The Society

In 1780, a small band of professional criminals formed a group known as "The Grey Foxes". It's members were: Dorian Arturno, Tara Svarosni, Lucien Lefrançois, Anja Kaplan, and their leader Lawrence Carver. Establishing a headquarters in the famed Anorian city of Loringrad, these master thieves began building one of the most lucrative crime organizations of all time. Originally meant to be a simple gathering spot for above average criminals, a sort of underground hub to be used for coordinating jobs, the The Grey Foxes began recruiting new members who showed promise in the way subtle illegal procurement of goods. Consolidating power they became what is now known as The Grey Fox Society in 1784. For years they operated unopposed until in 1830 when the society began seeing a loss of members, revenue, and influence. As years went on, local law enforcement began to crack down on the organization alongside rival gangs until there was nothing left until what we see now. The last remnant of The Society lives within Carver Manor, a decent sized manor house situated on a small island on the northeast side of Falkirk.

The Factions

Besides The Society, there are a number of groups who call Falkirk home. One such group calls itself "The Pikes", a band of alleyway thugs who make their fortune in side street robberies and store hold-ups. Led by Samuel Hughes, an ex-military officer dishonorably discharged for reasons no one is sure of, The Pikes can easily be identified by their choice of weapon. A rather long and sharpened ice pick that is holstered on their left side and a revolver on the right. During the war, Samuel served as a paratrooper, dropping behind enemy lines and setting up ambush points along their supply routes. One theory as to the reason of his discharge is that he executed multiple prisoners of war, disregarding orders from command. Another is that he left his men for dead during a skirmish, getting himself captured by allied forces and charged with desertion. Whatever the reason, Samuel returned from the war as a disgrace to his country. Many disregarded him as a waste and he fell into poverty. Feeling some amount of anger towards his countrymen, Samuel joined a small anarchist group and quickly went up the ranks before taking over as its leader. At that point, Samuel's anarchist ideals had already been replaced with the desire for wealth and notoriety. As time went on he steered his people towards the idea of crime as a means of sending a message while getting rich at the same time. What was originally a domestic terrorist group became a very dangerous street gang that now controls the west end of Falkirk.

To an outsider of the city, it may seem that Falkirk is just a metropolis consumed by war between rival gangs. In truth, there is one that reigns supreme in this city and it's name is Holrow House. Originating from one of the first families to settle on the island, Holrow House grew to become the true authority in the city. Any criminal organizations who've set up shop within the city limits pay monthly tribute to The House or face severe consequences. Holrow House businesses and associates are off limits to any seeking them harm. The House has law enforcement, judges, and some city officials. Members of Holrow House are carefully chosen and are often given muscle jobs till a proper position for them can be found. The House is such an intimidating presence in the city that locals have taken to naming their muscle men 'Hollows' due to their cold hearted nature. Despite their reputation, The House operates under a strict set of rules, some of them being that The House does not sell drugs to kids, they don't kill kids, they don't deal drugs, they don't involve in prostitution or human trafficking, and they don't tolerate competition.

With all the dangers that Falkirk holds, there is a great need for a place to escape such stresses. The Sirens operate on the northeast end of the city, managing gambling dens, brothels, bars, nightclubs, theater, the occasional fight club, and anything else one with money might desire. While it's known to have all these attractions, it's reputation is earned by the group's high quality courtesans. Run by a mostly female group, the various board members run The Siren's territory in sections. At one point during the decline of The Grey Fox Society, Holrow House began hunting down members of The Society. Thankfully, The Siren's donated a small island on the north end of their territory to The Society. That island is now the only safe haven for society members besides Siren territory which is more or less a neutral zone for the cities gangs.

While Falkirk may be home to its fair share of criminals, the outskirts are no safer. Along the roads leading to the city, in the forested region of the western shore, highwaymen prey upon traders and travelers alike. Not many venture out by land without proper protection as a group more vicious then The Pikes lurk in the woods beyond. Known as Evette's Jackals, these violent killers hold up carriages entering and exiting Falkirk, going so far as to occasionally attack government convoys. While a good number of Jackals served in the war, Evette was actually a draft dodger who built up a raiding party during the war, eventually bringing in war veterans who fell on hard times. While Evette's territory is outside of the city, his group's activities tend to interfere with transport of Society goods into and out of the city. Being as The Jackals formed during the war, they've been a thorn in The Society's side for about seven years. For such a long period of activity it would make sense to assume that finding and eliminating the Jackals would be a fairly easy task. The key to their survival is that these men mainly live in poverty if not out of the city on farms. With such low profiles they can easily move about the outskirts of the city. It is only before the execution of their activiies that they can be identified and that is by their red bandanas which are stylized with a fanged smile over their faces. What's more is that in the recent years the Jackals have grown in number to the point in which they have divided into sub-groups, all paying tribute to Evette as if he were a king of beggars.

