The Improbable Story of Calyx, a Steven Universe rpg

Alright, enough people showed interest to justify me making an OOC thread. First, some backstory:

Two years ago, the homeworld gems discovered the planet Calyx, a world rich in natural resources and inhabited by humanoid arthropods. Almost immediately afterward they began a colonization effort which quickly grew into a full-scale invasion. When the local inhabitants became aware of what was happening, several colonies came together in an effort to drive the invading gems off. Their resistance was doomed from the start however, as they had vastly inferior technology and only rudimentary weaponry, akin to what humans might have had during the bronze age. The resistance effort ended in the complete extermination of several major anthills and hives, as well as thousands of square miles worth of forest being torched from space. The gems now have complete control over the organized races on Calyx, and have a presence on almost every part of the planet. Only the deserts, oceans and the deepest parts of the forests truly remain free, and none of those locations have any sort of governing force who could organize another resistance. You are most likely either a gem who has been sent to help oversee the subjugation of the people of Calyx or one of the conquered bugs.

As a side note, when I say bugs, think this or something equally cartonish/cute since I want them to actually be possible to sympathize with.

@SiliconColt Yeah, there are a good number of things that could lead people to either conclusion. Like I said though, that level of ambiguity won't really be present in the rp. It's going to be fairly common knowledge among the people of Calyx that the gems are an invading force from another planet.

That's a good question, I guess I didn't make that too clear. I guess I really didn't want the gems' invasion to be much further along than it ever got in the actual show, as they apparently managed to establish what basically amounts to a spawning point on Earth. The biggest thing I intended to be different is that the gems have already successfully put down an organized resistance on Calyx, while in the show it's very ambiguous whether or not humans as a whole were ever aware of the gems.

Sure! My idea was for it to be dominated by a wide variety of races based on various arthropod species. Since this rp will run on fantasy world logic, some of them will be bipedal while some of them will be centaur-like, depending on how human-like I want that individual's behavior to be. The bug people will have an intelligence level and emotional spectrum similar to that of gems or humans, but they'll still be bug like in their behavior. I haven't decided 100% on what I want their technology level to be, but I know that it's going to vary depending of what species they are, and I don't intend for it to be more advanced than bronze age technology.

The planet itself will have an array of different biomes similar to those of Earth, but probably with much larger flora species, to fit in with the dominant species being bugs.

So I've been kicking around an idea for a roleplay that takes place in the Steven Universe... universe for a while now. Before anything else, I want to say that this rp will be completely separated from the events of the show, because the plot of the show proper isn't really rpable. Instead, I had a story in mind about pre-Steven Universe gems.

This rp, assuming it gets off the ground, will take place thousands of years before the events of the show on a planet called Calyx. In the rp's continuity Calyx is the most recent planet to have been assimilated into gem-controlled space, and is a planet inhabited by sapient bug-like creatures. Since this is based on a cute cartoon and I want you to be able to sympathize with the characters, when I say bug-like I definitely mean something akin to this this more so than something like The Fly or typical SciFi bugs. You will have the option of playing one of the occupying gems or one of the recently conquered bugs.

The plot is essentially a much more pessimistic version of the story of Rose Quartz and the Crystal gems' defense of Earth. The gems have pretty much already won a relatively easy victory over a species that, while powerful and intelligent in their own right, are infinitely behind the gems in terms of weaponry and technology, because they never needed it. Like on Earth, a small resistance movement has formed from within the invading gems, although this movement has no 'Rose Quartz' to speak of. It doesn't have an equally powerful, charismatic leader like her. However, this time around the race they're fighting to protect can and will actually back them up. Depending on their species the insectoid people can have any combination of have super strength, tough exoskeletons, flight, literal hive minds for flawless strategy, and many other abilities you could expect from an insect.

That's probably what I'm going to do, this one honestly looks beyond saving and I don't even know who all is still checking it. It's the weekend for me right now, so just give me a little time to think of an acceptable way to open a new roleplay thread.

Yo, I think I'm just gonna put up a new sign-up thread. This time I'll actually try to give you guys something to do from the get-go instead of what we did here. Maybe we can do side quests like this once everyone's character is actually well established.

A boss fight would have been okay, but as I said above it seemed like people wanted this to get over with and boss fights tend to be time consuming. A collaboration would be fine, as would just about anything. And by my count, Airthel, Angelo, the Warden, Mathias and Corriach were about to fight. Only Angelo and Airthel have done anything.

I mean, should kill the bandits off for you at this point? Only two of the five people who went to fight them have gotten to move, but I don't want to let this thing lag for too long and it's already been three days.
