Mergoux froze as the voice spoke in her mind. Her lips formed a snarl as she locked eyes with the speaker, though his mouth did not move. She didn't know the man's name, but the face seemed somehow familiar. Perhaps she'd spotted him earlier in the crowd, or just at some point in the past month she'd spent here.

The man knew her, something that rather surprised the Warrior as she hadn't been to Venedig in nearly thirty years, and while her last visit had been marred with blood she thought it unlikely that her notoriety would have lasted so long in this city. He spoke to her of a plot, a plot to make life harder for the slave traders. That was all well and good, but Mergoux didn't particularly want to make life hard for the Slavers, as much as take it from them. Still, it was a step in the right direction at least, perhaps this stranger had noble goals in mind?

Regardless, she wasn't about to trust him so easily, however, she couldn't follow him now. She'd been made, and no doubt his guards would keep an eye peeled for her. If she was to recruit the Eidelweiss brothers as allies, she'd have to first free them from their master. Such a feat was not something she could attempt in broad daylight, in the middle of a throng of nobles buying slaves, low-born watching their former masters becoming lower than they, and guards keeping eyes peeled for any trouble.

No, for now she would fall back. Perhaps she could still find a way to disrupt the sale, but she'd need to plan an exit first. Her eyes locked on the plump auctioneer, his jowls quivering with excitement as he proudly announced the final bid on an older man and was now speaking to a woman with a staff, who seemed to be wanting to buy a pair of slaves. A woman and a man. Yes... that would cause a bit of a ruckus...

Working on a post but unsure quite what to do... I'd like to get into running my character alongside some of you lovely people outside of our equally lovely GM, so I'll ruminate on it and post tomorrow methinks.

Also sadly, can't Co-GM either, got real-life stuff and other writing stuff keeping me too busy for that sorry.
Mergoux the Butcher

From her perch, high on the roof of one of the surrounding buildings, Mergoux watched the slave-slave progress. The sun beat down upon her helmeted head, but she did not mind its heat, solely focused on the events conspiring before her. Her hand twitched towards her crossbow, but she knew that acting now would be foolish. Too many people... she thought to herself. She wanted badly to act, to put a stop to this... evil, but she was only one, and she counted at least forty guards over the slaves, not to count the Noble bodyguards.

As it was, all she could do was watch. Watch as families were torn apart, starting with one she surprisingly knew of. She was never much one to keep track of which noble houses were feuding with each other, being more concerned with her hunt, but even she knew the Eidelweiss family. Her interest piqued, she watched their sale, eyeing the two youngest boys with interest. A fighter-paladin and a doctor? At those ages? Prodigies no doubt, and judging by the defiant looks on their faces, they weren't about to be cowed into servitude so easily.

As the plan formed quickly in her mind, Mergoux was already on her feet, moving across the roof and sneaking back through the window she'd come out of. The building was public, but not the part Mergoux had snuck into to get to the roof, and as she stepped back inside, a guard rounded the corner of the hallway. "What the-" he began, surprised to see the Warrior climbing into the building. Taking advantage of his momentary shock, Mergoux bolted, sprinting down the hallway away from him. "Stop!" shouted the guard, giving chase. Ordinarily, Mergoux would be able to outpace most guards, but this one was young, fit, and he knew the building a whole lot better than she did.

Left, right, then left again. Mergoux ran down mercifully empty hallways, the majority of workers in the building having abandoned their posts to watch the proceedings outside. Risking a look over her shoulder, she saw the guard had vanished. Good, she'd lost him, or so she thought. She looked back just in time to slam into him. He'd taken a shortcut apparently. Her momentum bowled them both over, but she was first to her feet. The guard scrambled hastily to his own, expecting the woman to run, but Mergoux had had enough running for one day.

She curled her hands into fists around the hilts of two oddly-shaped weapons at her hips. They were knuckle-daggers, long knives with knuckle-dusters built into the grips. The guard managed to get his sword halfway from its sheath before he was sent reeling back, blood spurting from a suddenly broken nose. Reactionary tears filled his eyes, clouding his vision as he fell over, howling with pain.

"Stay down," she told him, voice thick with a Nordic accent. He complied, though Mergoux wasn't sure if he'd even heard her. Still, the threat was dealt with. He'd be fine, not something many who had met the Butcher could proclaim. Mergoux sheathed her daggers and made her way down three flights of stairs and out into the courtyard, whereupon the rest of the nobles were in the process of being sold. She glanced over just in time to see the two brothers being lead away by their chains. She couldn't lose sight of them! She didn't know the face of the man who bought them! Mergoux began pushing her way through the crowd, making a beeline for the two brothers, her eyes fixed on her targets.

WOOOOO! LET'S GOOOO BOIS!

I think I'll wait for one or two other people to post before I go in with Merg. My plans might cause a little... disruption.
I see. I don't really like most Isekai works, as they waste perfectly good story ideas.

