I think it's fair to bring up that personal petty conflicts outside and other life related drop-outs had brought this one to a general end. Which is unfortunate. Enjoyed the posts/being a part of it. I'd be willing to take a graceful bow out, if everyone else isn't super invested in continuing it.

At this point, we should be happy to have any contestants, and people who actually take the time to read and review everyone's work deserve nothing but the utmost respect.

I actually agree with that entirely.

If it's all the same to you, I'd like to start running my own "Character Contest," which would be something in the spirit of the last character sheet contest Nutty hosted. I doubt I'll be running them much later than June-July, but it's just something I'd like to try my hand at. I'm not sure if I need your permission or not, but here I am asking for it.

Actually, on that note. I know contest mods are supposed to be a thing. But I think a little community boosting may do the contest section some good. I mean let's assume some people haven't participated in contests because they didn't care for the individual topic given per month. With more than one contest open, more tastes and views can be found. At this point, getting even a few more people interested in it generally may do some good. I'd be in favor of allowing interested parties to create their own contests. Would certainly trouble/burden you less? @Frizan

As the remaining group had the righteous task to guard the cozy, albeit diminishing fire. Ravi internally prepared to lose his body heat. Refusing to come back empty handed—he didn’t have time to think of more proportionally appropriate words right now! He headed out with the other two and acted as the proverbial lookout for potential danger, while also looking for tasty morsels. Attempting to make as much use of the terrain as possible, he quickly slithered through the least drenched areas. The wind may have slowed, but the rain was still pelting upon them. The crackling thunder had likely struck down branches and hopefully some food happened to be on them...

Two obstacles laid before them; a cold puddle formed at the bottom of a slope and a shadowy forest. Though in his case, he was a snake with all the benefits that entailed. An infrared or thermal vision that bypassed that issue and helped him focus on his mission. Constantly sticking out his tongue to smell his surroundings as he carefully descended the slope.

“Well Vi can float past and probably see in the darkness? A ghost can do that right? Trevor might be able to jump over it? I’m long enough that maybe I can stretch myself without-” Ravi thoughts were cut off with Trevor doing just that. He could respect someone that takes a leap of faith. His narrow eyes twinkling as he received his request, gleefully thinking. “Yay. I’m wanted!”

“Ah. Yesss.” Ravi replied slyly. His eyes combing over the best spot to cross without getting wetter, soon noticing a larger branch that had fallen and created a bridge. “Lucky me. That looks like my ticket across.” He smiled and quickly crossed to the other side. Finally going through the forest as Ravi was searching for lower holes inside the trees or in the ground. Looking for some bug pokemon that might've sought shelter from the storm and crawled inside. So he could stab his tail through them and yank them out like a pokemon shish kebab. Mmm...er—

Ravi was unaware of Vi’s mischievous intentions; trying to either set him on fire, or use some magical ghost-like force. The likelihood of being set on fire in this rain wouldn't have entered his mind. And he could only assume they'd be too weak to actually fight much of anything or use their abilities without proper food and sleep. Only getting themselves exhausted for trying and exerting the minimal energy we had left. Which he certainly didn't want to do while the question of how dangerous this area truly was remained unknown. Though in all honesty, even if it worked, he'd still be none the wiser...

RPGC: General Discussion

Well I've mentioned ideas for contests that I thought would be interesting already. And there still ones I'd love to see happen.

Because there's no reason for me not to say it at this point. I do wish there was more people putting effort into these overall. From clear/kept rules, number of participants and the actual writing itself. To even the explanation of the voting process and obviously more writers/roleplayers interested in their own forum activities. Because I like reading creative writing and I love to see people take risks and be clever. And when I'm able to explain why something is good or bad based on the material, rather the person creating it, it only improves my abilities and with the intention anyone who reads it for advice.

Though obviously that's likely just my two solemn cents...

Important Rules:

2. Take the time to show the struggles of those in need.

>Shows basically no direct moments of struggling. Just implied because poor, lack of clothes and child. Doesn't even really have time to show WHY that's a struggle or elaborate on it. Closest I'd argue matching the requirement is the scene of her struggling to speak English in one line of dialogue. In fact most of the story revolves explaining how much more privileged and non-struggling the protagonist is.

>Almost the entire 2nd half of the story entirely focusing on prolonged suffering. Directly goes into their mindset of the person suffering, which seemed to best make use of this rule.

>If anything both succeed at doing the job of heartwarming sacrifice bit.

3. We've focused on motives before, now hit on those emotions! I want TEARS, people! And BIG ones too!

I believe they hit the mark on what I was aiming for as far as theme and tone goes. Made me warm and fuzzy inside.

I think "make me cry" doesn't make me think of fuzzy. But to each their own...?

Have to assume that with the best of intentions. The idea of "heartwarming" in rule two almost seems to be completely missing the context of the person who made the contest in the first place. It wanted a tearjerker. It wanted to actually show struggling characters, not merely imply them. But the actual good deed was suppose to be heartwarming...that doesn't remotely seem to be saying "make the whole thing happy."

So let's compare? 1. Rich wealthy priest man give gives clothes and meal to woman he's infatuated with and her child. 2. Middle class man lets a strange beast inside his home to rest and spare him from death. Giving up all his chance at wealth and resources. And the drunkard shares all the literal liquid warmth he has left. And respects the dead animal whom the beast cared for as well. Which was the bigger sacrifice and/or more heartwarming deed? I guess it's subjective? I'd argue both were perfectly believable for the setting they presented...

And how can I not still find my first contest amusing?

Can you guess which one (and only one) was criticized for being too fragmented and having sentences that were too short? :D
