@akjeI doubt anyone has real bad blood about the post, or at least I don't. What is fixed is fixed.

Kelvin has little to say about anyone but Suki

Well it's changed conciderably now.
Tell me what you think.
So I reread some of your earlyer posts. I admit my 'god of war' style of rp stands in stark contrast with, for example, Vis's 'Darksouls' aproach.

Keep in mind that was my first combat post in this campaign, and I draw from other games on this site where this would be considered meek. (like one where I slung a bike at someone at 80mph. He got up and retaliated.)

My other source is various versions of dnd and pathfinder. In which I have done similar things often.

I just saw how, in dnd terms, Furnace had a significant advantage.
Then I came across that song, never seen the series but I think I got the general feel of it right?

I'm going to alter things to be a lot less favorable to the fearless little gnome. Gimme a little while.

PS: on relationships: That's still on the long list of things Furnace doesn't know about yet. Like fear, death, the sun and the moon.

Also, I'm waiting to post until I can get final confirmation on the Ettin's status. At that point I will attempt to grab Furnace and piggyback carry him out.

Right. Before I start hacking away at my post (lots of work on phone) I need to know what needs to go.

Kronshi did you read my explanation on page 48? What kind of challenge is the Ettin suposed to be?

I understand I may have misinterpretted the general feel of the setting. I haven't read any good arguments against the post, so I have trouble seeing your problem here.

PS: Don't threaten to kill characters like that. It's unnescesaried and unbecomming.
good news. theres free wifi in our appartment!

I see you've seen the post. I can alter it. I could argue against all these points. But the easyest 'fix' is to simpy have him get up and continue.

If he's really tough enough to withstand 4 bombs, then he can tank some minor wounds on his feet and a single stab to the gut with a dagger.

I never claimed lethality.
welp. Time to leave for paris.
If my absence becomes a problem have furnace fall asleep from spending too much energy or whatever.

I'll find out if he's dragged along or left in the rubble when I get back next week.
Reminder, my vacation begins tomorrow, and unless our destination has free wifi, chances are very slim I'll be online.
I'll try and make sure this doesn't interfere with the plot.
I'll be active tonight, and maybe I'll have a shot at posting early in the morning. After that I'll probably be incommunicado.
Obvious. The right word was obvious.
"Power." Martin answered immediately.
"You. Want. Power. And, no you aren't."
He all too casually pointed at her claws.
"Dangerous? Definitely. But in the technical sense of the word: Un. Armed.
And, -since you can kill me faster than I can draw my contingency plan- so am I. So let's keep it civil right?
And you're not hungry either, the older you get the more discipline you have. Busting out at a dinner party would be quite undisciplined. A rookie move. Embarrassing. So the only logical conclusion would be that you are making an attempt at intimidation.
Pointless of course, clearly I am aware of what vampires are and what you can do to me, informing me will not change anything.
But what it does do, quite importantly, is implying that you feel threatened by me. Oh what would the elders gossip if they heard.
My advice my lady? Don't bark. Don't bite. Listen up because my offer is one of a lifetime, mine. If I die it's all off the table.
And you lot will have a single human snack rather than a shot at the ultimate comfort, as well as a gold mine of information."

Martin spoke fast, and though his words were condescending his voice was sweet and polite.

"For example, a free tidbit of information, a nugget of sorts. I suspect I can probably disprove ehm.. what was his name.. Gabriel! I could potentially disprove Gabriel's claim to 'first vampire'. And the interesting part is that I'd need specifically your help for that."
@akjeWell, the way I like to look at it is this: Alula's moon death beam of orphanage devastation only blinded the ettin, but your midget with a sword he can only swing around haphazardly gutted him like a pig.

There's also the matter of you landed a series of successive hits and controlling the ettin and its actions. I'm by no means criticizing you, it's just that even if the ettin was only a mini-boss, it might need GM approval for you to go Leeroy Jenkins and downright slaughter it.

Yeah, I thought about all of those.
I don't know about the moon beam: I expected it to do more than blind the Ettin.

The sword gutting him: well yeah, If you are lying flat on your back and the heated sword falls point down it'll go in. I made a point out of Furnace not using swordplay but instead relying on the weight of the blade. Note that I wouldn't be surprised if the sword is ruined after this.

NPC control: I've been hesitant to do that, but I've seen other players control NPC's as well, including in combat, so I guess I'd use it because the combat would take days otherwise and I was hoping we could wrap this scene up before I have to leave for vacation.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to make a point here, I'm just writing down my thought process. Here's why I think Furnace had an incredible advantage in this scene.

Furnace Vs. Ettin breakdown:
Size: Both are extremes on each side of the spectrum, while Furnace is harder to hit the Ettin is easy to hit, and while Furnace doesn't hit with much physical force, the Ettin could probably punt him the distance of a soccer field.

Area: the area they are fighting is rapidly heating up and scattered with 'land mines' of molten metal.
Thus, difficult terrain and ongoing damage to everyone not used to high temperatures and serious pain for everyone not nimble or perceptive enough to avoid liquid metal.

Weapons: The Ettin wields a flail, which, having a chain, is very susceptible to the constant sundering going on.
Furnace grabs his sword. Though it would lose some metal with every swing (like a melting Popsicle) it is the most viable weapon in this situation. Even if it'll be ruined after.

So in conclusion: While the Ettin has better combat abilities and chances than Furnace. Furnace was in his element here (litteraly).
By deciding to charge into the fire effect on a dirt road littered with burning corpses and rubble the Ettin condemned itself to:
- ongoing fire damage
- high chances of stepping on something painful, resulting in falling and more damage.
- having all his gear burn/melt

Thats a bunch of penalties to hit and to AC.

Dear lord.

Um, just checking, did GM give you permission to like... absolutely slaughter the Ettin? Like, in a PM? Because that was nuts.

And yeah, you told us you'd be gone.

Well the DM didn't post for the Ettin and in the OOC people keep confirming the main threat is the horde. So I assumed the Ettin is some kind of mini boss? I mean, he's not the leader of this raid, and the leader of this raid is below 'pawn'. So I'd feel no qualms drawing the curtains on him soon if it serves an awesome scene.

Either way since this is likely my last post for a little while I wanted to write something big. If slaying outright is too much the DM can choose to have him survive it, Idunno.

I usually don't like planning out posts completely beforehand. I'd rather just go with 'rule of cool' and try things. See what sticks.
If the Ettin was supposed to be stronger I'll see it when @Kronshi posts.
Giant Slayer! Ha haa

Oh boy, after all this carnage I can't wait till Furnace discovers the concept of death.

BTW: I did mention I'll be in Paris next week right?
