TL;DR version: vampires and sapient undead are A) unageing, and B) by nature have huge amounts of mana to throw around.

"Well, you're all right... sort of," she said, cutting off any more answers could come in, though from the expression she directed at Gillian, she wasn't entirely pleased with the long-winded explanation or the unnecessary detail. "The blue circle contains entities that have a soul, which is why anyone in these three groups is able to think and act independently. You can also think of this as 'people I will get arrested for attacking in passing'."

That look was directed at the Reonites. "If you somehow identify another vampire in passing, you can't stab them just for existing. _{We don't need another diplomatic incident with the Academy of Meridan...}"

She scratched her head, clearly trying to remember her train of thought. "Anyway, the red circle is undead, or beings animated by magic. Mindless undead are just puppeted by the magic animating them and most necromancers have no interest in using more to prevent the decay. You might find some that are well-preserved because they wanted to keep some combat proficiency, or whatever caused them to rise up is just oozing it, but in general they're going to fall apart.

"What sapient undead and vampires have in common is having so much mana that it replicates most of the functionality of the life-providing portion of the soul and keeps it anchored in place far beyond fatal injuries. Eating, sleeping, thinking, reflexes; about the only thing it doesn't emulate is growth or natural healing. Half alive, as it were, but never ageing. Sapient undead have the mana reactor Reynaud mentioned, vampires... well, it's something to do with intrinsic blood sacrifice. I don't know how, whatever necromancy did that happened before anyone except the gods remember."

"Well... probably. Some elves and undead are annoyingly old." Hearing this coming from someone over two centuries old but looking about nine wasn't all that reassuring.

"What these have in common," Tyaethe continued, underlining the sapient undead and vampires for emphasis before turning back, "Is that they always have a vast mana reserve before replenishment comes into it. All vampires did even before being turned. Even if a vampire is starving and can't possibly replace what they use, what does this tell you about the type of enemy you're going to be fighting?"

Fate/illuminated histoire: A Narrative-Driven Holy Grail War RP

Golden

• Name: Sakata Kintoki
• Class: Berserker
• Appearance: Golden.
• Personality: A rowdy and insolent man, Kintoki unreasonably takes after the time and place of his summoning and dresses as a gaudy delinquent. A man that loves fighting, it would be easy to think he's just a violent barbarian hero, but he's an extremely heroic figure: opposing all things evil, adoring children, and bearing no ill will towards other enemies. Still, that doesn't mean that Kintoki is an incredibly complicated person: he adores strong things, flashy things, and especially anything golden. Weak to love.
  Fatally incompatible with an evil Master, but otherwise super easy to get along with, especially when one treats him as an equal. This is useful, because the Master's going to have to do all the hard thinking for them.

However, if injured, a luck check is performed and failure will cause Kintoki to go berserk and receive a rank-up to all stats except mana and luck.

  • Animal Communication: C. Allows for communication with animals that can't speak. However, the intellect of the animals is no better than ever, so conveying complex or nuanced thoughts is still impossible. Despite this, and perhaps because of Kintoki's own mentality, they still arrive at a mutual understanding.
  • Divinity: D. The child of Raijin in the form of a thunderclap (or perhaps a dragon), which would normally result in high Divinity, and a mountain witch, which instead reduces it. Although low, it can sometimes activate as resistance towards the attacks of heroes descended from a thunder deity.
  • Monstrous Strength: A+. The child of Raijin as a dragon and a cannibal mountain witch, Kintoki possesses this skill at a very high rank despite not being a monster himself. Not only can it be activated with an extremely long duration, it allows for his already boosted strength to exceed human limitations and compete with monsters directly.
  • Natural Body: A. The possession of a perfect body since birth. Strength is always treated as rank-up and, no matter the amount of exercise or calorific consumption, his muscles will remain as brawny as ever and he won't put on any further weight. Could perhaps be considered cheating for sports competitions and insufficiently ridiculous for bodybuilding.

  • Type: Anti-Unit
  • Appearance: Shiny.
  • Effects: An immensely heavy axe, unwieldable without Kintoki's level of strength, that contains the power of the thunder god. Loaded up with fifteen cartridges, its destructive power is raised with their detonation. It no doubt has a more appropriate and less flashy name, but Kintoki activates it using this.

  • Type: Anti-Army
  • Appearance: Unreasonably golden.
  • Effects: By detonating three of the fifteen cartridges simultaneously, an anti-army attack can be activated that releases a flash of lightning to mow down surrounding enemies.

  • Rank: A
  • Type: Anti-Army
  • Appearance: It's a giant robot.
  • Effects: An unreasonably large construct and... exactly what it looks like. Without somehow being provided with a weapon of comparable size, its only weapon appears to be its unreasonably huge left arm. Conversely, it's still a giant, armoured Noble Phantasm and every bit as dangerous as a mecha could be expected to be. Probably not its true name.
• Alignment: Lawful Good
• Changes: Being in Japan provides the missing Noble Phantasm.

