She pulled at the rest of the illusion, allowing the magic to dissipate back into the wild. The room shifted as the image that was much more Earth like disappeared. It was still a small room – however it became much more apparent that it was more of a hut rather than an apartment. The furniture had taken on its more natural and wild look – similar in style to the chair.

“We are on the outskirts of a small village called Clearwater in the land of Fire. To be less specific, we are on the planet Aurion. And the only way to get back to your home would be to find one of the rifts – one that connects Aurion to your planet… Earth, right?” She wondered if it was best to be upfront. She had tried to keep everything a secret from him. And because of that he was angry with her – which was understandable. “As to how to get you home, I’m not entirely sure. These rifts are rather unstable, and the one I took to get back is surely gone by now.”

She watched him. Not only for his reaction, but to see if was the magic doing anything to him. “How are you feeling?” It was her theory that by stringing the magic together, it would not try to overpower and destroy the human. But now the illusion was gone, and the magic was free to do what it wished – wild and uncontrolled.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while - I've been busy preparing for midterm exams. I'll hopefully get a post up soon.

“You are far from your home,” Deneva lifted a hand and examined her nails. “And because of that it would probably prove useless to call ‘the police’.”

She considered the opinion of just letting the human wander. If he bolted out that door and was eaten by the planet, well that meant that the prophecy much have been referring to some other human. However, she knew that such an excuse would not work. She was this human’s protector, whether he agreed or not. So how much information could he handle? If he truly knew everything, what was the consequence? Well, first off, he probably wouldn’t believe her. She just need to take things at little steps at a time.

A sigh escaped her lips as she stood from the chair. “My name is Deneva. And I brought you to this place to keep you safe. How safe you are here – I can’t guarantee.” How soon would the magic begin to destroy him if he was the one prophesied about? Perhaps this very room was killing him? Even if she had tried to weave the magic to create the illusion around them, the magic was still wild. And that was probably the first thing she would have to address. If he was to try to understand here he was, he needed to understand the main component of this world. “Do you believe in magic? Because if not, I’d suggest that you do.”

She brushed her hand over the chair, undoing the illusion upon the item. Sparks of color, traces of magic, escaped into the air to reveal a piece that was of more Aurion nature. It was still something similar to a chair – a wood stump that had been molded into the piece of artwork that it now was. The strange design of the was probably unlike any wood working found on Earth.

Well that took longer than I thought it would, and hopefully it isn't too terrible. But I finally got the intro post to both of my characters up. Sorry for the wait.

"You are making a lot of assumptions," Deneva answered a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "But I thank you for the compliment."

She had expected the human to make some amount of fuss. Mostly about the events leding up to him being knocked unconscious. A group of thugs had not been on her list of things to deal with - but the human had to be protected. The bruise on her leg seemed yo throb at the memory of the fight.

A simple job to keep the peace of Aurion had led a human here. And who else might try to attack or capture this human before her? This was not as easy as a task as she first thought it was.

"I didn't kidnap you. Nor am I expecting a ransom. Besides, if you happen to truly be who I think you may be, then you'll be priceless." She paused in thought before speaking once more, "So what is your name?"

Her days of waiting, of being locked in a cell, were over. Life in the cold depths of the Capitol – the center of the High City – hadn’t been too different when compared with sleeping on the streets. However, she hadn’t seen the sky in so long. She missed the sun – the mornings and evenings of watching the sun appear and then disappear at the edge of the world. She missed running over the rooftops, the wind chilling her skin. And now she would never see this world again. She had made a mistake and she would surely die. Her punishment would be death, and the Seven Sins would not be gracious enough to grant her one last request.

Now was the time. They had drugged her – how and when was unknown to her. But they had taken her from her prison and transported her somewhere else. Metal walls were now her cage – and they seemed to hum with energy. Gathering strength, she pulled herself to her feet. She rubbed at the raw skin at her wrists which were finally free of the cuffs that had bound her. She could still feel the weight of her pocket knife that still somehow remained in her pocket. Circling the area, she tried to find an exit, but the walls were seamless. But as time drew on, the hum seemed to grow and she could feel the vibration of the floor beneath her. The only explanation she could come up with was that she was in a machine. The ground shuttered, throwing her into one of the metal walls. Fear filled her as the temperature began to quickly rise.

