World Trigger: Surge

So with World Trigger season 2 being recently confirmed, I figured now would be a good time to try and roll out some of my ideas here. I will play the world around the player characters and shape everything for you guys to have fun! Fancy rising in the ranks for as the best fighter? Go for it! Want to join other players and form a team with the intention of reaching A rank? Sure thing! Join the NPC's team? Yep, you can do that too! Want to see what secrets are in store for the Neighborhood or want to prioritize the homefront? You can totally do both! For those that do not know anything about World Trigger, that's okay! Players will be starting as brand new recruits and you can take things as slow or fast as you want. Feel free to look the series up and read about it, too.

There will be a light stat system helping to determine a player's effective role. The system is only in place to help with estimated results but thinking outside of the box can help you punch above your numbers. These numbers can grow over time upon IC milestones. The stats are: Trion, Attack, Defense, Mobility, Skill, Special. Again, I want to emphasize that stats are by no means the rule but general guidelines for the story.

Stats Expanded

Trion - Trion is the amount of energy somebody has. It is crucial to a lot of aspects within this universe but the most important to remember is that it determines how long you can fight. Higher Trion levels will afford a player greater endurance. They can shoot more bullets, keep fighting with Trion leaking injuries, and so on. How it works in the IC will be that I will hint in my posts about how your character is feeling on this level.

Attack - This value determines your general success in offense in melee. The value is how well you can inflict, and the degree of injury, to an opponent. This value paired with Trion will determine the strength of special offensive trigger abilities.

Defense - Avoiding attacks is just as valuable and a value here will determine your sense to avoid damage in close quarters. It also helps your resilience against injuries, leaking less Trion overall. Like the Attack value, Defense paired with Trion will determine the strength of shield trigger abilities.

Mobility - This will determine how fast you can move on a general basis and it will help you for evasion.

Skill - Skill is crucial for gunners or ranged abilities as it affects the accuracy. There is also a pairing with Trion and will amplify the power of ranged Trion based abilities.

Special - A miscellaneous skill that will cover some story aspects. At the start, however, a higher value here will reward the player with a side effect, a passive ability. Later in the story this value will also give the player 'luck' to encounter a trainer or inventor for unique abilities like Geist, dual-form weapons, obtaining a Black Trigger, etc. Higher 'luck' will mean you might encounter the chance to learn these sooner and have a better grasp at learning them efficiently.

Another aspect of customization is deciding how to build your character. There are an number of different classes in Border and that depends on how you build your Trigger, the weapon system in this universe. First you choose whether you want to be an Attacker (focuses on melee) or Shooter (focuses on ranged). There are eight slots in a Border Trigger to be used for modifications that alter your strategy and a few different weapon types as well.

The basics of it is you have 8 slots to place triggers into and these are freely changeable outside of combat.

As for the story basics, Border has been facing increasing pressure from Neighbor raids. They believe something big is on horizon and have stepped up recruiting efforts. The player characters are some of those new recruits.

Lore Expanded

World Trigger is mostly based around Mikado City in Japan. It is the only place Neighbors can use to enter our world and as a result, it is the headquarters for Border, the defense force for Earth. Neighbors come from parallel planets in kind of a separate universe system known as the Neighborhood. There are numerous different worlds and each have their own agendas when it comes to Earth. Border was established about 30 years before the IC start date. They are the defenders of Earth that learned how to use Neighbor technology, Triggers, to combat the invaders.

At the center of all this conflict is a substance known as Trion. It is an energy that exists in people and Neighbors alike. It has been the centerstone for development on the Neighbors planets and it has now started to develop Earth as well. You can take a look at the wiki page for some more reading about it.

It had been a few years but his police dress coat had still fit, an ironic thought considering how far Vincent's morality has strayed from 'Protect and Serve'. Evidence of this change was in the wear down or removal of any indication this was a police jacket. The badge was no longer proudly displayed and in its place on the lapel of the jacket was a Blackjack Viola, a flower whose blackish violet color masked itself into the dark colors of the jacket. There were other options to potentially commit for a uniform that was to be the very image of rebellion against the, as she so poetically described, "systematic disease" of society, but the image of a fallen guardian as it were was to precious to pass.