The History

At 10:45pm on December 23rd of 1879, the nation of Osria invaded the neighboring country of Mousillon. The first wave of air raids took the nation by surprise as the bombers flew further and further into their air space, dropping firebombs on every major city they passed over on the way to the capital. By the time the air fleet was repelled by the Mousillian Air Force, a large part of the country was already set ablaze. While the people struggled to put out the infernos, the military set up anti aircraft artillery guns in preparation for another wave. Unfortunately to their surprise, it wasn't another air raid that came later at dawn but a massive land army of tanks and infantry. The land grab of Mousillon lasted two years before the country fell to Osria and Anoria invaded the northern coast Mousillian to repel Osria from attempting an invasion of Anoria as well.

The war was beyond brutal as new forms of warfare were used by both sides. Chemical warfare the likes of which had never been seen before, trench warfare and almost constant shelling accompanied by experimental weaponry such as power armored infantry. It wasnt until August 14th, 1884 that the war began to turn in Anoria's favor as a Osrian secret weapon backfired, creating an event known as The Dispersal. A new, previously undiscovered form of energy had been released into the world. "Magicka" as it is called, can be manipulated by those who are capable of sensing and harnessing it. Once it was clear what Magicka was, Anoria immediately began testing it's military capabilities. By the following year, the Anorian army had already sent Osria on the retreat as their magick trained soldiers devastated the less prepared and already wavering Osrian army.

On January 24th, 1886, the war between the two nations of Osria and Anoria came to an end. After the successful capture of the Osrian capital of Croen, Anoria brought an end to Osria's campaign of conquest. Mousillon, a country annexed early on in the war, was given back it's freedom once the Osrian army retreated to defend it's capital. Despite regaining it's freedom, it was no time to celebrate. Much of the land had been terribly devastated by the war and the country was now placed in an abysmal depression as reconstruction began. Anorian troops were stationed in major cities to aid with repairs and Osria was obligated to pay reparations as well. Even with all this, the destruction proved to be no small task to clear away. Osria's economy had put everything it had into the war and now it was facing an even worse depression. Both countries would struggle to return to the days before the war but it seemed Anoria would walk away from the conflict with the least scars. A number of cities along the Vituan River were bombed but not as heavily as those on Mousillon's side.

The date is now April 6th, 1887 and the last of the soldiers stationed Mousillon have returned home. One in particular is Nathaniel Hayden, a paratrooper deployed deep in Osrian controlled territory. His main objective was to ambush enemy supply lines and prevent them from reaching the front. After capturing a total of 276 supply trucks and killing dozens of enemy soldiers, Nathan and his men were honored as war heroes upon return from performing their duties in the relief effort.

Character Sheets

The Code

1. No OP characters, if me or my Co-GM deem your character as too powerful then we will work with you to balance it out while still staying true to your original idea.
2. Your character is not the heir to the throne of Anoria, if you want to have a character that is key to a story arc then we can discuss that.
3. Keep it pg-13, swearing is fine but don't overdo it, violence is allowed to a degree and gore as well but as I said before don't get excessive. Romance is fine but anything overly sexual needs to be taken to the PMs(send me a copy).
4. No fighting in OOC, whatever the problem is it can be solved easily if both parties act like adults.
5. If you find your character in a fight against another players character don't simply write, "The knife stabbed them straight through the heart, killing them instantly". Don't be that guy/girl.

Oh yeah totally, they are just there to protect the castle so if you have business there they'll move. If you wanna have some of them act like assholes, "OK WE AIN'T LETTIN YOU THREW HEA!" then that's fine too.
Evelyn and Bartuc

A colab with Zelosse

From afar it could be seen, like an encroaching sea of fire. The torches of five hundred men and women marched towards the lake which at one time was the famed city of Camelot. Leading the approach were two horse mounted riders; one a mountain of a man clad in foreign armor, the other a woman adorned in a tone as black as night with a thick veil covering all but her lips. As they reached the beginning of the bridge the outlanders halted their advance, awaiting a new order.

"Have our people make camp near the bridge, hopefully our new allies appreciate our watch over the bridge", the woman spoke with an air of eerie calmness before dismounting her horse. As she examined the bridge and the castle ahead she could see the souls of all who once called this flooded crater home. Through her eyes she'd see an ethereal overlay of the city of Camelot, the citizens whose lives were cut short by this new king.

