Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.
At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.
I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

  • Name: Arturia Pendragon
  • Class: Saber
  • Appearance: "Ex..."
  • Personality: A strong-willed, stubborn girl who is nevertheless extremely brave and filled with determination, Saber can be said to be one of the pinnacles of knightliness. Truly, she is the King of Knights. So dedicated is she to her knighthood that she considers herself to be a knight before she is anything else. While she is honorable and dedicated, she will not show mercy to her foes if they do not show honor and dignity themselves. A monster, it seems, will be treated as one. Saber has a strong sense of justice, and in all likelihood would first seek to eliminate any foes who choose to harm innocents or plan to do other actions that could be considered evil. Opponents who behave in an honorable fashion are treated with honor and respect, but Saber is not above concealing her weapon to gain an advantage in that regard. In spite of being a proud knight, Saber is riddled with regret and guilt for what she believes were her failures in ruling as King. While she adheres to a philosophy of a king ruling for their people, she still believes that it is her fault that Britain fell. Still, while she has these regrets, there is nothing that will stop her from her dedication to her knighthood nor her pride. In addition, Saber is also capable of being a kind and caring girl who shows concern for others. While she is proud and brave, she is also easily embarrassed and flustered.

    • Charisma: B. The capacity of one to stand as a beacon to others, a sort of natural charm exhibited by those who spent their lives as leaders. At the rank of B, it is sufficient for one who was the King of a country.
    • Instinct: A. Finely-honed battle instinct comparable to predicting the future, allowing Saber to instinctively react to and understand even incomprehensible attacks. Visual and auditory interference can be be partially negated through this ability.
    • Mana Burst: A. Via the use of her enormous mana supply granted by her mana core, Saber is capable of reinforcing her entire body with mana, greatly enhancing her parameters. Primarily the use of this skill is for physical defense and speed, though even a single strike can be massively empowered by applying this reinforcement.
  • Noble Phantasm(s):
    • Name: Excalibur: Sword of Promised Victory
    • Rank: A++
    • Type: Anti-Fortress
    • Appearance: The sword gifted by the Lady of the Lake
    • Effects: Excalibur is the peerless holy sword forged by the planet. Unmatched by anything but the Sword of Rupture used to split heaven and earth, it is an incredible destructive weapon, a perfect sword created with the purpose of defending the planet. It is considered beyond any other sword in existence, even those that may have technically been crafted with more skill then it is. Its edge is perfectly sharp and it is an excellent tool for piercing and cutting a target, and it is also capable of unleashing a small beam of mana in order to assault her foes. However, its true power is unleashed when it is invoked as a Noble Phantasm. When its name is invoked, Excalibur unleashes a massive wave of destructive mana that utterly annihilates everything it passes over, atomizing every single thing it comes in contact with. Its strength, even in a state where its full power cannot be unleashed due to being partially sealed, is sufficient to permanently scar the earth in a manner visible from space if the blade comes in contact with the planet while invoked. Even phantasmal beasts and evil deities from alternate dimensions are annihilated by the wave of mana released by the invocation of Excalibur. While this is certainly an incredibly destructive weapon, Saber is unable to use it very often due to its high potential for collateral damage and strain on her mana supply.

    • Name: Invisible Air: Barrier of the Wind King
    • Rank: C
    • Type: Anti-Unit
    • Appearance: N/A
    • Effects: Invisible Air is a sheath of wind that distorts and refracts light around whatever it encases. It is a simple form of magecraft that allows for the protection and obfuscation of anything it surrounds. Saber utilizes it to disguise the form of her sword, rendering it impossible to recognize the weapon she is using as anything other then something she wields with two hands. However, it can also be used as a form of projectile as well as a defense that can be applied to other objects. Saber may also utilize it in order to give herself a burst of speed, propelling herself towards her target in a manner similar to a rocket. When released to expose her sword's true appearance, it unleashes a shockwave that can damage opponents and knock them back.

The Holy Grail War.