From somewhere, the diminutive paladin had managed to wrangle a reasonably sizeable blackboard and set it up, along with steps so that she could actually reach closer to the top of the surface. Already drawn onto it were three childish drawings of humanoid figures, oddly contrasted with neatly written, almost scribe-like labels: alive, sapient undead, and vampire. A fourth sketch of a skeleton was left unlabelled, assuming that what it represented should be obvious based on the context. Having produced some coloured chalk, a blue ring had been drawn around the humanoid figures and a red one around the undead.

With a long pointer in hand, Tyaethe finally hopped off the steps and indicated the first group, then the second. "Can anyone tell me what these groups represent and why something would be in it?"

She was probably the smallest lecturer they'd ever see.

Where did she want to go today? Wherever her mother was, of course. But that couldn't be the answer she was looking for, so where could she go...? She had clothes, so clothes weren't needed. She didn't want to go to school again because that was boring and it wasn't somewhere that you could just go to... parks were nice but as a Servant she always had an unfair advantage in playing.

Before she could actually decide on something, Yuriko had guided her onwards towards a crying girl. Ah... that wasn't good! But why was she crying? Maybe she'd been abandoned? She couldn't have Jack's mother if that was the case but maybe if it was just someone doing something nasty that could be fixed so it wouldn't happen again.

"Um... what's wrong?"

• Name: Beni-Enma, the Tongue-Cut Sparrow
• Class: Assassin
• Appearance: Samurai bird.
• Personality: Although she appears to be a cute little girl, Beni-Enma is actually a swordsman with the bearing of a government official. She will earnestly respond to anyone whilst still being respectful no matter who they are, even if she doesn't necessarily approve of their lifestyle. Despite acting like a fair judge, she's a loyal sparrow who will cherish all favours granted to her, and surprisingly introverted despite her activeness.

• Class Skills:
  • Independent Action: A. The blessing of the Straw Raincoat of the Sage that Beni-Enma wears, which conceals its wearer and alleviates the pressure of the World to erase something which shouldn't exist. This allows her to operate without burdening her Master.
  • Presence Concealment: A. Her true nature is as an Assassin and she boasts high Presence Concealment.
• Personal Skills:
  • Mind's Eye (Fake): A. The instinctive ability to sense danger, also called the sixth sense.
  • Star Basket (Large): EX. The first technique of Enjaku Sewing: the Wicker Basket of Retribution. Two wicker boxes are withdrawn from her coat, one a metre long and the smaller about 30cm. The larger box, given to the enemy, is a container for bad luck (curses) and inflicts them when opened, and yet it still has a slight restorative effect. No matter the enemy it still retains its nature as a gift.
  • Star Basket (Small): EX. The second technique of Enjaku Sewing: the Wicker Basket of Gratitude. The same as the blessing of the sparrow that was awarded to the old man, its contents bring good fortune to those who it is given to. An incredibly strong gift, almost too good to be true... and yet it still has some benefit to the enemy, despite the leverage it should give to Beni-Enma's allies; it's still prepared as a gift for all.
  • Ventriloquism: EX. A skill no more and no less than what it says, trained extensively even to be able to talk with her tongue cut. Such extensive experience makes Beni-Enma exceptional at working around limitations that would be imposed upon her.
• Noble Phantasm(s):
  
  • Name: Judgement by the Ten Kings, Wicker Box's Fate
  • Rank: A
  • Type: Anti-Unit
  • Appearance: Albeit normally she has a sword... not a wooden spoon.
  • Effects: The third technique of Enjaku Sewing. A large wicker box is summoned and a parade of one hundred oni (though actually sparrows) is unleashed to confuse the enemy and drag them within the box for judgement. The box is taken to a banquet hall where sparrows take on the appearance of the Ten Kings of Hell wait to make judgement: a single sword stroke from Beni-Enma. Incredibly dangerous to those of Chaotic or Evil alignments, if they can be pulled within the box, yet to those who pass judgement only a hazard through its nature as a cut.
  
  
  • Name: Sparrow Reversal (Suzume Gaeshi)
  • Rank: B
  • Type: Anti-Unit
  • Appearance: N/A
  • Effects: The zeroth technique of Enjaku Sewing. At its heart, it is simply the smallest, deepest iai strike: as the enemy opens their mouth to take a breath, Beni-Enma transforms into her original sparrow size and closes in with imperceptible speed, slicing out their tongue.
    However, battles are not so simple that this can be performed and as such she instead prefaces it with six spinning slashes, only closing in for the final blow when they open their mouth to scream. Aside from the obvious effect, it has the benefit of restricting the opponent's skills temporarily.
    They certainly won't be lying afterwards.