Bartuc nodded his understanding, offering a simple solute before turning his horse around to address the cultist soldiers brought along as escort. Evelyns safety was his number one priority so if securing the bridge from suspicious activity was her command then so be it.

"You lot. Spread out, I want a dozen soldiers on either side with spears at the ready. If must needs, construct a temporary roadblock. The rest of the soldiers will stay with arrows at the ready. Unless they are one of the known knights you will show them away."

Orders given, Bartuc turned to Sunderland and made his way to her side again before she could go to the meeting alone and unguarded. Even here amidst supposed allies he had not an ounce of trust to give, all of those gathered here being murderers and usurpurs. Blood boiled in his veins at the anticipation of slaughtering the lot of them.

All he needed was a nod from the Master.

"My Qu-" Catching himself before uttering of the ladies past. "Prophet. Please allow me the right to be at your side through the meeting. We cannot risk harm to you."

It was less of a request and more of a statement than anything. The fanaticism of her second in command was staggering even in the face of the religious cultists that had gathered to the mistresses banner. Every moment was dedicated to her commands, but if it meant her protection above everything else Bartuc was known to disobey.

"You're quite welcome to, but I do not think this king would invite us here simply to kill me. Should that be the case, our army is close by and we have contingencies in place", Evelyn peered over the side of the bridge, just below the water's surface were the faces of the long dead staring back at her. Her lips displayed feelings of disappointment, it was such a waste. "Besides, he assured me that we would be safe. For now at least", she said as she turned back to her loyal second before beginning the walk across the bridge.

Beyond the portcullis lay a rather barren courtyard, memories of a childhood spent training in a yard more lively than this were quickly erased from thought before the two entered the castle. Making their way into the dining hall, Evelyn took a moment to view those who had already arrived. To her surprise, two of the already present "knights" had already begun getting further acquainted. "Curious", the veiled mother thought as she made her way to an open seat. Making sure they were at a decent distance from the others, purely to ease Bartuc's mind, Evelyn began carefully pick from the assorted foods placed across the table before her. "Would you care to join me, Bartuc?", she asked right before trying a strange fruit she'd never seen before. "Oh you must try this, I've never tasted something quite like this on the islands"

Bartuc shook his head politely. Removing his helmet would open up his face to a more precise attack and eating now would lower his guard. From the way his hand grasped the hilt of Furore on his hip his intentions were crystal clear.

"No thank you, your holiness. I will take rest and food when you are safely returned to our encampment. For now, please make yourself comfortable and enjoy.

With a slight smirk to signal her understanding, Evelyn turned her attention towards the other members of the hall. The first two that she had laid eyes upon had concluded their...examination? Another clad in armor seemed to stare with an unliving stillness to him, perhaps one unlikely to carry conversation. Lastly she noticed a woman, silver of hair and dressed in a manner that would make many harbor lustful thoughts. It would be rude to c9nverse solely with her companion so the ashen beauty would have to suffice. "Have you ever been to Tyrvald? The local legends tell of silver haired women who are capable of blessing fields with a bountiful harvest. If you dabble in the arcane you'd have the people eating out of your hand"

forgot to mention I edited the CS
I like the cultist prophet theme, my biggest issue with it however it is an it too direct. It shouldn't be said that the obscure one should be, well, obscure. I think I'd like to see some emphasis that the voice rarely speaks to her, the most he should have ever spoken to her was prior to her rise to power and the formation of the cult.

His plans are unknown to Evelyn as he doesn't give her anything like a step by step run down of his plan. As far as she knows he wants to get her the throne but his long terms plans are a mystery to all but him. I pictured him as being an enigmatic partner for her that converses and gives advice. The closest comparison I can make is Dexter's dad who gives guidance throughout the show but at the end of the day its up to Dexter to make the decisions.

With that in mind, that brings me to her powers. I like her theme of espionage but I have issues here. To start with the emergency dragon is a bit too much and doesn't have sufficient limitations. Danger can be very loosely interpreted and regardless, having a titanic dragon form protect her at all is a bit too overpowered. I offer too alternatives, either limit the summon to a brief 5 second lasting manifestation that can deliver a powerful blow based on its size (which is shrink to fifty foot at most.) or if you'd like to specify any other powers with t. He can summon himself to her aid 3 times a day but his body will be semi translucent and she has no control over him.
The other alternative is perhaps replacing the obscure one with being able to summon@Zelosse's character at any time, allowing her to bring muscle when she needs it.

I think I'll just do away with the dragon entirely. It was originally intended to evac her from situations where she was about to die but with the ring the possibility of death is less threatening.