The year is 1934. The Third Holy Grail War has begun. The three families and the other various participants clash for the sake of claiming the grail the path to the origin, the omnipotent wish-granting device. And yet... something goes terribly, terribly wrong. Suddenly, a foolish attempt to seize complete control of the grail and remove it from its resting place escalates into an even more explosive conflict. In the process, the Holy Grail itself was heavily damaged, a bleeding scar cut through the very structure of the ritual itself. Matou Zouken was slain, ending one of the three founding families. The perpetrator, a magus of Germany, was also slain by the Tohsaka representative, before he was able to attempt to continue his plot.

When the dust settled, the third Holy Grail War could be considered nothing less then a failure. There was no choice but to delay the fourth war, to allow the Grail time to recover from the critical damage that had been done to it. Indeed, it wasn't until 2004 that the ritual was once again ready to be conducted.

But everything did not go as planned. In the months approached the War, it became apparent that the ritual had suffered sufficient damage to result in numerous changes that required proper investigation. Unfortunately there was no chance to perform this research.

The Einzbern family, having transported their most powerful homunculus yet to Fuyuki, along with her parents, a freelance agent and their previous homunculus once intended for the possibility of an earlier fourth war, was suddenly raided by an outside force. The Ainsworth family, a powerful magus family equipped with a vast arsenal of magecraft, very deliberately sought out the latest of the Einzbern homunculi and attempted to take her for themselves.

In a vicious battle, the freelance agent was critically injured, his life only saved by the efforts of his wife. However, they successfully prevented the kidnapping of their daughter.

It was from here that the Ainsworth family revealed their true intent: The absolute dominion over the Holy Grail. They planned to summon all seven Servants by themselves, a combination of family members and their allies, and they aggressively took command of the ritual.

And yet...

The damage to the Holy Grail all those years ago yielded something unexpected. The Tohsaka, joining forces with the Einzbern and magi from the association, were still able to participate.

It was not a simple Holy Grail War, but a Great Grail War. A war where two sides summon seven Servants and clash in a massive battle.

And soon, it will begin.

Some ground rules:

  • No Servants Older than Gilgamesh
    • He's the king of heroes for a reason, the most powerful Servant is also the oldest.
  • Few Servants from 1900 or later
    • Very few Servants come from beyond this point that qualify outside of the Moon Cell, please be careful if you choose a Servant from beyond this date.
  • Great Grail War
    • There are two teams, but only the red team will be populated with players. Additionally, due to circumstances in the RP, we do not require a full seven Masters.
  • If you get yourself into a situation where your character may be killed, I'm sorry
    • The premise of this RP guarantees that Servants will be dying. And if your Master messes up, they're at risk too. However, Servants at least are all famous figures from the past, and shouldn't go down easily.
  • No reality marbles
    • These are super-rare. Exceptions MAY be made but it's unlikely.
  • Have fun!
    • That's what this RP is here for. Follow standard RP etiquette and my guidelines, and you should have no problem.
  • Tiger Dojo
Finally, @PKMNB0Y and @Raineh Daze will be helping me run this RP, and will naturally be in charge of the Tiger Dojo.

@Ginnungagap: Full on splatter across the cobblestones. Imagine if someone dropped a lot of very fresh, bloody raw meat in a pile. The splatter by the head is a lot smaller.
Upon noting that the older girl was still sampling the biscuits that she had ordered specifically for herself and Saturday, Arinne narrowed her eyes in irritation. At least glancing towards Saturday made her somewhat less annoyed. Her head pressed into Sophiana's chest appeared to have made the silver-haired girl completely freeze up. It was amusing. However...

"Next time I'll order a batch laced with Bitrex and dead spiders," she commented, loud enough to be heard. Not simply due to annoyance, but also because the idea of her servants worriedly checking any food well before eating it was incredibly amusing to her. But, there were other matters to discuss at hand.

"Now.. it's good to get introductions out of the way, of course, I'm surprised everyone waited so long," the blonde girl continued with an idle wave of her hand.

"But we're not going to be setting up a plan until we've investigated the site of the murder, so do not be concerned about serving as bait," she added. Then, with a smirk... "Yet."

The concerns about a trap being set for investigators wasn't unfounded, and Arinne was at least pleased that Pearwoolf had started properly contributing and offering some kind of conclusion.

She steepled her fingers as she leaned forward.

