand casually through the long portion of her hair, white with tips as silver in colour as her pale eyes, quite unlike the short shaved black of the opposite side. "Wow~." She drawled, her tone and expression equal parts sly and brimming with amusement. The look and sound of someone who always gave off the impression of knowing something nobody else knew. "I wasn't expecting a speech like that. You lot sure talk a lot, don't you?"

In an oddly fluid line of movement, she shifted into a leisurely stretch before rising to her feet from where she had previously been sitting and crossing her arms over her chest with one finger held to her blue-grey painted lips. "You celebrities are really trusting the vocals entirely to someone you don't even know, though, huh? Pretty ballsy stuff~" Vell took a second then to scan the group briefly, that roguish gaze analyzing. It was a bit early to have a solid idea of how each one of them worked, yet, but they at least looked like they would play hard. Even if their motivations were scattered and weak, and their apparent leader apparently lacking in either confidence or a backbone.

Either one would be a problem, if it weren't for one thing.

She gave Jacob another seemingly unimpressed once-over, then turned away and began to walk toward the waiting room exit with an airy wave of her hand. "As for all this talk of cheating, while I do love a good trick, I'd say we don't need it. After all, we've got professionals, a big band, and some good looking baby blues on our side. And to top it all off, if there's one thing I'm good at..." Here she paused, hand on the door, to shoot them all a wily grin over her shoulder as she continued.
"...It's puttin' on a show~"

He hadn't even realized that he'd been left alone.

Even if others had remained around him, though, the vacant young man wouldn't have noticed them. All that he could see was the splatters of red and the broken bodies. All that he could hear was the whispers, still hissed and unintelligible, yet somehow so loud, pounding in his ears as as overwhelmingly as his own pulse was. His breath felt loud, too. Why was it so loud? It was loud, wasn't it? Or was it just that everything else was so quiet?

The thought slipped away from him as swiftly as any other as his slowly meandering gaze fell upon the man who was sitting and eating so calmly in the middle of it all, causing a twist of confusion in the hooded boy's head.

It was... a normal thing, wasn't it? He thought it was, anyway. It was hard to remember. But it was wrong somehow, wasn't it? Or was it? Was he mistaken? After all, it was a normal thing...

No.

It was wrong.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

And now he slowly realized that there was someone ahead of him who was moving toward the wrongness.

The whispers were practically drowning him, now. He couldn't even hear his heartbeat anymore over them. He could almost hear what one of them was saying...

Suddenly, there was the sensation of a touch upon his arm, and he immediately flinched away with a wordless shout, covering his head with his arms as if to shield himself from whatever the monster had in store for him.

Unexpectedly, a proper introduction. The first one she'd been offered in the time she'd been there so far. Everyone else had just asked who she was, like she was some foreign presence or freak, before swiftly forgetting her and moving on without waiting for an answer. While that wasn't all that unusual for her, the prospect of a real exchange of names and handshakes like equals was a welcome one, and the hardy woman found herself appreciating the simple decency of it.

"Ferra." She introduced herself in return as she unfolded her arms and accepted the offered hand. Larger than hers, and rough, but that seemed only natural to one who had been born and raised around gritty working men. She was probably grittier than he was, at least, and her grip was likely just as firm and rough.

"Ain't so much a matter of where, much as it is a matter of timing for some things, seems like." The mottled woman remarked, though she considered his explanation plausible for the most part. "If I could manage to snag the Sergeant's attention for more than three seconds so I could report in, I'd be up for joining you."

There was some conversation that occurred. Maybe. He wasn't really certain, and kept slipping back in and out of thought again, so none of it really stuck. The whispers were quietly trying to claim his attention, too, further muddling anything that he might have heard otherwise. Not that any of it seemed to matter. It all seemed to go by very quickly, yet also so very, very slowly. Without realizing it, he was already once again following where the child led him, although his pace slowed when she ceased to tug him along, as though the lack of persistent direction left him without motivation. Still, his feet continued to carry him forward almost automatically rather than by intention.

