However, I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty to change the number of them who reside in the city

Here is how I did it: using bullshit approximating math
About 1/6 of the students do not live in academy city and arrive from other islands or places daily by aquatic or aerial means, 129.000

Of the ones that live in the city, there are 217 that live in luxurious big houses
around 100.000 live alone
162.300 share flat with other student
108.300 share flat with other two students
162.300 share flat with other three students

total 533.000 students living in Academy city and 237.825 apartments with students living in them. It is no wonder why being a landlord or landlady is so common and profitable in this city.

A coast city of a population of 750.000 with moderate weather? I can't think of one better example than Palermo, (although I've just seen that Palermo is 630.000, but anyway, I can fit 100.000 people there) so it can be used to base our city

If you follow/read TAMnI/TAKnR, the students number is so big yet the city able to hold that number of student.I agree with you, the Enrollment to the Academia City itself is hard, and the curriculum there is totally on other level. A University level material in outside already taught in Academia City's Middle SchoolAnd I live in one of the most populated City in the earth (Jakarta at 2010 there about 9,608 million people live here)So, 500.000 student lived at that Academia City is quite believable for me. Speaking of which; There's about 831.300 people at that Island (there's a City and a Town in that island). 93% of the Population at Academia City while 7% at Верный (which surprisingly able to supply the Island with the food stocks every year and some of the surplus sold to other Island in Caelifer). Within that 93% population in Academia City, 82% of them students.

thanks for helping, with you having fixed the population I can think of a better layout for the city and academy.

Although, such humongous ratio of student to civilian is overwhelming

estimating the amount of students the largest studying center of the world is not being an easy task. I said 500.000 previously, but I quickly scrapped that because it is just too big. So after some research I've came to some conclusions:
A big university has around 80.000 students and 10.000 staff members (6000 of them teachers)
A normal university has 20.000 students and 2500 staff members (1500 teachers)
Average high school is 2000 students with a ratio of 20:1 students per teacher (so around 100 teachers and 50 staff members)

So

Keeping in mind we are talking about the most prestigious and advanced place for education and research in the world, I suppose we can assume the Academy is a big one, however, for simplicity, I don't want to go overboard and I'm going to put the "normal" number of 20.000 university students and 2.500 staff members that live in the city. With 200 hectare that include the following:

-A main building that is the neurological center of the academy, located in the center
-The following faculties: Engineering, Medicine, Liberal studies, Law, Economy and Management, Sciences, Mastery and Magic. All of them are big buildings with a courtyard and several pavilions for specific studies
-The library, a building that stretches underground and contains all the information existing. Technology of this place is on par or even superior to Pitover

Then we get High school

While the university of the academy is a institution that receive students from all over the world, the high school part is mostly for residents of Caelifer and while it is still part of the Academy it is a separate entity. Entrance is not easy and either requires a great effort in an entrance exam or paying great sums. Because graduation here guarantees entrance into the university, it is common to see people coming from other continents, resulting in a wide variety of races and species living together, further increased with the implementation of the "Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill".

The High school used to be actually two separated high schools, one for boys and one for girls, of 1500 students each, but with modern reconstruction it was added a building that connects them and combined it into a single gigantic building that host over 4000 students with 200 teachers. Because of the isolation of the academy with other schools, different teams for a same sport are created and rivalry is encouraged.

Antagonist doesn't mean just villain. It also refers to additional characters of great relevance but with the story not revolving around them like protagonists. As masaki said, this includes allies, sidekicks, anti-heroes and that stuff.

Gemstones are like ESPers but naturally born with. They are not necessarily more powerful than technologically given ESPers. ESPers are thoughfully categorized by Grey, but if you want to get an idea I like to think of them like the powers of the stands in JoJo, abilities that vary in power but that with some thinking results in a useful and crafty tool
