If She Ever Leaves Me
I see you watch her from across the room
Dancing her home in your mind
Well, it takes more than whiskey to make that flower bloom
By the third drink you'll find out she's mine
I've loved her in secret
I've loved her out loud
The sky hasn't always been blue
It might last forever
Or it might not work out
If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you
She loves Wild Horses and Tumbling Dice
She don't have a single tattoo
She'll drink all the liquor and leave you the ice
That's too much cologne, she likes perfume
I've loved her in secret
I've loved her out loud
The sky hasn't always been blue
And it might last forever
Or it might not work out
If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you
If she ever leaves, it's gonna be for a woman with more time
Who's not afraid to let her dreams come true
If she ever gives her careful heart to somebody new
Well, it won't be for a cowboy like you
Hey, I've loved her in secret
I've loved her out loud
The sky hasn't always been blue
It might last forever
Or it might not work out
If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you
If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you

-The Highwomen
Hi everyone! First-time poster, long-time RPer here. I bought this album by The Highwomen a few months ago (if you're a fan of folk/Americana I highly recommend it!), but it was only today while listening to it on my way to work that a story started swirling around my head thanks to this song, and I'd love to be able to play it out with the right person. You should definitely check the song out if you want to get into the mood for this little story!
I won't get into too many details here, so please don't take this little prompt as an accurate indicator of my writing abilities. My typically post-length is several well thought out paragraphs. I'd ask that my partner be 18+ (preferably 21+), willing to write mature themes, and consider themselves to be at least on a "high casual" level when it comes to writing. I also tend to use realistic faceclaims and let things like personality/background come out through the writing itself. Anything beyond that, I think we can discuss!
Okay, onto this mini-prompt...
The story I'm thinking of doesn't exactly go along with the song itself, but the basic idea is there. I'm thinking a dive bar of sorts, somewhere down south. Maybe even in the 80s or 90s? My character is a bartender, well-known by everyone who frequents the place. She's attractive, tough, sharp-tongued and quick-witted, and of course gets hit on by the male patrons frequently. And, she can play along if it means getting some extra tips.
But, she isn't exactly into men.
Your character is a waitress at the bar and has been working there for about a year. She's sweet, a bit naive, gorgeous in that sort of 'girl next door' kind of way, and she's engaged to one of the town's most "eligible bachelors." Her family is wealthy, her fiance is wealthy, she's always had to be the 'good girl' in every situation.
See the picture I'm painting here?
Long story short, my character has had a bit of a thing for yours for quite awhile now, but of course has never acted on it and yours is about as oblivious to it as they come. Will anything happen between the two, or will it end up being nothing more than a one-sided crush?
Some ideas, as far as plotlines go, include:
- YC's fiance is secretly abusive/a cheater
- MC being 'exposed' eventually
- MC's "outing" facing some kind of repercussion (remember, it's a small southern town without much tolerance)
- YC and MC talking over drinks one night, things go a bit too far, develops into a sort of "secret" relationship
-Either that relationship survives and wins out, or YC calls it off and stays with her fiance
So many ways this could go and I'm excited to really build these characters with someone! Feel free to shoot me a message if you're interested!
