At 193cm (6'4") and with a build to match it, Fraser tends to tower over most people, and rarely has to suffer somebody trying to pick a fight with him as a result. His hair can vary anywhere towards buzzcut short and medium-long, but usually tends to stray towards the latter. It's rarely kempt, and while he doesn't grow a beard his face seems to never be clean shaven, both of which are a constant annoyance for his boss. Other than this, he doesn't seem to possess any tattoos or piercings, and other than small scars that seem to litter his exposed skin ("Bad scrape on some gravel, watch your kids when they're out biking!") he's remarkably unblemished.

It seems as if he's always dressed for work, even on the weekends. Button down shirts, dress pants, a heavy coat in the winter, a laptop bag, and a newspaper tucked under his arm. This is the image of Fraser that most people will encounter on most days, even when all he intends to do is drink and relax at a pub. He even always carries a cellphone intended only for work with him- and if it weren't for his otherwise relaxed attitude it'd be easy to accuse him of being a workaholic. A strange combination to be sure, but there were far stranger sights in Drumvar.

Personality:

Laid back, quiet, and almost so unremarkable that he's hard to notice, Fraser is the kind of person who can mesh with anybody but will never make the effort to interact on his own. Asocial more than antisocial, once you get him talking he's as good a companion as anybody else, but is content to sit in a corner and pass the day away by himself. Usually watching or reading the news- almost to an obsessive degree. Most people, as it is, ignore him. And he's happy to do the same in return.

Whenever he is engaged in conversation he's the perfect listener, much more interested in hearing about his partner's life than discussing his own. Mostly because, as he puts it, there's not a whole lot to tell. He goes to work, pays his bills, goes home, and occasionally frequents a local pub or café to avoid going stir crazy. He can also frequently be seen jogging around the local parks in a clear effort to try and remain fit. This health consciousness is counterbalanced by a complete lack of cleanliness- at least in regards to his home. It's constantly in such a state of mess that he can almost never allow visitors over without advanced warning- and it's amazing that rats haven't already found it a suitable place to nest.

History:

Fraser was actually born in Dumvar, though he spent much of his childhood outside of it. While "Lifers" of the area might find his extensive travels as a kid exotic, they honestly didn't end up changing much in his life. His mother traveled through much of Eastern Europe for work with his father, and they got sick of it almost two decades ago, traveled back to Drumvar, and Fraser has been a local ever since.

Aside from that, his life had been crushingly boring. He worked a few entry level jobs here and there- sometimes moving a couple town over for work, mostly staying in Drumvar though- and eventually going to school for business in order to find himself a better paying job. He'd only just recently graduated actually- though not from Drumvar University- before landing his current job at Burn's Bank. It was a life of accomplishments that would make few proud, but he didn't seem to mind. Fraser was one of those who seemed happy to just drift through life.

Other:

• Although he doesn't seem to smoke often at all, Fraser always carries a pack of a cigarettes and lighter on him.
• A quick google search reveals that his last name is Serbian. This is not surprising, given his father is Serbian.
• He always carries a spare pair of glasses on him. "Better to be prepared than blind!"

A quick overlook of the NBR. I was going to go more into economics and the like but it was getting rather long as it is.

North Basilevsa Republic

History: The proud northernmost reaches of the empire (Known as Basilevsa) have, historically, been some of the most unstable throughout history. For a millennia, shifting alliances between the constantly rising (and falling) barons, counts, and dukes in the region kept it in constant turmoil, and anybody who gained too much of an advantage quickly found his allies turned to enemies and his lands broken apart. For both noble and commoner, the north was always harsh.

However, events far to the south would eventually have far reaching consequences in the region. The Grenheim Empire, having expanded to the point of being the absolute power on the continent, sent an offer to every noble in the north: Join the Empire and enjoy its added wealth and security for no loss in independence and autonomy. Almost immediately the nobles were split along two lines: The southern states unequivocally refused, but fear of a potential invasion caused a rapid series of treaties between the nobles in a race to unify before their southern neighbor could potentially invade.

