Personality:E is very stoic, only ever seeming to grace people with a small smile or frown. E only ever seems to be really expressive when E is faking emotion in order to manipulate someone. E can be very cold, even to those E loves, and E has a tendency to push people away.

E loves mysteries, and basically putting anything in the shadows is a good way to get E excited. E loves scary things too, though E doesn't find most movies or books to be spooky. Indeed, it is hard to find anything that makes E even flinch. E is truly unfazed by even the great terrors E deals with now.

E has a sense of humor. E mostly makes sarcastic quips or jokes in a way they refer to as "irony". E will mostly just go along with whatever ridiculousness is going on. For instance, E once attended a dance for their school, and arrived in a poofy dress. Despite the dress revealing a good portion of their chest, the other students were still not quite sure if E was male or female. E then proceedes to only dance with girls, and in fact the date that E brought was a girl. 

E isn't all smoke and mirrors and irony, however. E has a few humanizing traits. For instance, E loves their father, and aspires to be like them. Beyond that, E deals with a lot of guilt due to their first foray into dealing with dolls and the destruction they caused. Also, E is fiercely protective of their doll, and, though not good at expressing emotion, tries to make sure their doll knows E cares.
Backstory: E's parents were both soldiers for the country, and in fact met on the battle field. They ended up fighting alongside pretty often, and finally decided, "fuck it, let's get married" when E's mom mounted a daring rescue when E's dad was taken prisoner by hostile forces. Earning a huge freaking medal and a handsome hubby, E's mom was damn pleased with life.

E's parents then decided to become guards, with E's father going into detective work and E's mother patrolling the streets, still wanting a little more action. 

E was born shortly before their parents' wedding. E's parents thought them a strange child, but loved them all the same. 

When E was ten, E's mother mysteriously disappeared during a patrol, along with her partner. E's father stayed strong for his child, and tried his best to find his wife. All investigations turned up nothing, however.

E took an interest in investigating it themselves, however. E decided to start learning from their father how to fight and investigate, and took to both with great skill. E's father also gave them their mother's pendant, a silver chain clasp with a red ruby within. E searched relentlessly, until finally E learned what happened.

E's search ended when the marionette wearing their mother's face beat them half to death, before allowing aother puppeteer to possess them. The experience of being made a marionette was agonizing and terrifying. E felt like their very sense of self was being  violated.

E was rescued by their doll a few days later, when some dollhunters tried to stop their wanton destruction. Their doll helped them escape the dolhunters, then literally beat the marionette out of them. Their puppeteer managed to escape, and still has some links to E.

When E returned to their father, beaten but alive, E explained all they had learned. E's father took it in stride, and promised to help E however they could.

E decided then and there that they would save their mom from the marionette that possessed her, or die trying.
Skills:
Detective: E is a trained detective, and is highly skilled at seeking out mysteries. If you cause trouble in their city, chances are E will find you.
Human Lie Detector: E can smell liars. Almost literally. E is very good at telling when someone's lying, and uses this skill to the extreme.
Hard to Read: It is hard to tell when E themself is lying. After all, even E's gender is ambiguous.
Sharpshooter: E is very good with a gun, though this skill won't be very useful until they get their hands on some nail-based weaponry. In the mean time, their pistol is quite good against dollhunters that want to take E's doll.
Ninja: E is both very sneaky and very fast, making them quite good at sneaking around undetected. This is useless against supernatural senses without a dustraction, however.
Pugils: What kind of rough-and-tough detective would E be if E could not go toe to toe with human foes? E is good with the knife E keeps on their person, and has a fighting style that consists of well timed blocks and counters mixed in with relentless flurries of punches, constantly moving to control the flow of battle. E's greatest martial accomplishment is taking on three gangsters at a time and winning, though almost dying in the attempt.
Acting: E is a VERY convincing liar,and comes up with their lies on the spot very easily.
Dauntless: E can be ridiculously stoic, staring down the barrel of a gun and smiling calmly.
Made of Iron: Related to the last one, E has an extreme pain tolerance due to their time as a marionette and their sheer willpower, and combat experience. E can take quite a beating, and has been known to shrug off a bullet wound on one occasion and keep fighting.