Her ability to summon a matter erasing hate, I'm removing completely. Her ability to implant thoughts will be needed as well. She can still communicate telepathically, but in order to use that spell for implanting thoughts the target must be at near death, as well as being both mortal and having a soul. The spell will temporarily 'restore' them. They will lose all recent memories and are given a specific task of her choosing. The spell ends once the task is completely or after 24 hours, in which case the victim immediately dies. The spell is removed at any time if he is the target of a revive spell or a healing spell that can cure fatal injuries or whatever else was the cause of death. This saves the victim from extermination and will regain all memories. She can only use this spell on up to two people at a time.

If these nerfs are too harsh, you are free to give her more abilities as well, preferably related to stealth or shadows as that seems to be her motif. Even though you have one minor weakness I won't impose anymore with the current nerfs since she's human, but if you give her more abilities I may suggest that she is cursed by the dark one, and may assign more weaknesses with that curse to help balance it.

I have no problem with these, my original understanding was that the characters were meant to be OP but if its not the case that's fine.
I mean no rush, I'm just excited to start this because I'm digging the concept.

General description

Race

Human

Age

28

Size

Gender

Female

Sexuality

Evelyn holds love only for The Obscure One, should it be that you are an incarnation of her lord then perhaps affection will be shown to you.

Religion

The Obscure One is the name Evelyn has given to the voice only she can hear. An entity who she claims is the true dark lord and Lancelot a fragment of his being incarnate. The Cult of The Obscure One worships their hidden god and Evelyn as well for they believe her to be his mortal bride and prophet. The cult has a strict ideology but its main tenants are; Our lord's plan is unknown to us but we follow for it will lead us to paradise at his side, The Veiled Mother must be kept hidden and safe for her word is that of our lord, speak not of our family for there are those who would see it harmed, be as our lord for it is through anonymity that we thrive.

Job

Personality

Evelyn does not see the atrocities she's committed as entertaining, it is merely a task to complete. Death, war, torture, ritual sacrifice, it is not enjoyable nor is it detestable but rather a duty she must perform for The Obscure One and Lancelot. With her face almost always hidden, either in a helmet or under a veil, it can be difficult to gauge her mood as she tends to speak rather calmly when not in battle. One should not take her stoic tone for amicability as her opinion of you changes with the will of The Obscure One. Should her dark lord consider you a potential or immediate threat you will be met with hostility if not direct attack. That being said, she is not unapproachable, she is more than welcoming to anyone who wishes to speak with her or keep her company. As for her day to day routine, Evelyn can often be found studying a magic tome or performing some form of ritual. In the realm of more physical activities she prefers to practice her weapon arts at night and with her lord, however to an onlooker it appears as though she is combating the air.

Biography

Across the sea lies the archipelago of Tyrvald. A land of temperate forests and fierce wildlife, the inhabitants are divided into numerous city states. Among the most powerful is the city of Dustorne, a proud and noble people with ambitions to unite the islands under one banner to conquer new lands beyond their shores. Evelyn was the daughter of King Greagor and the heir to the throne of Dustorne. From birth she was raised to take the throne; studying battle strategy, training in multiple weapon arts, experience in political intrigue, and an understanding of her people. At the age of eighteen she left the islands to scout new lands her people could plunder in the future. For four years she wandered the lands of Camelot before returning home, only to find her throne had been stolen from her by her father's advisor and her family slaughtered. Chased out of Dustorne she fled to the neighboring city of Strosheim hoping to find aid as they had been a close ally of her family for years. Instead she was met with drawn blades and iron manacles where she was kept as a slave.

Forced to pleasure the lord's son, Evelyn's spirit would be broken until one day a familiar voice called to her. As a child she would often speak with a voice only she could hear. Her parents assumed it to be the imagination of a child but in truth it was far more than that. The Obscure One had been watching over her since her birth and had for reasons unknown only now showed himself again to her. With his help the deposed queen fled into the wilds of Tyrvald where she spent five years strengthening her bond with The Obscure One, all the while forging a cult which worshipped her as the bride to their hidden god. With the force of a small army behind her, Evelyn marched on Dustorne to take back her throne. Unfortunately her notoriety betrayed her as her enemies knew of her impending attack and bolstered their numbers. A confrontation could not be avoided and so The Cult of The Obscure One clashed swords with the defenders of Dustorne. It was a battle that could not be won but Evelyn commanded her forces with skill and held the line until a path of retreat was made. With what forces remained she retreated to her ships and fled to the outlands where she would bend the knee to Lancelot in the hopes he would conquer Tyrvald, allowing her to rule the islands as a reward.