I think they work better for comedic purposes than actual drama. Scoobynatural is one example of what I think is great Isekai style works. Taking Sam, Dean and Cass from Supernatural, an already humorous and 4th-wall-breaking show, and then putting them inside a Scooby-Doo cartoon was genuinely hilarious
Updated my character post, inspired by @Aqutanama's character, I added some flaws.
Name: Mergoux
Age: 87
Physical Description: Mergoux stands at six feet tall. She is lithe and lean, her body hard with muscle. Her black hair flows a little past her shoulder and portions of it are usually braided to keep out of her face. Her face would be pretty but for the scar that runs down from just under her left eye to her jaw, along with the fact that Mergoux never, ever, smiles. Her ears are long and pointed like her elven mother's, and are laden heavily with piercings. Studs and rings in gold, silver, and platinum.

Tattoos decorate her body as well, though most are covered by the armor she almost always wears over her thick, leather jerkin. Of the ones ever visible are the dwarven runes on her chin, reading 'Butcher' and the intricate ones on either arm. Starting with manacles tattooed at the wrist, chains wrap halfway up her arm, only to break at the elbow, shattering and morphing into vines that reach up and spill across her upper chest. On either shoulder, the vines wrap around two symbols. One is a circle of eight coins, the other a flower with eight petals. Finally, on the back of her neck, nearly always covered by her hair, there is a slaver's branding mark.

Important items: Mergoux's most treasured possessions are but three.
1. She wields a large, two-handed sword she named 'Talon'. Expertly crafted and enchanted to make it lighter, she strikes with uncanny speed and skill, born of carrying the blade for over half a decade.
2. Her crossbow of dwarven design. Though a bit larger and ungainly, the weapon is surprisingly quick to load and above all, powerful and accurate at long range. What's more, Mergoux is a crack shot.
3. The Safeguard, a spiked helmet of magical origin. Wearing it conceals most of Mergoux's face and head, allowing her to pass for human with ease. What's more, the steel is enchanted with a spell that negates any kinetic energy that impacts it. An arrow would fall lifeless to the ground, a powerful mace blow would merely result in a slight clunk of metal on metal.

Short Bio: Born as Thalia Coldstone to Jared and Elaina Coldstone, an unusual pairing of an Elf and a Human, Thalia did not much enjoy her childhood. Raised in a rather narrow-minded village, she was bullied often and cruelly by the other children for her half-breed nature. Finally it all culminated in several older boys beating on the then 8-year old Half-Elf. It is said perhaps this is where the got her facial scar. Soon after, the Coldstones left down and headed off to live with Elaina's family. They never arrived, for their caravan was attacked by marauding bandits. Thalia was forced to watch her parents die in front of her, and was then taken as a slave by those who had attacked and killed the only family she knew.

The next twelve years were hard for the girl, working under a cruel master, a self-proclaimed Bandit King, hiding deep within the mountains. During that time she worked hard as a labor slave in the cold mountain air, building up her body's strength and resilience until the King himself decided he'd sooner have the unusual young woman as his own 'personal attendant'. She fought back, and it is rumored this is where she received her scar. Two years later, she escaped, mutilating the Bandit King in the process, leaving him cursed to hobble along on one leg for the rest of his life, the other ruined by a blow to the knee by a mace.

She came close to death on the mountainside but was rescued by a group of mercenaries. They nursed her back to health and took her to the local Lord, where with her help they located the Bandit King's stronghold and destroyed it.

After that, Thalia joined the local army. Proving to be a natural with a blade, over the next five years she advanced in rank to that of Sergeant, until one day she and her unit came upon a small encampment of Bandits, many of whom had served under the Bandit king. Against previous orders to scout and observe and wait for backup, Thalia lead her unit into battle against the bandits. She lost half of her twelve men, and when reinforcements arrived to witness the acts of violence and cruelty she was showing the captured bandits, her time in the army was over.

After leaving the army, no-one heard from her for nearly a decade until one day, she turned up again. She claimed a dead or alive bounty on a bandit, and when asked to give her name for the reward, she replied Mergoux. Thalia Coldstone was gone, now there was Mergoux. The next fifty years were marked with blood. Quickly acquiring the moniker of 'The Butcher' for her sadistic, violent tendencies, Mergoux carved her way across the outer lands. She killed not for money, not for fame or glory, not even because she enjoyed doing it, though she did. She killed to prevent what had happened to her from happening to anyone else. She killed to stop cruelty, to protect the weak. She didn't even stop at simple bandits and maruaders. More than a few tyrannical officials of villages and towns wound up losing their head to her blade, the number of legal slavers killed by her numbers in the dozens.

Now, she comes to the city, hearing of a massive slave auction and hoping to put some kind of a stop to it. With her talent for violence, she is confident that she'll be able to at least put a dent in the slavers numbers.