However, in the north they were far more receptive to the idea. For centuries they had endured raids from their neighbors to the north, in addition to the constant feuds between the lords themselves. This, they saw, was an opportunity to both secure their southern border, and finally bring some stability to the region. They too, began uniting together, and the hundreds of independent barons, counties, and duchies soon merged into two entities: The North Basilevsa Confederation and the South Basilevsa Confederation. The SBC immediately declared war on the NBC before they could receive any aid from Grenheim, and the bloodiest war the region had ever seen began.

The NBC, however, had no interest in gaining aid from the Empire, not wanting to risk undermining the independence that the latter was offering. The two strongest families in the north, the Illyns and Melikovs, agreed to merge their power together and proceeded to dominate the NBC politically. In the south, no such clear leadership emerged, and coordination between their armies was often lacking, with petty disputes sometimes resulting in some lords completely refusing to back up others on the field of battle. It was this, and not any lack of strength or ability, that ultimately led to the NBC's bloody victory over their southern brothers.

Still, the lands were vast, and filled with countless bodies to conscript as soldiers. Despite constantly being on the losing side of many battles, the conflict took decades before the NBC could claim a decisive victory, and the scars of the war ran deep through the land. So deep, that public outcry in the north prevented their leaders from changing the name of the united nation to the Basilevsa Confederation, demanding that there always be a reminder of the north's triumph over the south. So, the NBC kept its name, and finally accepted the Emperor's (Or rather, his son's) offer to join Grenheim.

However, the "wealth" that had been hinted at by the Empire never seemed to materialize. Sure, favorable trade deals within the nation were available, but the NBC never was rich in resources to export. The Illyn-Melikov's, leaders of the united region, struggled with poverty and famine throughout their lands. Indeed, they often lacked the money to fund the extensive patrols needed along the northern border, and over time more and more towns were looted by raiders. Discontent among the commoners grew almost to the point of a bloody revolution. However, their leaders agreed to stop any uprising and attempt to overthrow their rulers on one condition: That the common people be allowed self-governance.

There was little actual choice in the matter, and the North Basilevsa Confederation transformed itself into the North Basilevsa Republic.

Still, it proved to be a wise move for the region. The people seemed more receptive to higher taxes from a government that they themselves elected, and soon funding for the army resumed- even if there was not always funding to actually arm the soldiers properly. Once raids from their northern neighbors were put a stop to once more, prosperity began returning to the region, and even if it was still poor compared to the rest of the empire a new age of entrepreneurs and a large working class to man the emerging advent of factories promised a new golden age for the region just beyond the horizon.

Culture: Bloodthirsty in war, charming in peace, the NBR and its people have often unnerved their southern neighbors with their seemingly unpredictable nature. The nobles, and now emerging class of wealthy businessmen, have always prided themselves on supposed sophistication compared to their southern neighbors. In the north knowledge and military prowess were both expected and demanded of the upper classes. However, they had never been particularly successful in politics outside of their own region. While it was true that sophistication was greatly valued, the rituals and social functions of southern nobility were alien to them and seen as a waste of time. To the south, the northern nobles were seen as uncultured brutes with a love of violence, and to the north the south seemed like a bunch of silly actors constantly performing in a play.

This was often exacerbated by differing religious beliefs. With their relatively late arrival to the empire, and isolated location, Adondeism never caught on within the NBR. Sure, there was a not-insignificant percentage of the population that were believer- especially with constant missions from the church taking place in the region- but most never subscribed to the belief that Adondeus was the great prophet that the church claimed. Indeed, most were still waiting on their prophet to arrive, and patiently tolerated the Church that they were presently chained to until the day where their beliefs could be proven false.