He didn't notice how long he was walking for. He barely even noticed the little group of people who he was inadvertently following, for that matter, simply going with the flow that had been started for him until his dampened senses were met by a bitter smell and the sight of something red.

Something red and wrong.

Brows knit faintly in a sort of confusion as charcoal grey eyes slowly raised to see the rest, panning drowsily across the scene which he couldn't wrap his elusive thoughts around. His face showed no signs any of it having made any more impression upon him than anything else had thus far, yet he immediately came to a stop, completely and utterly still.

Sipping casually at her drink as the pair immediately began to converse amongst themselves, she now turned her eyes to from the man to size up the other woman he had addressed as Grace. She was pale, the mechanic noted, but nothing that struck her as particularly unusual. While this one was possibly the fairest she'd seen before, there were all sorts in the world, and white people were all fairly pale as far as she was concerned. Not that she could entirely exclude herself from that assessment. After all, she had a fair amount of pale to be found on herself, too.

Regardless, this 'Grace' didn't seem sickly in any way, so she assumed that it was natural and didn't think anything more of it.

More interesting, rather, was once the woman had gone off to presumably get the drinks that the pair seemed to think their other companion wasn't going to make it to. It was then that the man -Elliot, she thought she'd heard him called- took out a little book from one of his pockets. She hadn't meant to read it, intending instead to mind her own business. Yet the movement had just caught her eye, and she'd just happened glance over and see that the book was labelled rather brazenly as "Secret Codebook".

Surprised by the simple irony of it, one of her dark eyebrows raised slightly in wry amusement as a slight smile touched her lips, though she swiftly glanced away and did her best to hide it by raising her cup to her mouth.

However, the scene of a woman too prim and pretty to be a soldier asking for directions across the way interrupted her amusement, and the remark that Elliot made thereafter was enough to chase it off entirely. It was for the best, anyway, as she was then able to meet his gaze seriously when he again addressed her. "I don't." She answered honestly. "Just arrived, myself, and haven't even been able to properly report in yet with all that going on." To emphasize what she was referring to, she waved a hand briefly toward the direction in which the reporter had gone to visit the sarge. "...Let alone get to know who does what around here. Might be some out by the Walkers, though, and I'd be willing to tag along once I'm cleared for it if you need yourself a tech.

Name: Vellaxir Silnara Hebel

Appearance:

Age: 17

Bio: Vell was found performing simple magic shows on the street for money when she was seven by the Hebel family. Being a very compassionate couple, they took her in and adopted her. How she came to be on the street where she was found is unknown, and if she does remember, she is not the sort to divulge that information.

She never stopped learning stage magic, though, even in her new home. The flare and mystery of it drawing her in to accumulate every new skill and trick of the trade that she could find, until that tendency to put on a show had become such a part of who she was that it reflected in her everyday life through how she would toy with people to get a rise out of them.

And in her career choice.

In addition to stage magic, Vell was always naturally talented at real magic. Oddly -or perhaps appropriately- moreso in the sorts that are more useful for stealth than for show, although she does tend to make a show of those as well when given the chance. Nevertheless, it was this talent which landed her the opportunity to get into Ishtar.

Mundane Skills: Hand-to-Hand Combat, Knife Combat, Knife Throwing, Acrobatics, Stage Magic, Sleight of hand, Stealth, Thievery, Lock-picking, Deception, Disguise, Misdirection, Psychology, Intimidation, Appraisal... generally just things that are needed for sneaking, stealing, assassination, and freaking people out (mainly for fun). She is also pretty good at singing, and at putting on a show.

Magic: Vell specializes in Tactile Displacement magic, with a particular focus in guerrilla combat and prestidigitation applications. One could alternatively cite her specialty as being in short-range teleportation and mirror magics.

Spells:
Vanishing Act - A short-range teleportation skill. She can teleport anywhere that she can see or knows well enough within 100ft. It is possible to teleport to unknown places within range, but that would greatly risk winding up somewhere deadly.

Misdirection - As well as being able to teleport herself, Vell can teleport objects and entities that she touches with the same range restrictions, even being able to send them on without her. This is most often used for conveniently relocating objects such as cards, knives, and acquired goods.

