@Super Duper one of my old favorites is the Sword of Truth novels. Of course there's like, a dozen in the series and none of them are small, so have fun if you go for it!

I have been RPing for a while. I'm not the best, usually only having a one to two paragraphs a post, but I do try to keep up with whoever I'm RPing with. I tend to go with smaller groups as I find it easier to keep going, with a strong like for 1x1.
RPs I prefer the most:
Medieval, both fantasy and not. Could be with normal people or mythical creatures, because Manticores, Dragons, and Lamias are simply awesome.
Pack/tribe style, having a small group that has to lean on each other to survive has always been enjoyable for me.
Freelancers, generally a very small group (usually 1x1) that runs around and does what they need/want to.
Post-Apocalypse, cus who doesn't like blowing up the world? Also, sometimes zombies, cus I like to make pretty splatters.
Spaaaaacccce, because exploring the unknown and getting into trouble is always fun.
Romance. Now, this does not mean adult material, I mean more of the cutesy moments that make my blackened little heart actually feel something. While I can go into the naughtier things, it's not something I'd just jump into. Also, I don't consider romance to be a stand-alone type of RP, only as a tag along with a larger story.
Also, if you put Pokemon (Feral or Gijinka) in front of any of those, I'd probably jump right on that.
I usually play females. I can do males but I'm not as comfortable with them. Also, I pretty much try to find any excuse to play a Kitsune, as they are adorable and I wish to hug them.
A small warning for the end of this, I can be rather mean to my characters, sometimes downright evil. Missing limbs or shattered minds have been known to happen with a few (more than a few) of my characters.
Hero deep, I'm always forgetting something! Anyway, here we go!
Recently discovered by one of the exploration teams, the toxic world of Horreur is home to the Elg'Cahl. Standing at around 4 foot tall, an average Elg'Cahl is covered in a dense brown, gray or rust colored fur thick enough to protect from the dangerous weather and poisons of their home, as well as fangs, claws and small slashing weapons. Their heads are similar to wolves, long snouts filled with sharp teeth meant for tearing as they are primarily carnivores.
Their world of Horreur is several times larger than Earth, inhabited by creatures and plants that have evolved to survive in its hostile enviroment. The air is heavily laden with chemicals, capable of corroding most metals that aren't treated to take the punishment at an alarming rate. The Elg'Cahl are not yet space-faring at the time of contact due to several reasons, the first one being the heavy gravity and impure metals that, while able to resist corrosion from the atmosphere, are too weak to handle the stress of breaking orbit. Their technological level is comparable to 1950 Earth, however, their advancement has been slowed down to the fact that they are, as a species, naturally aggressive. Wars are common, and on two occasions they have almost brought their own kind to extinction with the sheer level of fighting that occurred. While they are organized, they are based off a power hierarchy, one that is constantly shifting as different families and individuals either get stronger or are killed off.
Due to their home planet's high gravity, they have evolved a dense bone structure and compact muscle mass for their small size, making them deceptively strong for those who don't know of their kind. While they can stand straight, the curve of their spines causes their natural relaxed posture to be slightly hunched over. They have digitigrade legs, each foot having three large toes and their hands have four fingers, both fingers and toes tipped with black claws. While both males and females are around the same size, females tend to have more gray or rust-colored fur. Males also tend to be more aggressive, many speculating that it is because of the 'Alpha' instincts from before they began forming into an actual civilization. While their kind is considered high-risk, there are some that off-worlders have taken from their home, whether it be the Committee to examine them or attempt to integrate their kind or pirates and mercenaries that use them as fighters in exchange for the promise of violence.
Their blood is poisonous, black with a green tint, but the green becomes more pronounced the more poisons they've been exposed to. With the naturally high levels of poisons and toxins in their atmosphere, they have developed an extremely strong resistance, becoming immune to both natural and manufactured poisons. It is to the point that if they don't get any form of poison for several weeks to a few months, they will start getting symptoms such as increased heart rate, dizziness, and sudden fatigue. As they are uncommon outside of their home world, the only way to combat this effect is to keep some form of poisonous food or liquid close in case they begin feeling the symptoms. They live a little longer than humans, usually around the age of 130 Earth years, however actually reaching that age is extremely rare.