Weaknesses:
Possession: E is susceptible to Puppeteers, and could be made a marionette again at any moment. Only their doll can protect them from this.
Suicidal Overconfidence: E believes themselves to be invincible, even after almost dying so many times during their search for their mom. E has been shot once, stabbed twice, and beaten nearly to death during their search, and that was all before being possessed for a time. E doesn't back down, and their Doll will likely have their hands full with keeping them alive.
Just Human: E may be quite badass for a human, but E IS just human. Eren cannot take on Dolls and Marionettes like Dollhunters can. E just doesn't have the training. E took a bullet and kept fighting once. And almost DIED from lead poisoning. E took down three armed thugs armed only with their own fists and cunning, once. And their left wrist STILL makes a weird crackling noise when they shift it just right, because their arm was treated like a fleshy pinata during that fight. E is flesh and blood, and cannot directly take on dolls and marionettes like dollhunters can. E believes they can though, making them take risks that often land them in great trouble.
Reputation: People know about the young androgynous detective, and a few people remember seeing them rampage as a marionette. E has a mixed reputation, and some people may recognize them, even if they're in some disguise. This would by and large be a bad thing, as E always seemed to leave chaos in the wake of their investigations.
No Escape: The puppeteer that possessed E is always vaguely aware of their thoughts, and can exert minor control over Eren. Eren occasionally has minor urges or visions. Eren is secretly terrified that they might become a marionette again at any moment.
Near-sighted: "Jinkies, I can't see without my glasses."

Eren is so god damn blind without their glasses.

Mathew's least terrifying shape. Following are a few examples of combat shapes he might take.

Personality: Despite being a shapeshifting abomination of bones and flesh, Mathew is actually a very nice and polite entity. Mathew is always nice and courteous, and is polite without being cold. Mathew likes to help people.

Mathew enjoys cooking and baking, and is quite good at it. He cooks all of his dollmaster's meals, and is constantly trying to make sure they are okay and healthy. Mathew is always there to lend aid.

Mathew is very warm and friendly, especially to his dollmaster. He will chide his master for misdeeds, and tries to steer them on the right path. He is very protective of them, not just their life but also their over all well being.

Mathew is more or less a horrifying demonic looking perfect mom.

Also, Mathew likes animals because they aren't scared of him. He usually can be seen befriending a dog or cat.

Mathew rarely gets angry. If he does, then run.

No, literally, run. As peace loving as he is, Mathew is just as horrifying and monstrous as he looks if you manage to anger him. He will literally eat you.

RUN.

Abilities: Mathew is capable of manipulating flesh, especially his own. He transforms constantly, his flesh making squishing and cracking noises as it moves. He is always shifting, though he at least does have full control of his body. He can incorporate outside flesh into his own body to make himself stronger, though he hates to do so. He loses flesh when hurt, causing him to need to replace it. He cannot be killed until all of his extra flesh is destroyed.

His extra flesh can be unmanifested to reduce his weight and size, and he usually does so so that he doesn't take up an entire city block and crack the ground he walks on.

He can theoretically have multiple bodies, except for the fact that he has to keep all his flesh in contact with each other at all times. Anything separated from the main mass needs to be reconsumed before it rots away. Beyond that, it is hard to control more than one body with any motor skills, so he usually just keeps a single central mass. More than that tends to be too weak and hard to control and fragile to be any real effect.
Weapons: Bony claws and whatnot. He can manipulate the flesh of others, though only a bit, and only if he's already touching it. He uses that in order toe at his foes.

Fighting Style: Mathew usually uses his great reach and power to disable foes without harming them. He can manipulate flesh so as to momentarily engorge the brain and leave an opponent unconscious but alive. 

When he's pissed or otherwise going for the kill, Mathew will strike from many angles with great force.

Mathew tends to switch between three fighting styles.

Turret: Mathew keeps the majority of his mass anchored, and lashes out with huge amounts of combat tentacles. He forms shields of bone around his main mass to defend himself. This form is very powerful offensively and defensively, especially against enemies without nail-based weapons. His reach is so great that he can often pull enemies back into range if they try to escape, and though his main body is immobile, his tentacles lash with extreme speed and power.

Blob Man: Mathew adds flesh to a compact, human sized form and uses it to lash out with tentacles. He compensates for his slow speed by constantly shifting. He could dodge a launched nail by opening his flesh and letting it go through, for instance. This is his best form against Doll Hunters, though it is still not very effective as they are usually too damn fast and their nails too damn lethal for him to properly dodge and attack.

Behemoth: Mathew doesn't bother with tentacles in this style, usually. Mathew's most varied way of fighting. Mathew becomes a large, usually quadrupedal, charging monstrosity. Mathew charges at opponents, slamming them around with huge and ultra dense limbs.

Misc: Mathew is slow, and his only real way of dealing with that is increasing his reach and size. While he is great at defeating Marionettes by overpowering then, Dollhunters tend to be very quick and can seriously wound him. Without aid from his dollmaster, most skilled dollhunters could easily kill him.

His shapeshifting DOES grant him some versatility, though. For one, he is unpredictable. He can become quite small or large, and can extend an individual limb very quickly.