In truth, Vincent's initial rage against the system wasn't really aimed at grander ambitions. Although he did believe the system was wrong, he initially thought that he'd only really be satisfied with revenge against the individual who chose saving another over his Emily. Yet when that opportunity came and justice was carried out, he felt emptier. There was no purpose for him anymore but he still felt a calling to do something more. Others will face the same grief he had and others will form grudges to despise those that were unfairly saved. It was a sick society and not many people saw that. It was best to remove that blight.

Associating with others who were trying for the same goals was the idea. Thus he was brought here to an unassuming warehouse for some purpose. It was bound to be a waste of time, most likely. Sure enough as he peered into the partially opened door, he heard the beginnings of a conversation. He slipped inside, the details of the conversation becoming more understood and subsequently concluded as trash. "Oh god..." He loudly sighed announcing his entrance as she strode forward, head dropped as his hand rubbed his forward in a disappointed expression. "...please tell me you were not talking about what is or is not fashionable." Shaking his head for a moment, he shrugged with a smile slighted into his expression. "Ah well, that is to be expected when women mingle. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised." He lifted his head, one eye scanning the individuals gathered. "Is this everybody, then?" He asked with a tone that sounded a bit disappointed.

Crossed armed and looking on as her classmates socialized, Namie felt like she was the odd one out. She felt like she didn't want to be here contrasting herself greatly with those that were present. It just made her feel weird and it was something that was making her put herself on the outside. It wasn't like that was hindering her but everything up to this point had been evaluated on individual effort. A far cry from what she experienced from working as a team, she was beginning to think hero academies were more about cutthroat competition rather than teamwork. Sure, she could probably be more social and make friends but what was the point when competitiveness would drive them apart? It happened with friends from other baseball teams so why wouldn't it happen here? No, it was better to be ahead of the curve.

Namie's lips tightened as she felt disappointed that other person who seemed to 'get it', Steven, betrayed that outlook by thrusting himself into that group. He kept to himself too for awhile before this. It might have been encouraging if it were not for the sudden mauling by several individuals criticizing him. She frowned as she was becoming quite bothered by the reception the others had to him but she kept her lips sealed. It did help provide evidence for her belief that everyone here was just trying to step on each other to get ahead. Sure, they seemed friendly but it was a trick or something.

Namie wasn't sure but she kept out of it, focusing instead of trying to figure out what she was being graded on today. She had a high fiber breakfast this morning and was ready to push herself. Her mind started to drift off, regretting that she was swayed to join the academy. She wasn't very happy here.

"Hobbies are important, mom. One must keep their mind preoccupied otherwise they will drive themselves insane." Vincent spoke in a hushed tone and yet his voice was smooth, carrying the vibe of an evening radio DJ. Maybe that's his mother called as much as she did. It was anyone's guess since she hadn't really cared before. Whatever her response was, his attention hadn't wavered from the bed of flowers before him. All sorts of colors, shapes, and patterns lay before his scanning gaze. Gardening was a craft that didn't require careful attentiveness as the flowers did most of the work but it was one that you could really get into for perfect flowers.

"Yes, you say that every time I mention my garden but I can assure you, I have moved on since Emily's death. I've found..." Vincent paused as he caught the sight of a small honey bee that was circling one of his flowers. He reached out and gently coaxed it onto his finger. "...New purpose in life. You don't have to worry about me." His words still calm as he brought the creeping insect up to eye level. His inspection so close that the bee could, if it cared to, listen in on what his mother said back through the phone's speaker.

"Of course. Talk to you later." His tone never betrayed his true emotion. He hung up, slipping the phone into a pocket, and then he reached out for a small stone. Never taking his eyes off the bee, he dropped the stone into his watering pail and then with a sudden poof, the bee disappeared and the stone appeared on the back of his hand. He rolled his hand and the stone slid off. He rose to his feet, picked up his watering pail, and walked back towards his small house as if not sparing another thought about what he did.

However, that bee was the only thing on his mind. Why had it selected the roses and not the violas? What made that one flower more worthy of pollination than the others? The other flowers deserved the chance to have a pollinator just as much that rose. Vincent's mind twisted around these and many other questions as he absently dressed himself for work. He continued to dwell on these thoughts even into his shift. A coworker would ask, "why the long face?" to which Vincent gave the truth. "Why the roses?" But the coworker wouldn't understand. Violas were Emily's favorite and yet that bee couldn't even spare a second thought to help the violas when there roses in need. Was it because the bee preferred roses?