"Of course, it could be a trap," she said, simply, "But we'll learn nothing more if we don't visit the crime scene. So, I've elected to investigate during broad daylight, where it is far more difficult for anyone to spring a trap and go unnoticed. The killer may be leaving the corpses, but they're hiding the method, so I am certain they are still bearing some level of consideration to the secrecy of magic."

The diminutive mage rose to her feet. In spite of her behavior, that made it even more clear she was definitely the shortest person in the room.

"Any further introductions can be made while we approach," said Arinne, "We hardly want to be tardy, do we?"

With that, she lead the way out of the room. Transport had already been prepared, the Ar-Rynesarte influence was still enough to swiftly garner such service, after all.

But there was another delay.

It was an older man, one whose hair had begun to grey, but still held some signs of youth, clad in dark clothing.

"Ah, Lady Ar-Rynesarte. What are you doing this fine day?" he asked, with a smile.

"I'm not interested in becoming wrapped in conversation with you, Lord Vallius," Arinne responded, shortly, narrowing her eyes. The long-winded lecturer had seemed to take an interest in attempting to hold conversations with her as of late. She supposed there was nothing wrong with that, especially given the man had not-so-long ago lost his daughter, but she had no interest in serving as a surrogate, especially when she had business to attend to. "I have important business I must attend to, as you may be able to discern."

"... Is it about that murderer?" he asked, with a frown, "You really shouldn't worry yourself over such things. The Citadel Six will certainly handle it."

"If I had the faith in the Unlucky Six to do their job flawlessly, I would not have activated my remaining contracts. Good day, Lord Vallius," she said, narrowing her eyes slightly as she did. The man let out a sigh as she departed, leading her servants to the vehicles they would be taking. Each was black and shiny, quite clearly a well-made vehicle, though Arinne had little knowledge or care for the make of them.

Once everyone had gotten into their cars, they were off.

The moment Arinne's group, and by extension the others, arrived at the crime scene, the first obstacle was immediately apparent.

They weren't abandoned.

"Hey, hey, you can't come in here!" warned a police officer, a young woman, accompanied by a man. Arinne sighed. She had expected this, but it didn't make the process any less annoying. She could just barely see into the alleyway beyond. There was no way they could conduct an investigation like this.

And so...

Mana flowed through Arinne's limbs. She was, perhaps, well-equipped to deal with such a scenario.

"Don't worry, officers, we won't be taking any of your time," she stated, smirking as she glanced up at the both of them.

"O waters, still and freeze, flow no more."

The magical energy in her body flowed down to her fingertips, as she calmly raised her right hand and waved it.

"Let stillness take you."

Suddenly, the officers were... not frozen, no. But they may as well have been. Their movements(and even their perception of reality) had suddenly slowed to a crawl, to the point where it almost seemed as if they were frozen solid. It was a simple spell, a sort of stasis. Completely useless against anyone with any magical capabilities, but against people like these police officers...

They would have all the time in the world to perform their investigation.

"Come along, then," Arinne said, simply, glancing back towards the others, "Let's see what this blood-soaked killer left behind!"

There was perhaps a hint of too much excitement in her voice.

The crime scene was of course no longer home to the body, but the chalk outline remained. Not only that, but the rather expansive spray of dried blood lingered, as well. Notably, the largest marks were near the victim's head and roughly a meter in front of them.

Fanilly winced when she saw the axe come down and remove Jeremiah's head. But, in the end, it wasn't an incorrect move. To bring a stop to the fighting immediately, and to ensure such a monster was truly dead... That was an ideal way to swiftly end this conflict.

The Three Hundred Man Slayer had desired nothing more then death and violence, and the eradication of an entire Order of Knights. For what purpose? What reason? Fanilly couldn't fathom it. It simply wasn't something she could understand. Was it pride? Was that the reason for this?

In the end, Fanilly had no way of knowing, and she wasn't sure if the answer would have been anything she wanted to hear.

In the end, Jeremiah perished at the hands of the order he had sought to destroy.

Striding towards the no-longer burning log, Fanilly spotted a good handhold on the thick trunk. Placing her hands upon it, she pulled herself up and got her feet under herself, standing where she could be seen fully.

"Your leader lay dead, bandits," she began, her voice high and clear over what little fighting remained, "Lay down your arms."