Over her beating heart she heard a loud buzz and the sound of static. “Prisoner 162 found guilty of thievery and treachery against the system. The Seven Sins have blessed you with disintegration.”

The words chilled her to the bone. Being of the High City, she knew that she possessed certain traits that people of the lower worlds did not have. But there was no way to survive disintegration. Out of all the options of how to die, she did not want to be pulled apart atom by atom – to leave nothing behind. The thought was too much to bear. And to die in such a confined space … all she wanted was to be free.

The floor beneath her rocked and her cage grew louder as the gears whirled and electricity crackled. And then the world around her went quiet. The world turned white as a resounding bang resounded through the air. The machine rocked back and her head slammed into the metal. Blood dripped down the back of her head, and as she lifted her gaze, she felt as if the world had slowed around her. As the white haze thinned, time seemed to still. It was then that the wall seemed to melt away and she found herself falling backwards. The world of metal was replaced with bright blue.

Phoenix could feel the wind whipping through her hair and she was enveloped in the sensation of falling. Instinct took over - habit developed from running through the High City. In seconds her feet slammed into the ground. Her knees bent and her hands slammed into the ground, trying to absorb the shock of the impact. Her muscles and bones ached as she remained still, crouched down in the small crater. Her rapidly beating heart was evidence that she was still alive.
The routine was always the same. Wake up early in the morning to tend to the animals. Fresh water was always needed as well dry feed. After that, it was to the fields to tend to the grains and vegetables that grew there. His hands were rough and covered by calluses, no longer smooth like the royals in the palace. It was rough work out here, but it was a good life. Fate had led him to this tiny village, to the Rivers who did not care to know of the young boy’s crime.

And it was upon this farm he had been raised. Things that he had learned were of no use out here, except for maybe the small practice he had with a sword. But then again, he had learned much more from the boys in the village. He had at least learned to hold his own in a fight without weapons. Straightening his back, he dug the shovel into the ground and leaned against it. Whipping his forehead, he surveyed the area around him – enjoying the peace that was present.

Jaxon had no future besides what lay before him. It was a future he still found difficult to accept. Every day he interacted with commoners, people who worked more and earned less than those in the castle so far away. And there was nothing he could do for these people, not as a criminal. Lifting the shovel, the man made his way to the farm house, where he placed the shovel before making his way around to the path that led to the village. There was going to be a royal decree, and he knew what it would be about. His father was dying, and therefore the decree could only be an announcement of his father’s death and the official announcement that his uncle would rise to throne.

However, as the man dressed in royal garb spoke, the prince could barely believe his ears. "And thus it is decreed that whomever shall present the Thief of Time to the Royal Court shall be the one true heir. His Royal Majesty King Edward."

Finally his chance had come. He could have to leave this village and try to recall as much of the legend as he could from the tales his mother had taught him. Perhaps the future was not set in stone, and maybe fate would give him back what was stolen all those years ago.

That sounds great.

Well then, I'll put together a post after I get a little sleep.

The prince still goes by his given first name. However, to avoid criticism he chose adopted a new last name (Rivers) and avoids mentioning his past. So not too secretive but enough so... if that makes sense.

As for why the assassin and prince would work together, that does prove to be difficult. The assassin's reasoning may be that it would be easier to find the thief if he teams up with someone and then just later kill them -- if that's the type of man he is. However the prince wouldn't have the same reasoning. Unless he suspects the assassin for having connections to the palace. And the prince would rather team up and keep an eye on the assassin. Or some other idea if you can think of something. :)

Your character sheets look great!

So would we like the prince and assassin to sort of meet up and work together or... shall we focus on the girls meeting and then separately bring in the boys?

Fated

The Westlands had once been a peaceful kingdom. For thousands of years it had grown with prosperity. But such a utopia cannot last for long. As the years dragged by, greed grew in the hearts of those closest to the royal family. The queen's brother was one with such a heart. He conceived a plan of betrayal and deceit, for simply killing the king would not be enough to give him the throne - as his subjects would then most certainly rise up against him. No, he could not kill the old king just yet. That fateful night of his uncle's betrayal forever changed the young crown prince's life. Not only did he witness his mother's murder, but he was framed for the very act. Beloved by his people, they could not bring themselves to call for his execution, so the young prince was stripped of his title and exiled from his home.

