"Regardless..... you came in an awful timing," Niks replied, a gob of green goo started to form in his free hand. "It's easy to get lost at this time of the day."
The skeleton aimed to hit the lost traveler in the head as she showed her back to him before noticing that a thick fog was starting to settle around them and the town itself. Before Niks could send the hex that hopefully would prevent the woman from getting away, she had already disappeared from his sight as the fog swallowed her. He let out a silent curse but didn't do anything to chase as who knows what the fog hid.

Eh, deliberating between a wall of flesh/ghost or a fog that loop directions.
PS: yeah, decided for a fog that would make Lin end up in the same area she left (Niks' hideout)

IRL I would accompany this with uncomfortably long eye contact to drive the point home.
You could always put up a pic of you staring at the webcam (read: the other guy in a webcall) to substitute that.

He can get as lucky as need be to prevent her from running for the sake of the plot as long as what occurs doesn't harm her too badly otherwise.
Can't do this one, a symptom that would prevent her from running would also hurt her otherwise.
EDIT: Or he has a trap set up for that purpose.
Trap's not something he dabbled in himself though. :(