Smoke Screen - A simple spell used to create a puff of smoke for use in covering or distracting from a quick exit, or otherwise as a means of obscuring vision in a given area. This is the only spell that she currently has in her repertoire which does not require touch in order to work.

Through the Looking Glass - The ability to travel through mirrors. When she touches a mirror of a size reasonable for her to fit through, Vell is able to move in and out of the world reflected therein. Once inside, she can use her teleporting ability to travel to any mirror of any size within the same range of 100ft, provided of course that she already knows their location.

Catoptrap - A target can be pushed or pulled into a mirror that she is touching, provided that she is also in contact with said target. The target will be unable to escape until ten minutes have passed, unless she decides to release them herself beforehand.

Caputo Effect - Upon touching a mirror, she may opt to go into a trance which allows her to locate any mirror anywhere and replace a person's reflection in order to speak to them. Others may also call her to a mirror by saying her name three times (yes, that is how she arranged it) in front of it, as the spell is received by her personal compact mirror. She must focus in order to locate previously unknown mirrors, but no focus is required to answer calls.

Personality: Vell is a mysterious sort, though not due to brooding nature or quiet maturity. Rather, she simply likes to keep people guessing, and when she does answer personal questions it can be difficult to tell whether she is being earnest or simply joking. She comes off as quite the sadistic bad-girl, being exceptionally devious and prone to deliberately scaring people just for a laugh. In addition, she is exceptionally cunning and good at reading people. All the better to find out what would best give them chills, after all. Overall, anyone would say that she is a villain.

But perhaps that is just smoke and mirrors.

He followed her easily, allowing her to lead him by the hand without a second thought. Or a first thought, for that matter. He didn't notice much of anything aside from the fact that walking felt oddly disconnected. Like he was just a spectator watching from inside somebody else's head as they moved about. The flickering lights, too, looked strange. He could see so many colours in them.

These things were only passing thoughts rather than deep considerations, however, and he barely even realized that he had stopped still in the hallway the moment that Dolly had left his side. He could still hear her talking, though. Half of what she said was lost in the muddle of his mind, or perhaps it just didn't make much sense to him. But he did catch her asking his name. A question which set him lethargically pondering the answer, slowly raising his hands and turning them over to look at them. The lights and colours danced across his fingers unnaturally, and he could see an afterimage of them as he spread them out. But they didn't appear to hold any clues for him.

He hadn't much time to wonder over it, anyway. A horrible screeching sound promptly rent the air, chasing away any halting thoughts that he had and replacing them with pure, mindless instinct. Immediately, his hands flew to clutch his head. A shout tore free from his throat, only to be lost in the deafening noise. Then the hallway was plunged into darkness, and everything went eerily silent.

But not for him.

For him, the darkness was overflowing with voices. Whispers that had seemed before to be distant background noise, but now sounded close and excited; harsh and cold; surrounding and clawing at him like countless hands reaching desperately to grab him and drag him down into the inky black. His breathing grew faster and shallower. It felt like something, somewhere, were breaking open. That was what the whispers wanted. Most of them were in some terrifying unknown language, and there were too many and too much haziness to understand even the ones that weren't. But he could feel that they wanted him to let them through, like a muscle memory.

He wanted to fall to the ground and cover his head, but before his body could follow through, another collided with it, causing him to freeze and his breath to catch as it clung to him. The boy hesitated for a moment before, very slowly and haltingly, lowering his arms to wrap around the child in return.

It was uncertain for how long they were left standing there huddled in the dark. It felt like ages. A nightmarish eternity, even. But time was fairly fluid for him in his present state, and eventually the lights did return. He opened his eyes to look around warily as soon as they did, spotting what looked like a few hairline cracks running across the walls around them, but they had vanished by the time the little girl had raised her head from his shirt. That gave him an uneasy feeling somewhere deep in his chest, but the haze was once again weighing over him now that instinct was no longer needed. Such that when Dolly moved away he remained dully in place, looking around equally as dully, the speaker announcements passing over him unrecognized but for a slight flinch at their onset.
