I suggest right now we all make commoners, mostly young folk, you know, at the start of their adventure.
You bring a sacrifice during the feast and one of the other players has his or her god aproach your character if he deems the sacrifice and character fitting to his style.
Then you make that character a champion and grant it some favor. The player who plays the champion then makes a more complete character.
An example:
A veteran soldier decides to retire as a farmer so he can take care of his newborn sons. So he sacrifices his shield and spear to the gods.

In response he receives a vision of a Lantern Archon. With a hollow voice it proclaims that Adarn has chosen him, because he finds the man a fitting champion. He asks the man to take a vow that he will put the needs of kin and his town before his own.

The man takes the vow and Adarn blesses him with supernatural strength and endurance, as well as the ability to shed a bright light that frightens creatures with evil intent. (The key to giving powers is not 'power' but 'flavor')

The player who plays the veteran soldier makes a character sheet for his character as the champion of Adarn and makes sure his character art has an epic beard.
Alternatively you can make a champion character who has already been made a champion, in that case you PM the player who controls the god you want and discuss what the therms of service are.

I'm currently thinking about a looming threat to the village, one the gods of course are aware off but the villagers aren't. It'll strike when most players have a champion.

IC post is up!
There is about to be a large ritual feast where villagers bring sacrifices. If they bring a worthy sacrifice, a god might grant them their favor.

I made two commoners for the introduction. Lyah and Misha. I suggest you do the same, other players can turn them into champions.

Reminder, you can't play a champion of your own god.

It was a warm and pleasant evening. Red lines pierced the clouds as the sun settled slowly.
Lyah stared up at the stars that lit up the clear night sky above her. She looked to the boy walking next to her, struggling with the goat he was pulling along.
"Do you think he knows?" She spoke softly.
Misha looked at his childhood friend with a puzzled expression. "That he's the sacrifice? Doubt it. Goats are stupid... What did you bring anyways?"
Silently she fished a neatly folded piece of cloth from her bag.
"Open it up! I want to see."
"It's the cloth."
"...That's... That's not really a good sacrifice is it?"
"It used to belong to my mother, and it's the only thing I still have of her."
Misha looked at the cloth with skeptical amusement. "Oh... And you think the gods will like that?"
"They'll understand it."

The two walked in silence along the dusty road. In the distance they could see the temple at the edge of the village.
There was a large fire, and they could hear the festivities from far away.

"Are you nervous?"
"A little"
"Do you know who you'll sacrifice to?"
"The gods choose their champions among us, if the gift is fitting."

These are some very interesting entities. It's fun to imagine what kind of civilization made a pantheon like this.
I'm going to start on a opening IC post. Just got to find the right tone to set....

Come one and all.
We'll tell a tale like the mythos of old.
Step in the shoes of the old gods like Thor, Dionysus and Anubis.

Create a world of myth and magic, then create heroes to overcome the impossible challenges set by the gods.

It is the year 0. There is a small town at the shores of the sea, it's inhabitants call it Travels End. After many generations of nomadic tradition they settle down to farm and fish. The future holds many things in store for them: jealous rival cities, vicious sea monsters, festivities and tragedies. But most importantly: Religion.
These people are about to discover their gods. Will these divine beings use their might to help the town grow into a bustling trade city? Or will they torment the humans for their own amusement? Perhaps both.

In this game you'll make 1 god, up to 3 heroes (of other gods) and any number of commoners.

God characters are bound by no rules other than the rule of cool. You choose no powers or skills, you can do whatever seems fitting.
Gods appear as they will and can bend the rules of reality to their whims.
You'll choose a domain like fire, death, war or weather. (anything that follows "The god(dess) of" and isn't too similar to an already present god.

Heroes are mortal champions with superhuman powers. Often they are the bastard children of gods, sometimes they are given their powers by a god as a reward.
These characters might fight monsters, save a town from rampaging bandits, or maybe rage against the gods.
Examples are Hercules, Skjöldr, (first king of Denmark), Moses, etc.

Commoners are just that, normal humans, they have no powers you and I can't have. If you choose not to give them a name they are public domain and any player may control them. You can write a character sheet, but depending on how relevant this person might be it's not mandatory.