Years have passed since then and the king has grown old and ill. With the king upon his deathbed, the kingdom believes that their next king will be late queen's brother. But with his last breath, the King announces a challenge. The one to find and return a legendary artifact, the Thief of Time, to the kingdom will be crowned king. Word of the challenge has spread far and wide as rogues to royals hunt for the legendary item. So it makes sense that such words have reached the exiled prince's ears. After all, he was raised on the stories of the Thief of Time - an object that is supposed to have come from the far future. He plans to take on the challenge in order to win back the kingdom that was stolen from him and to take his vengeance upon those that are responsible for his mother's death.

But the problem that none of the contestants foresee is that the Thief of Time is not a legendary artifact, but a young woman. She was raised in the High City, a desolate city in the air. It is a place where kindness doesn't survive. It is a place controlled by a notorious group called the Seven Sins. An orphan, like so many, she must figure out by herself how to survive. The best mercenaries and assassins come from the High City; it’s the only possible way to get out of the city and back to the ground below. She however turns to the path of a thief. But in a place so poor, the only things of value belong to the Seven Sins. However, to steal from the Seven Sins is punishable by death. But not all goes as planned and the Seven Sins newest execution machine malfunctions, sending the thief back into the past - specifically the outskirts of a small village.

In such a small village, not much happens. And this simplicity is about to drive one young maiden insane. A young maiden who is strong willed and dreams of adventure finds her opportunity of escape when she witnesses a woman fall out of the sky. She is the first to meet this strange woman from the future. While she may find it difficult to believe the stranger's stories or to believe what she herself has witnessed, she offers to help the thief find a way home.

However, not only is an exiled prince interesting in finding these two girls, but so is the crown prince’s uncle – the current Regent of the land. He has sent out an assassin to find the thief and kill anyone who gets in the way.

But what happens when love sparks in the most unlikely circumstances.

Thief of Time
Phoenix / "Nix"

As a child of the High City, Phoenix has memories of her mother that are few and far between. For at a young age, she was abandoned, left on the streets as an orphan - a simple street rat. Instinct kept her alive, as did her skills of observation. She watched others, learned about what she had to do and what she shouldn't do on the streets. She learned to kill and protect her life. However, her greatest skill was theft. As she grew older, she interacted more with those around her - and eventually they gave her the name of Phoenix after she survived an incident that should have taken her life.
Nix, as she is most often called, aspires to one day visit the world below and live a life far more grander than the streets. And so she devised a plan, honed her skills, and eventually she made the Seven Sins her target. For while she could not fight her way down to the lower worlds, perhaps she could buy her way there. The first time in and out of the Capitol was a success. The second time, Nix was not blessed with such luck. It was not long before her execution was set. However, machines are finicky things for just one crossed wire might mean the difference between disintegration and time travel.
It should be noted that people of the High City are a bit more skilled than those in the lower worlds. Phoenix, for example, as quicken healing abilities, agility that aids in scaling walls, and has the ability to withstand great falls as well as intense heat. But there are always limits - and while she is strong there are many in the High City far stronger than she is.

Exiled Prince
Jaxon Edward Hargreaves
aka Jaxon Rivers

The only child to the King Edward and Queen Isabel, Jaxon lived in luxury. As long as he stayed within the castle walls and attended his studies, he was able to do whatever he pleased. He grew fond of pulling pranks on the maids and watching the knights practicing in the courtyard. It was a simple life, and he never really knew just how well he had it.
Sadly, he was unaware of the plot against his family, a plot created by his uncle. Witness to his mother’s murder, all became worse when the evidence landed upon him. But the people who believed in the young prince did not want him dead – so instead he was branded and exiled from his home.
Left on his own, he eventually found refuge in the home of a farmer who seemed to not care about Jaxon’s past. And this is how the prince has lived – as a commoner left to live out his life slaving in the sun’s heat.