Name: Shyr Dracosis AKA: Age: 19 Race: Elg'Cahl Appearance: Fairly standard for an Elg'Cahl, with bright green eyes and rusty red fur. Stands at 3'8" Faction: Marauder Role in Team?: Engineer, Fighter
Hider cus this blew up real fast.
Bio: Taken from her home world by a group of pirates who had intended to use her as fighting slave, it became quickly apparent that she wasn't going to be doing their dirty work by force. After several disastrous attempts, the Captain of the crew opted to offer her a place on the crew itself, her fighting abilities in exchange for a share of the spoils. The promise of violence and being free of the small room she had been contained to made her quickly accept, and she soon adapted to their lifestyle. Shyr's curious mind eventually led her to begin pulling things apart to see what was inside and how it worked, starting small on things like laser weapons and slowly got bigger, up to computers, generators and even the engines of captured ships. The pirate gangs success ended half a year later when they were attacking a ship and a Galactic Security forces arrived, causing them to immediately surrender as they knew they were outmatched. The crew was quickly sentenced for their crimes, but Shyr was a difficult case. While it was undeniable that she had helped the pirates, she did so without knowledge of the laws after being kidnapped herself. Eventually, it was decided that she would be returned to her homeworld, but this idea was met with heavy resistance from her as she was adamant about remaining in space, wanting to explore and discover all the new things in the vast darkness. They tried to argue her out of it, bringing up that the only place that might fit for an Elg'Cahl would be in the Expedition Force, a group dedicated to exploring the unknown with a high casualty rate. Much like with the Raiders, she didn't have to think long at the promise of saving her wanderlust and violent tendencies, so after a short three-month course on mechanics and engineering (so she actually knew what she was tinkering with) she was shipped off to to the Monroe.
Personality: Shyr is a surprisingly happy and upbeat individual, curious about both people and things around her. She loves to find new things, but above all else, the one thing that makes her the happiest is the thrill of a challenge, especially if violence is involved. She is a very fast learner, notable with how fast she picked up on advanced engineering.
Weapon(s): Combat shotgun, tooth, and claw Star-fighter?: N/A Family/Relationship?: N/A Other: Keeps a flask of toxic liquid on her at all times, made from metals from her homeworld. In combat, she prefers close quarters, taking a liking to shotguns in particular.
I kinda find it funny that no one mentioned the "Laguz consider it dishonorable to fight with their natural weapons while not in animal form." thing when Tiu has no qualms about beating down people with her enhanced strength if the need arises. Or would that not be considered a weapon? So no biting in human form> XD
Tiu simply smiled, looking at the head of the horse. After a few short moments, she closed her eyes and let out a sigh, honestly wondering how she could explain why she adored creatures that were as wild as could be instead of any 'civilized' race. After a bit of thought, she decided a simple, yet truthful, answer was the best.
"Animals are free, they can go where they please when they want and nothing can stop them. When they are born, they are what they are, they follow their path and carry on, no matter what... Horses will always wander the grasslands, foxes will slip through the woods, birds will fly and fish will swim. They stay true to what they are and only fight when needed. They are simple creatures, yes, but they have a wisdom in their very existence that I wish to follow. So to answer your question, yes, I do like animals, but not entirely for simply what they are, but what they represent." She said before looking back to him. Admittedly, it wasn't exactly a straight answer, but it was the best she could think of without saying that she herself was pretty much half animal herself.
Letting out a low chuckle, she decided to turn a bit more, getting a better look at her passenger, and an even worse view of the path ahead. She could hear the rest of the group getting into their own little conversations, as well as the Wyvern flying around overhead, but she kept her attention on Fei.
"Relax, there's nothing to worry about. Horses are intelligent creatures, they aren't just going to wander into a ditch or some such thing. As long as no one spooks them, a group of horses only really needs the ones at the lead theirs as the ones following will keep with them. It's a herd mentality thing, trust me." She said as they steadily clopped along. She gave her horse an affectionate pat on the back of the neck for a few moments, the horse letting out a few pleased sounds and making Tiu smile a bit more. She had always loved horses, although she had run with them more often then ridden them before. It was an excellent test of her speed in her Laguz form on those days that she had nothing better to do.