After his shift had ended, his mind still brooded about the reality of the bee's choice. Both flowers, both in the same flower bed, and both in need, yet the choice was made. Save the rose but fail to save the viola. That choice was being made everyday in this world and the fact that it was happening was a sickening thought. It had to end. Here and now. For Emily.

In short, [Matter State] uses specialized glands under the skin turn viscous fiber into a maple syrup-like liquid that can secreted from the body. The user of this Quirk can mentally alter the state of matter this substance is in by altering the temperature, making it warmer to turn into a gas and colder to turn into a solid. The boiling and freezing points are relatively low in energy requirements as in, in order for the for the user to turn the liquid into a gas, one just has to think about the liquid getting warmer until it reaches around 100 *F and for the solid around 20*F. The user can alter the temperature at their best so long as the substance is touching them and may struggle with temperature altering when the substance is away from their body. It isn't impossible to manipulate the state of matter of the substance away from the person but requires great concentration to achieve distant manipulation due to the requirement of linkage with the material, severely ramping difficult with distant from the substance (a feat Namie struggles with presently). The substance in all forms is noted to be quite dense, sinking to the bottom of a glass of water in both solid and liquid states. The user of this Quirk must maintain a high fiber diet and overuse of their Quirk will result in extreme dietary fiber loss. Low fiber in the body means that they will have horrid bowel activities and can even risk some more severe consequences of too much Quirk use.

The San Fransisco Coyotes will fall just short for the second year as your reigning champions, the Sacramento Saints, will remain the California Junior League Champions. 7-2, tonight, I'm sure the Coyotes were looking for more on their rematch but against a pitcher whose Quirk was..."

The loudspeaker faded into a rambled mummer as layers of concrete shielded Namie from hearing the disappointing recap. It was her last year in the Juniors and despite her best efforts to win this time, she couldn't win the championship. However, her disappointment reached new heights under the realization that she'd never get the call for the Majors. If she had lead her team to a win tonight, she might have impressed some people in spite of not possessing a Quirk that didn't help her in baseball. Unfortunately, the Bigs were saturated with players that had advantageous Quirks since their limited allowance in play, leaving those without little chance.

It was quiet in the locker room as many of the other Coyote players brooded over playing their last game with a loss. It didn't help quell any of her feelings as she passed wordlessly towards her locker and absently, she started clearing it out. There was a lot going through her mind that she hardly recognized how automatic her movements were. Grief that it was over with a loss, anger at unfairness of it all, confusion at what happens next. She didn't even notice her head coach called to her quietly until his hand tapped her shoulder.

Namie jolted slightly as she turned around, surprised that someone was even bothering. "Namie, ah sorry if I scared you." He said to which she began shaking her head, "Oh.. no, I-" She began but was cut off by her coach continuing. "Nah, I get it. Look, I just want to congratulate you on a great last season. You put a lot of work into this team and you were certainly one of our finest." He kept his hand on her shoulder this whole time but finally gave it a light squeeze before recalling it. He nodded with a reaffirming smile but his lips curled back like he wanted to say something.

"Oh well thanks, coach." Namie muttered awkwardly as she turned away to stuff her towel into her bag. She just wanted to leave but with her coach still lingering there, she felt like he definitely had something on his mind. She paused, looking up from her bag eyes trailing up before they stopped suddenly, settling on the small pin displaying the bust of All-Might. It was no secret her head coach was a fan and had often recited inspirational quotes during team practices and meetings. Her coach seemed to have noticed where Namie's attention was and that might have encouraged him to finally offer what was eating at his mind.

"Look, the Majors are shooting themselves by not making you an offer..." Namie clenched her teeth hearing that, regretting ever admitting her feelings about it to her coach. She wanted to just stop him there but he had too much of her respect for her to do that. "But I think you're meant for a different profession. With your work ethic, fierce competitiveness, and your Quirk, you should really consider applying to a hero academy. You'd do really well and far and away better than just being a Majors baseball player."

Her fist rolled into a ball. This was not what she wanted to hear right now, to just give up on her actual dream for... becoming a hero. He had to be joking but searching the man's face, she found nothing to betray his words. She lightened as she let out a sigh. With how much her coach admired heroes (especially All Might), she knew he was not making this suggestion lightly. If he truly thought she was qualified, then there was no better time to approach her now... right? Was she really considering it? "I don't know, coach. Maybe but I'll need a moment to think about it..."
