“SHOTGUN GANG” HITS GOTHAM WEST BANK-MILLIONS STOLEN

Gotham has once again been hit by a new wave of highly-motivated and professional criminals, in the form of the six men known as the “Shotgun Gang”, who started plying their deadly trade three months ago. Great Western American Bank, Central Gotham Savings, Britannia Holdings... no safe is safe, it would seem. The six men appear well-trained and carry automatic shotguns. They storm in, blow the vault, take everything they can, then disappear into the city again to plan their next robbery. They've shown themselves to be ruthless, too. In one instance they fired on a security guard, who narrowly avoided death, and in another they broke a cashier's nose after she wasn't fast enough in handing over the money. One thing is sure-they won't stop until they are caught

The sky was leaden grey, overcast and threatening rain. It seemed as if the heavy, dark clouds were pressing down on the city.

Detective Arthur Kingsley pulled the unmarked sedan up to the kerb outside Julio's. The small, cramped, and dingy diner was in one of the most deprived and violent parts of town, and Kingsley could remember being called to the diner many times as a beat cop. This was the first time as a homicide detective, though. Hopefully he would have more success than the suits did when he was on the beat, he thought as he put on his jacket and fedora.

“You know Art, I musta been called to this dump a hundred times when I was on the beat.” Kingsley's partner, Felix Taylor, must have been reading his thoughts.

“I know. This town's like a damn merry-go-round. Always the same crime scenes, over and over.” Kingsley nodded to the policeman who lifted the yellow tape to let the two detectives through.

The murder victim was sprawled on his back in a pool of blood beside the bar, several red-rimmed holes torn in his chest. A pistol was clutched in his outstretched hand.

Kingsley gazed at the scene for a moment. “Looks professional.” He said. Taylor nodded. “Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Tight shots, evenly spaced. They knew what they were doing.”

Kingsley knelt. The man was in his mid-40s, and was well-built with a thin moustache. Kingsley snapped on a pair of disposable gloves on and checked his jacket pockets. A wallet, stained with blood. “Our vic is one Anthony Maddox.” He said after reading the ID within. He handed the wallet to Taylor and checked the other pockets. A spare clip for the handgun in the corpse's hand, and...

Kingsley's face went white. He pulled something from the pocket and stood. Taylor frowned when he saw his partner's face. “What?” He asked, puzzled. “You look like someone has just walked over your grave.” Kingsley just held out his hand. He held a silver police badge that was covered in blood, red smears covering the GCPD crest. “He was a cop.” the detective said, his voice like ice. “He was a fucking cop.”

“Anthony George Maddox. Narcotics Bureau officer. Aged 44, lives in a building on the China Docks.” Edward Nygma, the tall angular forensics man, opened his mouth to speak again.

“If it's a riddle, Ed, you can just keep it.” Kingsley cut him off. Nygma closed his mouth again. Taylor appeared from behind the bar. “Got casings here.” He said. “Looks small calibre.”

“It's from Detective Maddox's gun.” Nygma replied, looking down at the dead cop. “He went down fighting.”

“Any indication of who the assailants were?” Kingsley asked.

“Maddox wounded one of his attackers, we think.” Nygma crossed the diner, pointing to a spot on the wall that was cratered by a bullet hole and smudged with red.

Kingsley looked at the victim and back again at the wall. “Trajectories seem to fit.” He remarked. “I can see how it happened.”

“Once we get Maddox back to the lab, we'll run the blood on the wall, see if we can get a match.” Nygma said, looking at his clipboard.
A uniformed officer came to the door. “We've finished interviewing the witnesses.” He announced. Taylor's eyebrows rose. “That was damn quick.” He said. Kingsley snorted. “Guess they saw nothing.” The beat cop clapped a hand to his mouth in mock surprise. “How did you know?” He said sarcastically. The three cops laughed; Nygma didn't seem to find it funny.

Name: Arthur "Art" Kingsley

Age: 42

Faction: Gotham City Police Department, Homicide Bureau

Appearance:

Bio: Art Kingsley is a GCPD Homicide Detective with twenty years experience on the rough streets of Gotham. A cynical, hard-edged, and grizzled veteran, Kingsley understands the fundamental truth about the city; that sometimes you have to do bad thing for the right reasons. Kingsley has a great many skeletons in his closet, but the whiskey bottle and copious amounts of tobacco and the occasional use of drugs keep them at bay.

Name: Felix Taylor

Age: 37

Faction: Gotham City Police Department, Homicide Bureau

Appearance:

Bio: Felix Taylor is a veteran of years of war in the desert and jungles. Returning to his home city of Chicago, he served three years in the Metro PD before a scandal forced him to transfer to the last chance saloon-the GCPD. He is new to the homicide bureau, but has shown promise on the three cases on which he has worked.
Gotham City Police Department (GCPD)

The Gotham City Police Department is the main law enforcement agency in Gotham. Brutal, uncompromising, and corrupt, the officers of the GCPD are confronted by low budgets, rampant street crime, and immensely powerful criminal organisations. The rank and file try their best to get by, taking in a little extra cash on the side. The higher-ups too are corrupt, an are often in the pockets of the criminals or unscrupulous politicians. Some police officers are known for taking on assassination contracts and gang killings. Many of the police are little better than the people they purportedly are after.