Moments later, any of them that remained fighting were in their knees in surrender. Fanilly took a deep breath. It had quickly become clear to her what had happened here. On their own, the bandits were weak and unskilled. But with Jeremiah as their leader, he had bolstered their wills. The whole time all he thought of was killing the Iron Rose Knights, however, and when he finally had a chance at his goal he abandoned them to whatever fate they would meet.

"We have met victory. These criminals have either been slain, or subdued, and will never hurt another innocent again," she began, "Well done, Iron Roses. But first..."

"I need a report from each flank leader I have not already spoken to, and we must arrange transport for the wounded in order to return home."

Fanilly knew at least one soldier had died, but she could not be certain if any others hand. She felt a pang of sorrow at the thought of the man who had been sliced in half, and the potential fates of others if they had perished, but felt hopeful that Jeremiah's victim was the only casualty. No-one aligned with the Roses should have died here, but hopefully it was only one man.

She was trying to think as positively as possible. To be thankful that, from her position on the log, it seemed as if there had only been one casualty. But that man had still died. Nothing could change that.

... Was it her fault? Could she have done something better and saved his life...?

I'll have an update done here by the weekend!
Sylphie couldn't help but be a little frustrated that she was being halted like this. Anything else could wait, the bandits that were harassing this town were in the here and now. If this had been 270 years... then it was even more important she resumed her role as the Pillar of Vengeance, wasn't it? And... ah, it was just... this feeling of having her face buried in Izel's chest was... well, it wasn't a common feeling for the demigod, to say the least. She disliked being the one targeted. Even if it was soft...

When her head was freed, the tiny girl took in a gulp of air. The hand running through her soft, silky hair was hardly unpleasant. But still, all this was was more delaying. She wanted to get on that mountainside and spill blood over and over, the blood of the wicked splattering on her sword as she felt the heat, the excitement of-

There was no reading Izel's tone in any other way.

"... Ah... you..."

The normally confident and smug girl found herself stumbling a little. Had Izel... really just...

Youmu was silent for a few moments. It wasn't that Nanoha's way was wrong, but just that... ah, she didn't know how to reply. Instead, after watching Nanoha incapacitate the creatures that had appeared, the small, pale girl strode forward to investigate the chest. The letter inside, that had to be something, right? It was possible that it would lead them to just how to handle the entire situation and clear these caverns of the strange fish creatures and the walking corpses. As she carefully cut the lock on the chest and forced it open entirely, the half-phantom ignored the gems in favor of locating the note.

"This could be something important..."

With that, she unfurled it. For a moment, she couldn't understand a single word of the page, but then it shifted into kanji before her eyes. She recalled that somehow, the other people she had met... some spoke Japanese, like Nanoha, but the others hadn't. Somehow, the words had simply registered in her mind as Japanese.

But now wasn't the time to wonder about things like that. Now was time to read the note.

...

By the time Youmu finished the letter, she was shaking. The fish creatures weren't simply monsters that ate people and demanded deaths. They transformed people, robbing them of their very nature and forcing them into these terrible forms. Youmu could feel her hand tightening on Roukanken's hilt.

"... They don't just kill people," she said, finally, raising the note towards Nanoha as she did.

@KoL@PKMNB0Y
Youmu paused for a moment. It wasn't as if she wanted to spread hatred, or anything like that. It was that these creatures quite clearly had no compunctions about killing and other unspeakable things... Their first action when faced with anyone was to attack, and they had been using a bloated, dead human as... as some kind of soldier... it was wrong. So horribly wrong. And they were so close to that decrepit little town that had little to no defenses... The heir to the Konpaku family, the one who followed their school of swordplay, couldn't allow such a thing. While she had been raised as a retainer for Saigyouji Yuyuko, that did not mean she had not been raised to pursue what was right, provided that it did not contradict the will of Yuyuko-sama. But truthfully, the small half-phantom had faith that Yuyuko-sama, no matter how silly she could be, would never pursue anything wrong of her own accord.

For the sake of the people in that village, so they would not have to suffer, so the people who came here would not have to suffer, Youmu had to do everything she could to erase the threat of these fish creatures.

"... I want to stop them from spreading sadness, too..." she finally said, half to herself as she began sending her phantom half forward as a scout once more.

"... What did you find?"