As for the people themselves there were three things valued more than anything else in the republic: Family, Work, and the Military. Towns were often centered around the local barracks, where men in their free time were permitted train in preparation for the next time conscription would be needed for the nation. This was taken up by more men than not- for relaxation was generally seen as distasteful. Even once one had earned their pay for the day, they were still expected to occupy themselves until sundown. For those that could read, the acquisition of knowledge was luckily considered work, but for the vast masses of illiterate men and women across the land this often meant hunting, woodcutting, or anything that prevent lazing around. Still, this was often not as bad as it might appear at first glance. The value of family time meant frequent breaks throughout the day to stop by their homes, sit down for tea, and spend time with their spouses and children. Indeed, in spite of their long work days it often seemed as if the people of the NBR actually spent less time than others breaking their backs.

In smaller villages, there was often a great hall where all the villagers would gather after sundown to drink, dance, and catch up on the news of the day. As villages grew into towns and cities the great halls were often replaced with smaller bars and pubs, but the practice remained. Among the wealthy and nobility this gave drinking the stigma of being a hobby of the poor, and teetotalism was often expected, or at least it was expected that any drinking be done privately in one's own study. The military too was expected to remain sober, but in practice this was never enforced, particularly among those charged with patrolling the border.

Military: The NBR has a reputation for being of the largest and most well trained militaries of the world- even amongst its conscripted peasantry, but the lack of wealth within the state has severely limited its access to modern equipment. Outside of a few specialized Guard Regiments and the Royal Dragoons, the army was horrifically outdated. Infantry for the most part still carried pikes and outdated hand cannons, and outside of the Dragoons no cavalry carried any firearms at all. A large number of patrols around the border carried bows into their skirmishes with the raiders, and the rest stayed true to the lance and sword as their choice of arms. Indeed, most modern firearms in the army had been taken from raiders that had captured them from other parts of the continent. A lack of standardization was not as big of a concern to the military as a lack of supplies in general. Still, if ever supplied with modern arms and equipment the NBR would be a terrifying military force.

Appearance: Alexei isn't what one would call intimidating at first glance. Only a little above average in height and unremarkable in build, only the numerous scars adorning his body indicate that the nobleman had ever been anywhere near a battlefield. Following the latest fashions of his country, Alexei's hair is currently cut short- far shorter than most nobles in the south would tolerate- and the beginnings of a beard can be seen on his face. While he wears no typical outfit from day to day, red is usually incorporated in some form, the primary color of his house, and all of his clothing is clearly of expensive make. A clear indicator of his status, if his self confidence and ease of giving orders weren't enough.

History: Firstborn of four sons to Margrave Gigoriy IV, it was always Alexei's place to inherit his father's title, though the power that came with it had faded generations ago. The North Basilevsa Republic (South Basilevsa having been absorbed long before) had been governed by a parliament for almost a century, and their lord reduced to more of a figurehead than a ruler. Still, the family was expected to represent the NBR within the Grenheim Empire, and in times of war lead its armies of their Lord Protector.

That did not mean, however, that life was any easier for Margraves. With less time spent on governance, it had become a tradition to patrol the border with the Royal Dragoons and root out any raiders that might have slipped past the vast northern border intending to loot the countryside. Whether on patrol, attending parliament (For the Margrave too carried a vote) or traveling on a diplomatic mission, the Lord Protector of the Republic was always on the move.

Alexei himself would prove to be no exception. Though his childhood was unremarkable, he began riding out with his father and the Royal Dragoons at the age of fourteen. At the age of eighteen he rode back with his father's corpse, and assumed the mantle of Margrave. Since then he has spent most of his time patrolling the border with his men, and keeping in eye on the south for trouble within the Empire. Having little time to make any close friends outside of the mean he leads and his family.

Brief Personality: Amongst his family or men Alexei could be considered almost normal. Always mindful of his station, but free to joke and have fun. Though remaining mindful about the status difference between himself and commoners. Even while relaxed he isn't one to let someone rise too far above their station. Still, this is the least that can be expected from one of the nobility. This of course does not apply to his family members, the only people which he can act unrestrained around and comfortable that nothing he does will degrade the status of both him and the title he carries.