Gillian Loeb is the current police commissioner.

Federal Bureau of Investigation, Gotham City Division

The FBI is the a federal law enforcement organisation with offices in every major city in the USA. It's agents are well-equipped, excellently trained, and known for having far greater resources than any city PD. Naturally in Gotham this means that many inside the GCPD detest the "Feds".

Their superior is Special Agent Eric Forster.

International Guard, Unit 84 (IG-84)

The International Guard is a worldwide mercenary group based in Berlin, led by former Israeli Army Colonel Avram Kleinman. Each of the units around the world have a number designation. Gotham's unit, unit 84, is led by a Northern Irish officer called Tom Carson. A former British Army member with years of combat under his belt, he now leads his group of men in the name of the almighty dollar.

Their commander is Major Tom Carson.

Maroni Family

One of Gotham's major mafia families, the Maroni Family is led by Salvatore Maroni, a hot-headed boss who is known for his use of car bombs in his attacks. His organisation has major interests in drug dealing, contract killing, robbery, and extortion.

Falcone Family

The greatest of the "Big Four" of Gotham's Mafia families, the Falcones rule the underworld of Gotham with an iron fist inside a velvet glove. Carmine Falcone, the "Godfather of Gotham", has formed a network of alliances with the smaller criminal gangs in the city that enable the Family immense power and allows them to resolve many disputes without resorting to war. Politicians, cops, attorneys- Falcone owns them all. Or most of them, anyway. The Falcones control waste management, prostitution, gun running, hijacking, vote rigging, and myriad other crimes.

Caruzzo Family

Second in power and influence only to the Falcones, the Caruzzo Family are known to be the most secretive of the Big Four Italian American mob families in Gotham. Little is known about their leadership or strategies. The don of the family, Francis "Frank" Caruzzo, is known as the "Invisible Don". The Caruzzos main interests are gunrunning, contract killing, bank robberies, extortion, intimidation, and political corruption. The Caruzzos are closely allied with the Falcone Family. The Caruzzo Family have a dedicated hit team known as the "Headhunters" that have become part of Gotham's urban legend.

Marcelli Family

The smallest of the Big Four mob families, the Marcelli's are known as the drug pushers of the mob. Violent and unpredictable, the Marcellis are almost constantly in a low-intensity war with the Russian Bratva in Gotham. They are led by Ercoli Ruggerio, who took over the family after Luigi Marcelli was killed by a Caruzzo made man one year ago.

Bratva

The Russian Bratva is a very aggressive, very bloody criminal organization that is heavily involved in drug dealing, prostitution, and pornography. They have no fear of the police, and many of their members are "un-arrestable", meaning that they will fight to the death rather than be apprehended.

This is not a complete list; feel free to give me any ideas or suggestions.

The city of Gotham is on a knife-edge. The last generation growing up in this dark, crime-ridden, and corrupt place have had few ways to escape the all-pervasive violence and greed. Sleazy politicians, dirty cops, and ruthless crime bosses scheme, betray, and kill one another with no regard or care for the ordinary people trying to survive in this urban battlefield.

There was one family who showed hope. Who inspired faith that one day things could be different; that the crooks might not forever rule Gotham. The Wayne family were rich, famous, and influential. Their company, Wayne Enterprises, is one of the worlds biggest multinationals, and is involved in medical research, shipping, aeronautics, weapons testing, and much more. Thomas Wayne devoted much of his fortune into developing his hometown, and much of Gotham's ageing infrastructure and public buildings have been updated or replaced courtesy of the magnanimous Wayne patriarch and his driven, compassionate wife Martha.

And now they are dead. Slain in a mugging in front of their 12 year old son, Bruce. Gotham's guiding light has been extinguished, and the town is struggling to come to terms with the loss. There is a feeling of unbearable tension in the air. All it would take is a single spark to engulf the city in a wave of violence the likes of which it has never seen. It seems that the criminals have won, and Gotham will forever be a haven for the unjust.

Or will it? Are there any who will stand up for the little guy? The downtrodden, the helpless? Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for this city yet.

This is an RP based on the TV series Gotham, set immediately after the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. You can play a criminal, a cop, or anything in between. It's aesthetics and themes will be heavily reminiscent of the TV show too.
@Byrd Man then by all means, post a character! The first storyline, "The Wages of Sin", will be up tomorrow!

@Burning Kitty you can play a canon character if you like; just bear in mind that the RP takes place when Bruce Wayne is a child.