With the order to move out, Tiu guided the horse after the main group, taking in the sights as they passed through the center of town. She always did love the feel of this city, so many different people from a wide variety of places. As they passed a section of Laguz, she looked over for a few moments before turning her gaze back ahead of them, an unfortunate feeling of longing eating at her core. After so long of hiding, she had even come to the point that she had kept herself from coming into contact of her own kind, as she couldn't bring herself to trust anyone lest they accidentally let her secret out. As she looked ahead, she noticed another one of their group, the man that had slammed a fist on the table, throw hateful glares at the passing Laguz, as well as say something that she was sure was demeaning about her kin. She made a mental note to avoid being around him more than necessary as they moved out of the city. Once they were out of the gates, Tiu let the horse pick up the pace, keeping up with the group easily. Remembering that there was, in fact, a second person with her, she glanced over her shoulder to the young boy behind her.
"Everything alright back there? Nothing too bumpy yet, right?" She asked with a small smile dancing on her lips. Inexperienced riders always gave her a bit of entertainment, their panic over riding usually giving her at least a few chuckles.
I tossed a quick one up, just to introduce Tiu to Fei and have them ready to move out when needed. I'm thinking about another character, but I'm putting that on the sideline for now. Maybe later I'll get to fully building it.
"Tiu Feir, and don't worry about using any titles like 'Miss', I'm as far from a lady as I can get, not to mention it just makes me feel old." She replied with a small chuckle, pocketing the sweet. Odd, but it's a lot better than many of the things she'd seen people do on their first meeting. She let him settle down before speaking again.
"As long as you hold on, you shouldn't have any issue with falling off. I doubt we'll be traveling too fast, so consider this practice for future rides. In any case, we still need to wait for a few ofhers, so get yourself comfortable for the trip ahead." She said as she took her own advice and let herself relax, shoulders drooping a little as she let go of the tension that had been building up over the last few hours. Her mind idly went to the task ahead, a small flame at her core flickering.
As Tiu adjusted a few times on her horse as she waited for the rest of the group to get ready, she heard footsteps coming towards her. Initially, she thought that they were headed for one of the other horses in the stable, but a young boy voice cut through her thoughts and she looked over. For a moment she honestly wondered why someone so young was being sent on a mission against a pirate army but shook it off before focusing on his question. In all honestly, she would have usually said no, as she wasn't all too comfortable with someone being that close to her while there were plenty of horses to spare, but she quickly decided that she didn't want to upset anyone this early into the journey. She extended a hand down to him in case his rather short stature might cause him problems getting atop the beast.
"Certainly. we're both small enough that she can easily carry our weight. I suppose you're not one for horseback riding?" She replied, taking a quick look at the boy. Short, light, a bit of an odd choice in clothing but everyone had their preferences. He was also packing light, no armor and nothing but a tome at his side so their horse wouldn't get bogged down by any extra weight. She honestly had to feel a bit bad for some of the other horses that would have to carry the more heavily armed and armored people of their group.
Watching from the sidelines, Tiu began feeling a lot more at ease as the group seemed thoroughly interested in their own activities or the leaders of the group. When none other than The Dauntless walked in, Tiu straightened up instantly, his presence immediately drawing her interest. Over the nine years she had wandered this continent, the few stories she had heard of the man that now stood with them had always drawn her attention, an rd now she got to see him in the flesh. Within moments he had everyone up and moving, headed towards the gate. Tiu followed quickly, a small smile on her lips.
Once she had reached the stables Tiu made her way to one of the horses, raising her hand and approaching it slowly. It seemed anxious at first, likely smelling the Laguz blood in her, but she quickly calmed it. After a few moments of running a hand down it's mane, a distant sound of someone relieving themselves of their stomach contents made her tilt her head, but she soon decided to ignore it and return her attention to those around her. The Wyvern Rider that Eli had called Rhea was being questioned once more, and Tiu couldnt help but chuckle. There was no telling how long this mission would take, life was simply too full of surprises for something this big to be truly planned for. She returned her attention to the horse for a few moments before nimbly hopping atop it, ready for the road ahead.