While in public however he is duty-bound and gravely serious. Trading pleasantries but not indulging in small talk if it can be avoided, and trying to get down to business as quickly as possible. There is a sense of self assurance and power that radiates from him as someone who knows and takes pride in their position, though this does not prevent him from bowing to the few people in the Empire who are above his station. The NBR has always bowed its head willingly to the Empire, and enjoyed a good level of autonomy as a result. A trend which he has no intentions of breaking.

Generations of fighting against raiders has generally removed any notion of there being honor in combat in the north, and any opening that presents itself will be exploited by Alexei. Whether this means a well timed pistol shot during a melee bout, or throwing a handful of gunpowder in the opponent's face to create an opening. While mounted none of these tricks are needed for him to beat most opponents, but on foot it helps to level the playing field against those more skilled than him.

Appearance

Larger than average, although by no means a giant, it's apparent at first glance that Riso either had a healthy upbringing, or was blessed with a strong physique. His mannerisms, dress, and sword all point towards the former. While not what one might call self-assured or confident, he walks with a well practiced presence, broad shouldered and head held high. Though there are signs of stress and early aging beginning to wear on his face, it is clear he is both young and takes care of his appearance.

While his voice clearly marks him as a southerner, at first glance one could easily mistake him as hailing from the north. With bright yellows, blues, and reds intermixing throughout his otherwise indistinguishable Ronin garb. They are clearly well made, and of a style that would be far more in place in a large city than out in the boondocks. At his side rests both a bokken and katana, and the calluses on his hands mark him as one who can use them.

Personality

Riso is a thoughtful, quiet, one. One prone to thinking before acting (in most situations) and intent on puzzling out the world around him. At the same time, he constantly seems to hold himself back from these urges, and it would be a rare individual who had spoken the phrase 'Curiosity killed the cat' more often than him. Still, there is a clear intelligence behind his eyes, and he's frequently able to contribute to conversations about warfare, economics, and science. Though the last seems to be a topic he prefers to avoid if possible.

There is also a certain arrogance about him in the way he speaks and carries himself. Not the kind found in a person who believes they're better than you, but the kind found in a person who is. This, combined with his other traits, almost certainly point to him being some spoiled child of a person with wealth, and his apparent ronin status does little to justify his attitude.

Strengths

Trained Swordsman – While clearly not a master who has dedicated his life to the sword, he is competent above most men in its use. Riso has clearly been taking lessons for most of his life, even if his full attention was elsewhere.

Master Marksman – While not a weapon he carries around with him, with a tanegashima in his hands Riso could likely outshoot any man- or woman- on the continent. Considering his unwillingness- or inability- to wield this weapon though, it is a token strength at best.

Knowledge of... – Riso is clearly professionally educated, and while he knows nowhere near everything, there is a shocking amount of information in his brain. Particularly in regards to politics, economics, science, and warefare.

Upper Class – When dealing with people of status Riso has many advantages over someone of lower birth, being one of their own. A fact that would greatly aid any dealings with such individuals.

Weaknesses

Upper Class – Riso's upbringing gives him a certain casual arrogance that often infuriates those who have enjoyed less fortune in their status than him. Many an encounter on the road has come to violence for him entirely by accident due to this alone.

Fiery Rage – While not quick to anger under any normal circumstances – and indeed Riso is more level headed than most- he can be set off in an instant once one knows what buttons of his to press. The most common seem to be in relation to his upbringing, though why is anybody's guess.

Self Imposed Luddite – Despite seeming to have great knowledge of foreign technology and its use, Riso seems to shun it in its entirity, often warning people against its danger. He has even claimed that he uses his bokken because it is a more simple tool than his sword. There are many on the continent who hold similar sentiments, although his seem to be of a more extreme flavor than most.

Oh, Lawrence ended up with an upgrade by the way. Can now fully control limbs of others (Fine control requiring effort, also larger sizes mean more effort as well) with the same time limit and range as his previous upgrade (1 minute, 30 meters).
